  1. don't mean to hijack the thread, but whats we've been using Glypho on some graveled areas, and obviously the weeds come back after two or three weeks whats good poison to kill everything PERMANENTLY !!!!!! thanks, dave
  2. i worked for a builders merchant a few years ago, doing a bit of subby driving. i went to the local quarry where they bagged up for us. i picked 6 very full "ton" bags. went over the weighbridge, to find the six bags weighed all of 4.7 tons !!!!!!! next time you're in a builders merchant, try and get them to confirm the weight of one of their bags......its a good laugh watching them squirm... i get tired of people asking why i sell my logs in wooden crates. such and such down the road says he'll do a ton for so much... but such and such down the road aint got a weighbridge.... so how do you know you're getting a ton ???? i sell mine in 1.2 mtr cube crates, so i advertise them as being a cube. that way, i know no ones getting robbed. i even advise people to come and choose their own crate, so they know what size, and species of log they're getting.
  3. we had one last christmas from the 'police' doing a drink drive awareness booklet (why a tree surgeon would want to advertise in it is anyones guess ??) i said to the guy that i wasn't bothered thanks.. "WHAT !!!! not bothered about stopping drink driving !!!!!" and gave me a 10 minute speech about the dangers of drink driving. peed off with him going on at me i said "why wold i stop drink driving, how am i supposed to get home from the pub on a saturday night"...( i only live 100ft from our village local) he went off his head :) ranting down the phone at me...if i didn't advertise he was passing my details onto the local force to get me !!!!! p.s. for those on here with NO sense of humour.. i DO NOT drink and drive.....lol
  4. just a quick update, firstly, there was NO swearing in the post..i'd edited it myself with the usual "££$$%&* thanks anyway secondly, had a site meeting today with the chap who was giving it all the big arm waving, "we'll be doing this, that, and what ever". when i showed him the quote from civic trees ( £9k+ per tree) he nearly had a coronary...."i'm sure i saw some on the internet at £500 each" was all he could splutter. i think he was expecting me to throw a couple at a time on the back of the pikey bus, and me and my mate to dig em in with spades !!!!!! i'll not hold my breath for the order..although i did ofer to find more reasonably priced trees......lol they have to be Europeae to match the others in the row
  5. cheers peter, i'll try em tomorrow looks good on the website
  6. hi all, did a job for a firm last July, removed three large TPO'd limes out of a row to allow access. Part of the planning approval was that the three limes are replaced, along with two others that had been removed for safety reasons years earlier. got a call from the project manager today "Hello Dave, as you did such a good job of removing the limes, can you give us a quote for replacing them." Not a problem......... "We require 5 No. tilia Europaea" Again not a problem....... "At least 15mts high" FFS that made me spit my coffee out. we've done 10mtr ones before, and they were a nightmare. anyone know of any suppliers who MIGHT have anything that big, AND the equipment to shift em.... Thanks, Dave
  7. you're all forgetting about 'resale value' if you look on fleabay s/hand stihls fetch damn near new prices !!! looking at buying a large saw now, but due to other commitments i'm skint !!! a 4 year old 880 is for sale at £800 !!! 441's are fetchin upto £400
  8. bite the bullet and buy a cube. if you're local to me, i'll even sawp you a cube of dried, split, for a cube of wet split
  9. she's been a beauty. done all i've asked of her, only problems have been a clutch, and cable. its been sank, overloaded, over trained, neglected. and i don't any other truck in the world would have lasted.. if they made one with some guts to it, i'd have had one of those instead of a tranny. seriously thinking of turning back to a straight tipper and keeping her. after all, when i sell her, she'll only make £6/700 at most. need her for the next three weeks, got three big jobs( for me anyway) the body is off an 03 crewcab ldv, had cage sides which i swapped for ply. then had the box made to fit. its very good i can get 3 saws, 2 hedge cutters, l/reach hedge cutters, 2 strimmers, blower, climbing kits, lowering kit + big box of accessories in it can't decide what to make the new back out of though
  10. got up at half seven as usual made cup of tea for the wife ( who was worse for wear) sat at the pc doing paper work for week after next job. 20 odd trees to come out, up to 60', on a building site (yummy) went to wprkshop, made two log sheds priced three jobs up, including a 40' horse chestnut that our travelling friends have started, got paid, and run ( grrrrrrr!) called at local on way back, two pints of pear cider, home for tea. happy days
  11. here's the current "pikey bus" followed by its replacement, collected monday from coventry ( thanks john, nice man) havn't decided how to construct the body yet ally planks from service metals about £500 quite fancy GRP panels, but finding thems proving to be a headache !!! any ideas ?????
  12. Hi all, just picked a job up in Newark Notts Due to start 9th August, but could be delayed a day or two. Need experienced Groundie Also general labourer, must be able to drive the tranny tipper. As its on a construction site both must be current holders of CSCS cards PM please
  13. i used to work for tree menders sister company....... be very afraid of touching any vehicles owned by treemenders..pmsl used and very abused lol
  14. i'm a one man band ( well, till next week when i join the ranks of employERS. ) if i only took 30k in a year i'd pack up. what with over 2k a year insurances ( van, PL, EL) over £500 a month fuel, never mind training, ppe, renewing kit etc it'd leave me with about 10k a year in wages  we're getting to the threshold now, so in a month or so i'll be splitting the business. gardening / landscaping on one side, and tree work on the other..simple to the vat man
  15. ha ha. put a new back on her (pic2) off an 03 plate. can't fault her, she's been about the best value for money truck i've owned. looking to upgrade to a crewcab tranny in the next month or so, i'd have another ldv in a flash, but the crewcabs only have one door. no good to me anyone interested in the pikey bus, drop me a line. she'll make an ideal first chip truck. the toolbox on the front holds everything you'd ever need (apart from the polesaw ) lol
  16. full blown pikey bus FPMSL
  17. ldv400 slow noisy underpowered falling apart but don't think any other truck would have lasted the last three months. nearly everyday on the bump stops zero maitenance used and abused would be the correct term had 5 landys in my time my back still hurts have a 130 tipper tomorrow though
  18. just got 20 lts of 360g/l brand name 'castlate' ?? ( ithink) central wool growers (CWG) depots all over £54-00 inc the dreaded ACE !!!
  19. we had the police cctv unit filming after some 'environmentalists' threatened to disrupt the removal of three TPO'd limes we recently did. very good film of the fells, but the chap in the van said he couldn't give us a copy due to data protection

  24. thanks. the site needs slimming down. there's way too much stuff to buy. if we get a few days of rain i can see the site being overloaded as arborists countrywide fire up their smartphones while sat in the van lol excellent site, clear, everything grouped where you'd expect it to be p**sed off about stihl and husky's policy re distance selling though i mean, just how much harm can you do with a strimmer head line insert ?????????? ffs lol
