  1. Might be fun, I had a Dartmoor pony some years back, he loved a bit of work, too small for riding but I used to drive him everywhere with a flat cart, & used him to pull dead wood up from the woods. Heres a donkey earning a crust: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB4ThjA2NHg]Donkey's fat, Egypt - YouTube[/ame]
  2. When it comes to drink/drugs at work it really is a no brainer. Not bothered about what is legal or not, just common sense. Bit like a ported saw is ok in my books, but one with a defective structure or safety feature like chainbrake is a no no. On that note, got your saw back, so when I get a chance next week I will pm you to expect it.

    info please

Hang around on here for a while, read loads of different threads, & you will glean loads of information. Welcome too!
  4. I'm struggling to see where any argument comes from, you simply should not work under the influence, any one who doesn't get that, or argues against it is probably too deranged to be employable! As an industry we should all recognise that, as do other industries. Simples.
  5. Rule 4, no need for your comment imo. Arbtalk.co.uk - Forum Rules
  6. Me too!
  7. It does split quite heavily over a fairly short time.
  8. I cant see any 'dogfight' comments here personally, so agree with Paul (above), but anyone turning out for work in anyway affected by intoxicants is out of order, whatever one gets up to in their private life.
  9. I'm with Huck on this, generally hard as, if your going to rig it, make sure the root plate is sound.
  10. Which bit Huck?
  11. Steinbeck's work is great, but 'east of eden' never sparked me up, 'the grapes of wrath' has to be his most stunning work imo. 'Babe's revenge' is worth a look, by Nora Titsoff...
  12. One might think so, but as you know a tree can have some limbs worse than others, or maybe would require rigging if climbing, where as in a mewp it can often open the option to step cut & then chuck with more control over the brash mat. With mewps, in my fairly extensive experience of their use, an awkward job can at times be carried out with more control of the risks, and in a more efficient manner. Don't know the specs of the job quoted on, but I have dealt with a few that common sense depicted that a climb would be a higher risk, &/or less productive, such as a limited timescale power shutdown on a dangerous & leggy tree.
  13. As Felixthechopper says, good quality logs, & local.
  14. I would get a consultant, he knows what to look for, & will advise what is best. Having said that, it is your tree, & you sound like you would rather have the logs, but bear in mind, by the time you have paid to have the tree taken down, put the time in to split, stack & season the arisings, it might be a win- win to retain the tree & buy in logs!
  15. I would get some lengths stacked in a favourable place for them last Knockings Saturday, & go wait it out on the sunday morning with a nice hot flask, once they have been caught I doubt they will return to your site.
  16. +1:001_smile:
  17. We all know the score, If you turn up for work after a session, its not just yourself you are putting in jeopardy. Have a conscience. Simples...
  18. My thoughts exactly, it's just laziness & lack of forward thinking.

If it has an arrow pointing out of it you have posted on it, if its red I think it's a 'hot topic', yellow for a newish one? If you get a pink one someone loves ya! Not had one of those myself though.

  25. If you are doing your reading, have a grip on the practical side of it, you will be fine, just take your time & enjoy it. The whole assessment is fairly straight forward really.
