  3. hi guys, anyone know whereabouts on the interweb there is a chart showing which stihl model is the equivelent husky model ? hope that makes sense been offered a 281XP ? whats the stihl model of the same size n capacity. also, whats the XP mean
  4. pruned 18 fruit trees for an old dear today, repeat customer, gave her the bill, she gave me the cheque, and a tenner, with the comment, " you've done a beautiful job" thats what keeps me in this job
  5. not many takers on here. no one fancy earning £17.5k a year
  6. spent 20 mins today doing a mint job on 15" stihl 341. sorting the log pile out 3rd log i was halving and could feel the dreaded rattle of a buried nail :cursing: makes me think a little 12v one might be handy done it once on site after sharpening the 880, now that is soul destroying
  7. never thought of using paypal. use it at the minute for the log sheds and it can work out quite expensive, but saying that, it's instant, still takes up to 4 days to transfer into your bank account though
  8. jet wash off, then as stated above, the three big stain companies all do an anti slip stain preferably get an anti fungal one
  9. thats the daddy redmoose. looks a beauty rupe. do you mind me asking what it cost
  10. with a bit of luck he'll do what my old gaffer did with me the more experience i got, the more money i got, the more jobs i could do without him having to check, the more money he earnt the more money he earnt, the more money, better gear, more holidays, etc i got. you've just not got to let him take the piss. usin your own gear is out of order..fuel, chains, wear n tear on the saw should all be stood by the firm my groundie at the minute is a good 'un, he even gets his dinner bought ffs as said earlier..head down, take it all in n if he dicks you about too much.....walk
  11. theres one on ebay at the minute Item number: 190367199346 looks quite good.. good video might get one like this made what do you guys think
  12. i'm in the same position, nearly my groundie, (also called dean) gets c/i/hand. (cough cough) obviously can't go on. theres a guy in our pub runs a wages company, had a chat with him n for £5-00 per pay period he'll sort everything out, i.e PAYE, both sets of NI contributions etc. obviously if i paid him monthly it'd be better, but he'll not wear that..lol
  13. thanks all would prefer an off the shelf job. you've got a bit of a guarentee
  14. stand alone please. its pure arb waste
  15. hi all right.. i'll guarentee this subjects been covered before, but, wtf, lets go over it again i'm a sole trader, just me n a groundie. sold out of logs this year, a few tipper loads, but mainly nets so for next year i'm going to get as many logs as poss. the question is, what type / make / style / power source of log splitter do you proper firewood guys recomend at the moment, i'm cutting my logs into 8/10" sections. storing them in the yard, and splitting on quiet days... loose stacking on pallets under cover currently got about 3 ton for next year, but expect alot more. sold about 20 ton this year got a mate who can get me some wooden potato boxes to put the logs in. space is tight, so i'm thinking maybee get a skid steer in summer ( when the cash starts coming in again), to lift the tatty boxes this would have the option to then purchase further implements i.e. stump grinder, log splitter, forks, bucket. etc used to work for a firm in melton who had a big self made diesel towable job. 2 man operation, but fairly fast cycle on the ram. in a day 2 of us did a mountain of logs. had a look at one of the electric upright jobs that are on ebay. u need two hands on the levers to activate the ram. looks fairly slow...any one used one what i'm thinking is, do i get the £400 leccy job off ebay for now, and upgrade to a bigger, better one later, do i chuck a grand at my fitter mate and get him to make me a diesel one, or do i just go straight to the big boys on here n buy one off the shelf. cash isn't exactly flowing at the moment but its there for the right tool. any advise would be greatfullly recieved coz my heads spinning, what with this, and trying to decide what to do about vehicles this year

  20. i know its been a few years but can't remember doing ariel rescue on my cs31 :confused1:
  21. had loads since a couple of weeks before christmas. the best one was some plank selling space on an anti drink driving desk planner. when i told him i wasn't interested he said 'arn't you interested in drink driving' so i replied ' yeah i do it every friday night'... ffs he went off his head. i just laughed down the phone. my dads got a good way of dealing with cold calling, he says' wait a minute, n puts the phone on the table....n leaves it there.
  22. sky hooks.... can't wait
  23. if he checked it when u delivered it and everything was ok, then f$$k him James. he's probably dropped it or something. if its a new product it should be warrentied ?? give him the reciept and tell him to take it back
  24. IMO diversification is way forward. when i started on my own i took owt that was going, with the intension of 'cherry piking' the best work as i got established. i considered gardening work to be 'second best' how wrong at the end of Feb i'll be setting on my first full time gardener. if the contracts keep coming in it won't be long before theres another one. i'll be honest, thats all thats kept me going for the past three weeks. logs are a product we can all exploit. chippings also are an under used resourse. i don't think it'll be long till someone comes up with a profitable use for these. i think the future's looking good, most of us on here aren't frightened of work. there'll always be workers needed
  25. didn't know lowering kits needed testing
