1. Probably blockage in the oil pump (99% certain as it happens often) you will need to remove the clutch/drive sprocket, remove the oil pump and manually move the drive worm in the pup to back the blockage out. Also low the oil feed pipe and filter out and drain the gunk out of the oil tank. I swill some petrol about in the oil tank to break the oil down a bit and getbrid of more sawdust/ wood chip that gets intomthe tank. I did a thread on how to do it but it's died and disappeared somewhere now.
2. Easily fixed with a helicoil thread repair insert. Your local dealer should be able to repair it or you can buy a DIY kit for around £30-40 iirc. Will repair about 5 threads for that price. Edit:make sure he buys the short inserts if he gets the kit.
3. I never got all my tickets printed on the card but since it was back in 2000-2001 and no one has asked to see it I dont think ill bother now!
4. If you are referring to the pic that central posted its not relevant to this thread ie its not the same tree.
5. Sounds like a typical pricing scenario to me. Have nothing to do with the after sales, just price to do what you do and let them rake in the cash from the timber sales!
6. Wheres the flag this post button gone.
7. Can we assume then that if we book a MEWP out for tree work it SHOULD come equipped with a mesh separator? Surely the professional contractor here ie the MEWP operator should know what is required for the job. I would be livid if they turned up and wouldnt carry out the work.
8. or, use the used sloe's in dark chocolate. Sloe and damson gin is really nice, I always add a cinnamon stick and a teaspoon of almond essence, makes really nice Christmas drink:thumbup1: Info on the chocolates. sloe.biz • View forum - Sloe gin chocolates
9. HA, ha, I'm way ahead of you there Ive already sent it off to get sharpened at landscapingsuppliesandequipmentforu.com Just dont tell anyone.
10. Ive never climbed in anything but chainsaw boots. TBH though I couldnt see it improving my climbing enough to warrant not having protective boots, I couldnt be bothered swapping them over. Although I am thinking about just getting some decent steel toe caps next time around. Not to improve my climbing, just because Im a tight git and dont want to spend £150+ on boots.
11. Hey I'm that dog!!! Dont worry I do the same to but instead of running the farm I do the climbing and dragging. My truck is a skip.
12. Thieves:thumbdown: Saws are the first thing off the truck and the last thing on. We never leave them unattended, the second you do they are gone, Ive learnt from experience that the scum are everywhere. A lot of the time looking out of the window, next door.
13. Funnily enough I also aired my views to Stihl by email. I got a call today from the R&D department asking if I could send the chain over (they will pay P&P) as they have had some problems with the steel on a few batches and want to inspect it. Looks like its not my crappy sharpening skills after all.
14. Dont blame them. If some kid had an accident the parents would be on it like a rash RA or not. Tis the way of the world, best to just let it slide.
15. The plastic tool is probably the easiest and quickest thing to use, plus you know you won't damage the piston with it. Fair enough if it's not to hand and you need to improvise.
16. Really interesting vid.
17. Yeah you should get the blower and do it your self. Fair enough if the lads want to work the hours and like getting the money. I always though that if I have to work stupid hours continuously I would take a long hard look at my life and life style and change it accordingly. Im not a lazy bugger but Im certainly not going to work myself into the ground. Besides everyone says/thinks they work damn hard.
18. Yes Orange are pants. Dont be surprised if it happens again, if it does turn the phone off then back on again, by keeping the on/off button down for a bit.
19. Looks like a no on that front! Seriously though if your lads are working till 9PM please give them a good slap around the head and tell them to ge a life! There is no way on Gods Earth I would be working that late!
20. Just wondering what others think of the new chain by Stihl designed for the 201T. For those who don't know its a full chisel chain but with the top handle low profile. I bought some for the 020 an was fairly impressed at first. It is an agressive chain and cuts really well. But, after a couple of sharpens I just couldn't get it to cut, and I mean cut, it was like using a blunt chain! Now, I'm going to suggest my sharpening skills must be to blame. Have no prob sharpening the oregon super rapid 75LPX chains I use on the bigger saws so really baffled on this one! Even after knocking the depth gauge and the safety ramp down and getting some nice hook in there with a sharp point it just didnt want to bite into the wood. Anyone else having this prob with the chain or is it just me. Gone back to the 91 VXL as it is a good chain anyway. The only thing I could think of, well apart from my poor sharpening skills is that the top plate angle is too steep. So then impressed or not?
21. I had the same running prob with an old still blower. Bought a very cheap ultrasonic cleaner, bunged the stripped down carb in, back together and worked great. That was after I had tried all kinds of carb cleaners which didn't work.
22. Some pics of how to use it. Basically it needs to sit flat against the top of the cylinder and the top of the piston. Exactly like this one. Hope it helps.
23. I've only had one job were I have told the client I buggered up on the quote and changed the price, that was BEFORE starting the job, which then went to someone else. The other odd occassion I have cocked the price up the work had already begun so there was no way I was going to ask for more money.
24. That seems like a reasonable price. I keep meaning to get one for the 066 and 046 ill have to get one ordered!
25. You can get a new piston and cylinder from ebay for less than £50:thumbup1: Not a genuine stihl one but worth a go if the rest of the saw is good.
