  1. Cheers Tony, that will be why i can not find it, it is not in my copy of Roger Phillips.
  2. Just spent 20 minutes looking through Phillips, and i am still none the wiser. Growing on a dead Cherry branch.
  3. They are producing alot of growth this year, and it maybe due to drought stress. My sunset tree started producing every other year, to stop it i picked about half the fruit in early june. Producing such a bumper crop was not sustainable for the tree, so it would have a break. By removing half the fruit early on , the tree was not so exhausted. It is now producing every year. For your trees i would prune out most of the new growth this winter, and thin out half of the apples next june.
  4. There are some huge Douglas fir on the small back road that goes out of Betws y coed towards Caple Curig. The road mirrors the A5 going towards the swallow falls.
  5. It's a long way west in West wales, any takers ?
  6. I was banned, but now i'm not woo hoo
  7. You can not beat the first trickle of water down your neck, to know that you are going to have a good day at work. Anything else is just boring.

  11. It was CODWOOD last year, but what will it be next year ?
  12. Two choices: Fell Pollard You can only work with what you have got, and you haven't got alot to start with. Happy lopping
  13. Shame you are not closer, other wise i would come and mill it.
  14. I bought the small one and put a long axe handle on so that i don't have bend down to lift a log.
  15. You will be wanting one of these: Ochsenkopf 380mm Hand Sappies | Clark Forest : Forestry Tools
  16. A Cord is a unit of measurement: 8'long 4' high & 4' width. Much faroured by our friends over the pond
  17. Don't let Jon see that, he likes big buts, and he will want a ride.
  18. How did you manage to get the branches to fall so slowly ? Is there less gravity up north ?
  19. Totaly differrent feel to Haytor, big multi pitched climbs on fantastic rock. Always seems to be bomb proof protection when you need it most.
  20. Personaly i would prefer Alder and Birch. I think that 6' spacings might be better, as you will need to allow for multi stemmed growth, once you start coppicing.
  21. I am sure that they have their reasons, but i would not want to try and justify it in court......
  22. I am going with Dewestone on the edge of Dartmoor

  24. Nobody has mentioned the Echo, 2 year pro garentee, magnesium back handle. http://www.radmoretucker.co.uk/category/Petrol_Chainsaws/product/Echo_CS610_Petrol_Chainsaw/
  25. Jewsons do a paint on waterproofer, that can be painted on wet or dry. It also contains some kind of fiber so it holds to the surface well. It is not cheap, but i repaired my flat roof with it 4 years ago , and it still has not leaked.
