    How queer, Alder is one of my favorate to fell: Generally they tend to be the straightest, and easy to get on the deck. Just go to show one mans meat is anothers poison.

    The newer stein water proof jacket is holding up well. The fleece lined collar always feels dry. Overtrousers with braces stops them from decending around your knees.

    It burn better than Laylandii, you need to season it to reduce the levels of resin, otherwise it its a bit poppy, and will tar up your chimney very quickly. The moisture content will drop in about six months if split and stacked, but the resin levels do take longer.

    The lidl have been brilliant, can not beat them for value for money. Also switching to mic setting is very good for sourcing unusual enginne noises, just make sure that the volume setting is turned down.

    If the ground is soft half bury 3 or 4 logs that the tractor can drive over pulling the skidded trees onto the half buried logs. You can then cross cut without burying the chain. P.S. it does not always work, but when it does its marvolus

    Dear god that is an unrulely pile of timber. Judging by the bleached wood on the top of the pile that has been there a while, at a guess 'there be rotting wood in the middle of the pile' Run away run away

    Posts are 2-3" or 3-4" diameter and 5'6" or 6' long, so you have a pile of fire wood.

    Skidding out in whole lengths for what you want is going to be the way forward. Make yourself an A frame for the back of the tractor. I made mine for £20 and has pulled out about 1500 m3 so far.. Don't bother with short lenghts they will either get lost on the way out or snag and flick onto the tractor, or both If you want i can send some pictures of my A frame for inspe.ration

    Here you go, see what you have been missing. There should be some video footage, but the curse of the brambles claimed its prize, my helmet camera So you will have to make do with some nice photos. There was some before as well but i managed to delete them. (fools of the world unite)

    Given the pittance that is paid for commercial planting by the likes of Tilhill etc, it is a miracal that the trees are planted the right way up. You do not good get good planting at 12p per tree.

    I think that £4-500 is more realistic, which is what i paided for my scabby old winch.
