  1. And where did the naughty looking 'edubirdy' hyperlink come from?
  2. Mark, as said above ringing some up isn't a loss; it's the only thing I've ever done with MP. Life isn't all about milling you know! In the short term I suggest ringing at every second ring of knots: some turners like to turn tall vases that include two whorls. Of course you can always cut them down later if need be.
  3. By far the most 'help please' tree that pops up on this forum; Goat Willow. I hope ?
  4. Corylus maxima Purpurea? Not unusual as a garden ornamental.
  5. Nobody? Not even someone in Oz or NZ?!
  6. A bit closer to home is Frans Brown in Glos - http://www.fransbrown.co.uk/
  7. This thread didn't seem to get far sadly. Here's one I feel I should know: Australasian I'd say - Banksia-like almost. The bark is dark red/brown and peeling; the wood is extremely wet and also a very dark reddy-brown. I have a pic of it but it's in Whatsapp - I can't/don't know how to get it from there to here.
  8. Nom nom nom nom nom... Happy Birthday.
  9. Poke the rear leg into the hedge so that the top rung is against the hedge. You reach then starts at the hedge.
  10. For that price I'll bet you only get the rear leg extendable. Seriously, go for the three leg extendable version; you can then level the ladder on virtually any 2-way sloping ground.
  11. Tripod ladder with all three legs extendable - brilliant. The only thing you can't do is lean well forward and sideways at the same time - move the ladder three feet sideways! They're very light in weight too. Good point about the width and the vehicle they're carried in/on: the feet of my ?11 rung tripod are a snug fit in the buck of my Navara.
  12. Got you. Ta for the reply.
  13. Are you too far from another dealer? I see there are outlets in Keswick, Carlisle and Ambleside.
  14. Make sure there are no sharp cuts etc; kittens learn to be agile beasts, they're not born that way. And yes, they will use your furniture, clothing, carpets too. You can try spraying the tree with Feliway; it does attract them but doesn't deter them from everything else. But the tree... round off the cuts, leave it as it is. When you can no longer bear the sight of slivers hanging off it and a pile of sawdust round the base get a new one.
  15. The best of luck for the weather; for your sake alone I hope the temperature's -5C!
  16. To be pedantic he asked if deadwooding it would improve its health. Surely it makes sense to consider more than one option; farmer certainly seems to be!
  17. But that's all unlikely to happen eh?! My thoughts are simply to leave it alone; it'll die and be great habitat. Farmer should appreciate that, being a custodian of the countryside 'n' all.
  18. Also looking forward to more; I'll be there for Christmas!
  19. Out of interest it wasn't you on the telly at Kew Gardens some years ago was it? I believe they were using HP nitrogen on that occasion. The effects, judging by pics taken a year later, were dramatic.
  20. No problem - register yourself in the Tip Sites forum at the top of the page. ?
  21. I usually damage them via punctures before their life's end but I have had 60k miles out of one or two.
  22. The Girls. Full sisters, again from the south of Spain though not the same source. Full sisters, they arrived seven weeks apart and reunited like they'd never been separated. Txiki (Basque for very small apparently) and Mini, who's smaller ? How hard it is to take a good pic of a black cat!
  23. The Kids. They were two of four found in an olive grove in a plastic bag, wet and cold, with a bottle of milk and a syringe in the south of Spain. My wife stayed up with them all night (she was staying with her mum at the time) but lost the other two. We got them four months later. Gin & Tonic my predictable wife called them ? I couldn't bring myself to stand on the back doorstep at night calling out 'Gin...Gin...' so to me they were Toots and Tweets. Neither made their second birthday. Roadkill...
  24. Mark, cut int into 5x 8' lengths (if it's 40') and find someone to haul it for you. Just get it back to your yard, then worry about what to do with it!
  25. And heavy as hell when wet. Keep your ankles well away Mark!
