  1. you lot must have the LDV equivilant of a GHIA.. mine's got a symbol for the lights, and one for the handbrake ( on all the time ) and thats it lol
  2. few years ago caught a local toe rag in the garage. he'd got all my saws n gear by the side door ready to have away when i appeared round the corner. shocked aint the word. gave him a proper good hiding ( i was young and foolish then ). when the police came one of the officers took me to one side and 'coached' me..... he had a knife in his hand didn't he?? no said i oh yes he did said the copper. right oh says i not a word was said. few months later saw the same scroat in town on a friday night. all smirks n telling his mates how he'd got away wi a slap on the wrist.. shame.. i heard he got jumped on the way home.... someone stamped on his right hand.. did loads of damage. theres only one way to beat these scum.. make em scared to even look at someone elses stuff only my opinion
  3. estate agents, love em so far had two emergancy jobs. and half a dozen "garden blitz's" got ot look at a job friday, garden cleaence, new fence, and conny hedge trim. best thing is, once they know you do a good job, they won't quibble about price, as they pass it directly onto the landlord
  4. bad news mate, hope he gets it back
  5. also get a bit of work from local estate agents. get an A4 sheet made up, saying what you can do n drop it into em. if you go out n look, do a good job at reasonable rates, there's work out there.
  6. as for waste, get out n ask. i've got three free tips for the chip now. local farmers are good, also when you've got a load on, call in at any garden centers you pass, theres one near me buys the odd load at £20-00 per load !!! ace. gardening waste gets bagged up n taken to the local tip, or burned.
  7. get 75% of my work from three mags, all bi-monthly glossy things. Retford Life Gainsborough Life Bawtry Today brilliant, when i started i did the lot, local rags, free papers etc, the three above, out did the rest by miles the other 25% is word of mouth. although i'd love to be 100% trees, i don't yet have the client base, so i also advertise gardening services, and charge £15-00 p/mh for the pleasure. got 4 contracts now that even at this time of year give me £200 p/w i'm also lucky with the groundie i've got. he's a good mechanic, welder, grafter etc. tried the £30 a day men and they're a false economy, use them occasionally if theres any donkey work, dragging strimming etc, other than that, get a good helper, look after him n he'll appreciate it. one other thing. spend one night/ rainy day on your paper work. you'll be surprised how quick it'll mount up
  8. didn't have many logs, as its my first year solo, but i've sold out. done about 20 loads on the truck, and 150 ish nets. all local all word of mouth can't wait for next year, got about 50 ton already
  9. just done a row of 100, 30/40' ers. the farmer wanted to be able to trim both sides and top with his flail. so took em all down to 10'. took us three days and a new set of chipper blades lol
  10. hi simon, i only started in sept on my own and i'm kicking myself for not doing it years ago. the monies good, the hours better. get it done, you'll love it
  11. saw an ad in the local shop yesterday bulk bags logs, free delivery, £25-00 bag. seen the kid driving round in an old recovery transit. pikey??? thought i might buy a couple in, see what they're like.
  12. working for a firm earlier in the year, digging out in Southend, on the last night of the job, took our 7.5 tonner c/w tracked jensen & trailer, all the tools. the 12 year old policeman who came out when the theft was discovered the following morning told us it'd probably be on a boat already.
  13. going to see one of the local farmers tomorrow, he has a sideline in aggregates. wondering how much he'd want to rent one of his aggregate bays, and how much he'd want to load the trucks. also thought about ringing the other tree guys near us to see if they'd like to use the tip. thought about asking for £10-00 each tip, this'd help cover the rent, hopefully leaving me with a free tip.
  14. cheers buddy, they're sending me an info pack through the email, so i'll keep the forum updated.
  15. put a thread on here a few weeks ago about a kid in our area doing trees for nowt, just wanted the firewood. as most of the posts above say "grin and bear it" crap isnt it
  16. got a phone call from a firm today offering to buy my chip. offered me £8 a ton if he could collect in 27ton loads. anyone else had this
  17. makes feel ashamed, i just chuck em in a heap under a tin shed.
  18. thanks buddy, sound idea. only trouble is my groundie's moaning his feet are cold. he has to take his socks off when he gets past ten
  19. loaded level bags, well heaped barrows
  20. barrows about yea big, and the bags a lot bigger
  21. hi guys, i don't doubt its been on here before ( and i have searched) roughley how many barrow loads are there in a bulk bag ? thanks in advance. dave
  22. don't know if this has been covered before but.. just been looking on fleabay at saws. one ad caught my eye. good looking stihl 300 series, c/w dealer sticker, etc obviously been looked after and i'm considering bidding.... two saws later and one looked very sus. does anyone think we'd get anywhere trying to persuade ebay not to list equipment like ours unless the serial number was given. this would put alot of thieving scum off i'm sure
