I did it once to a potential Asian customer. Couldnt understand what she was saying so I just blurted out something like, "WHAT DO YOU WANT! are you trying to sell me a mobile phone or something!!" "Ermm no, I was after a price for some tree work but I'll call back later":blushing: She never did for some reason. Bear in mind I was getting constant calls from Asians trying to sell me mobiles, they really do wind you up when your dashing for the phone and its bloody telesales garbage. I hardly answer the phone now unless its a mobile or local number. Unknown numbers can forget it.

Sounds like the consequences arent worth worrying about then since that sounds like the worst case scenario! I doubt anyone will care if the odd pigeon nest gets a bashing by mistake. We usually leave nests if they have chicks but more often enough they are a casualty of war and its usually too late when they are found(99.9% of the time its pigeons in leylandii hedges). I could probably count the number of jobs I would win on one hand if I had to conduct and charge for a bird survey! Bizarre that you could possibly be fined and jailed for disturbing a nesting pigeon then go and shoot it while its causing a nuisance elsewhere. I try not to kill stuff but then again I wouldnt mind if all the sycamore aphid were wiped out.

May as well be classed as a gardener then. How pathetic of insurance companies putting height restrictions on professional foresters/tree surgeons!! Sounds like a get out clause more than anything:thumbdown:

I assume the HSE have already contacted you with the 'thumb not being in the correct position' incident. Did the waders come with the built in belly pouch?

Not a poll to ask "Which is the best harness" a poll to ask what harness do you have now. I'm going for sheer numbers rather than opinions which is where it gets all complicated, ie what you have now might not be what you prefer or would buy. If its not in the poll a quick post with the manufacture/model will do. Discuss if you like but I imagine most have got bored of this type of thread/poll but if not, knock your self out. Ill start with, Treeflex.

Doesnt look like a very well seasoned log. I would hazard at a guess that a Swedish log would be cut from softwood therefore being a bit better suited than hardwood. I remember seeing a web site that sold these, they had a hole bored in from the side to make a draft.

I would say that a dead tree in close proximity to people is quite a bit of a danger. It WILL drop limbs, so I would use that as an excuse/ahem, reason to remove it and replant. Replant being the most important bit there.

Buy a new bar and if you keep it away from the soil it will last years.

With regards to the bars I would say go with stihl. You HAVE to grease the oregon bars you dont with the stihl and they last a ridiculous amount of time so its not even worth considering the savings imo.

Use the right oil ie 10-30 10-40 no thicker, dont overfill the oil, dont tip it over.

Did sound like he made a good few points until the poplar incident. It came across fairly badly from then on unfortunately. I mean, who has any use for an arboriculturalist with velcro legs?

If they just filled in the small bit of plastic they removed then it would all be good.

Cheers for the info. But, chainsaw gloves are probably the most pointless bit of PPE ever!

Wouldnt it bother you though if you put the app in then the client uses someone else to carry out the work? IME if they wont pay for the app they will also want the tree work doing for next to nothing.

Chainsaw,combi spanner and a file.About as basic as it gets. You can do a lot with the above.: I wouldnt bother buying chainsaw gloves though.
