I'm looking to upgrade my two main ground saws ( 034, and 044 ). i've noticed that the newish range of stihl saws have different coloured rear handles. so far i've seen the usual white, also, black, and orange anyone know what, if anything, this signifies ?? thanks, dave

  9. working in newark the other day. just near a wood recycling plant. filled my pikey bus ( ldv 400) to the rafters with horse chestnut chip. empty of chip, but with tools and men it weighs 2400kg over the bridge it was 5700kg and, yes, it was on the bump stops but it was only 300yds on a private road honest
  10. LDV cheep n cheerful
  11. mixed hardwood £75 per cube, £120 2 cube tipper load. mixed soft wood £60 per cube, and £100 for the tipper load selling nets, front of house £3-50 ea all arb waste loads round us doing it, even got lads cutting railway sleepers up n selling a half full bulk bag for £20 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. when i set up i bought a 30cc ryobi off fleabay. came with a hedge cutter head. £70 plus a tenner postage. bought two extension poles from screwfix for £12 each. got a polesaw head off fleabay for £30 still got it as a spare, with strimmer and brushcutter heads. as said above, just don't expect stihl quality. and buy a decent set ASAP
  13. i had something similar, call from a lady, could i come and look at a large yew which had dropped some limbs, one of which had taken off a large Syc limb, which had flattened a section of hedge. arranged a suitable time to view, ( the place was about 30 mins drive from mine) arrived to find, gated entrance, video entry system, a good half mile, lime tree lined, manicured lawned, drive up to one of the largest houses i've worked around, must have been 10 bedrooms plus. his n hers range rover sports, private matching plates. nice, i thought.. the gent showed me the job, a good days work, about half a truck of chip, fill her up with logs. the gentleman 'explained' to me that they didn't have much money, so if i wanted to be 'their' tree surgeon, i'd have to do all work for timber only. he'd heard that yew wood was very expensive, so it'd easily cover my costs !!!!!!!!!! i 'explained' as nicely as i could, that i couldn't possibly take advantage of his good nature. he could keep the highly valuable yew logs, and the sycamore, and the privet chip, and i'd take the lesser cash.... told me they couldn't possibly pay, and someone with a saw in the local village would probably do it. to cut a long story short, i was called back two months later, to do the job i'd quoted, plus, clean up the tares the other 'chap with a saw' had done.
  14. hi, are we talking wood chip, or sawdust ???? 16mm sounds rather large for sawdust
  15. hi, i've just been given a shaft off a stihl combi unit (used to have a chainsaw head) i'd like to fit a strimmer head to it. anyone know what models will fit i.e. fs 80, fs 55 ??????????? failing that, anyone got a head to fit a fs400 thanks dave
  16. sorry lads, i'm one of your "every tom dick and harry's" we used to give all our arb waste away, use it ourselves, and generally considered it a nuisance, until 18 months ago. we had a yard full of seasoned stuff to clear, and got good money for it. sold around 50 loads. we now hand process the stuff as it comes in, and also differenciate between species, i.e. ash can be sold quicker. as the money comes in from the sale of the logs, that'll be put to one side for machinery. first on the list is a telehandler/bobcat as we store the logs in 1.2mtr3 onion crates. we're just building a powered log splitter and small conveyor, to fill the crates next on the list will be a tractor and processor. to me investing 40k into a seriously labour intensive business is the wrong way to go about it. that money could buy a business which is less likely to break your body...lol but as everyone on here says. i really do hope it works out. with the ammount of log burners my mates fitting atm there'll be customers a plenty
  17. doing lots of raised sleeper beds atm. got the full set of ryobi one+ stuff, and am very happy with the quality of the stuff. only problem is, their impact driver getsw through a battery every half a dozen screws, ok so they're the 9" long things !!!!! can anyone recomend a 240v one. just ordered a box of 6" 5mm drill bits to get through one sleeper, we'll see how this goes thanks dave dn22 gardening
  18. got a really good rapor with a stihl dealer (?) about 20 miles from me, by-passing two nearer ones. really good. 200t brake went, sorted within 2 hours, 034 lost an exhaust bolt, scavenged one off an old saw for me. a few weeks ago, the drive belt went on my honda isy, took it in and the lad i usually deal with, mark, was serving, got his boss "hello mate what can we do for you today" "got an honda isy, have you got a drive belt in ?, and while you've got it, you may as well give it a sharpen, i'm not in a rush for it." i ask well, he went off his head at me, "you should have brought this in weeks ago !!!!" shouting, and throwing his arms about " pardon ??? how could i the belt only broke yesterday" "well....we've got 100+ mowers to service, you can't come in here expecting it done ASAP, it'll be weeks" still shouting, still throwing his arms about "told you earlier mate, i'm not in a rush" "well what do you expect me to do" now stomping about the shop "F**k all buddy" i said over my shoulder as i walked out the door i've since had three calls off them asking why i aint been in. told em the first time what had gone off and was told he'd had a bad day....so what !! i get loads get most of my stuff online now chains direct on ebay are very good sorted the mower in about an hour, gave it a service at the same time customer service !!!!! some people need lessons lol
