Good to see you back on here: I think of you at this time of year because of your knowledge of apples!

    Mulch Circles

If you get some time on your hands you may find good info here
  3. Don't take my word as gospel; I just looked it up on Youtube as I have an interest in Thor, having had a Mignon until last year.
  4. If it's only 3 months not all the desired work will have been done: get in touch with regulars, explain (as said above) and offer your services. I'll bet you get some of them back.
  5. I think what you're after is at 30secs
  6. You stand to lose nothing by giving it a go so go on - do it. I left a rootball to dry a while ago and it just rotted so don't try and dry it too much before at least rough turning it. And please put up pics of the result; I know the colour fades as always but it's still stunning.

    Tool thefts

There never was a dedicated national database but forces could always check with each other if they wanted. Nowadays www.immobilise.com is the national database that Police and other law enforcement agencies use, along with Arbsafe, National Plant Register etc. So get your stuff personally identified and on a database. If it's nicked the chances of recovery are small, I accept that. If you haven't recorded it the chances of recovery are as good as nil. Your call. Sorry to sound preachy; I just wanted to make the point that identifiable property can be picked up by any Police Force.
  8. Out of interest does the law give right of access to the neighbour's property in order for the owner to carry out the neighbour's wishes? There are awkward people in this world ? who would demand that work is done but deny access.
  9. How long's a piece of string?! If you split the cherry down small enough it'll dry fine in a season. If you don't fancy I'll have it - it's nice stuff.

    Boot repair?

I've got a pair of re-soled Altbergs; top job done and the price is worth every penny several times over.
  11. Looks like Jonesie's your man then if you're in the market for one. But I think you'll find a Jo Beau M300 is slightly less ?
  12. They certainly have https://www.frjonesandson.co.uk/products/skarper-c120-pro-wood-chipper-up-to-120mm-diameter/
  13. Yep, that was the one.
  14. Don't give up all hope Mark: we don't know which part of Kent the guy's in yet. I'm watching this space for you! Jon
  15. Yes I did. Good stuff except for the presenter who grates with me! Bacteria and antibiotics are everywhere it seems and so the scientific prospects for finding new ones seem good. The real world problem is - wait for it - money. No surprise there. That E.coli demonstration by Harvard was sobering; 10 days to evolve sufficiently to overcome 1000x strength antibiotic - crazy. Those phages must surely have potential. If the Eastern bloc, not known for being technologically advanced or well funded compared to the West, can get decades of anti-bacterial success with them where have we been? In the pockets of the pharma companies? Surely not... I was impressed by the Dame and what she had to say which was in essence the message of the programme: the hurdle is money more than science.
  16. Depends what you call local. Westerham is local to me, Ramsgate isn't!
  17. 18"dia is on the large side for turning as you need a fair lathe for it (that some do indeed have): 12"dia is more saleable I've found in the past.
  18. You must be healing really fast; good to see ?
  19. They sure drew gasps when they were taken out of the box Steve. Lovely bowls.
  20. My Hastings renewal came through the other day - £132 less than last year. Result!
  21. If you want to know the species the se7enthdevil can probably help. Sorry Steve!
  22. I can't see a horse picking many seeds out of the chip it's walking on. But generally are horses given to eating their bedding? Do they eat the overpriced dust-extracted sawdust (oxymoron!) that every other nag I know of seems to need because it's asthmatic?! You may discern that I'm not a fan of so many of the beasts taking up so much poorly managed land that could be productive. Soz ?
  23. ...except where the coolness of Bolam is concerned. No compromise there ?
  24. ...except that the extra few unused inches get in the way when you're in dense growth. You can't win.
  25. Just eligible for this thread then ? Many Happy Returns and remember that 'Ooh me back's gone' is perfectly acceptable today when there's stuff on the tele worth watching (if there is).
