I like to see someone tidying up. I looked at a job this week to remove an old habitat of fallen trees and scrub because "It looks bad and needs tidying". IMPEO there are far too many wood lice anyway, I dont think we need anymore.

Ive got 3, although one has missing units that I do hold!!! One for chainsaw tree stuff, one for pesticides and another for Power line work.

I could lend you my harness. Just clip into one of the tool strops and you will be fine. What Ive done in the past is unclip just after cutting and hold my strop so I can just let go if need be.

Imagine driving all the way there to see the view, then finding out the rest of the field has been closed! I woulda just snook around it when no one was looking tbh.

Does it need to be burnt at a specific temperature? Standing dead elm should burn quite well from what I here.

Looking at the thread title I was going to say a blower. But Ill settle with Rupes flask as I have one too. Didnt realise the gadget show had got so desperate as rating flask though!

Dont forget stump grinders too. Considering that if you have an accident they are the most unforgiving machines in arb, it doesnt really make any sense!

Well if they couldnt work it out from your drawing then I think they need to re- evaluate their there work status. Its not difficult now is it!

I dont know any. There were a couple in college but they werent built for tree work and soon dropped out, well, they went into the consultancy side!! No joke, on tutors recommendations. There were also plenty of men who also werent built for tree work and also dropped out. Have no problems whatsoever of women in arb, as long as they are good at the job who cares? Theres plenty of men getting it wrong on a daily basis.

In response to the OP, £80-£200 as I see it. I wouldnt compare yourself to the groundie asking for £120. AN BEFORE anyone has a grumble I'm not looking down on groundies here, I'm saying what people ask for is no way in comparison to what they are worth paying. A good groundie is worth his/her weight in gold, that is a fact. I wouldnt get paid if I didnt remove loads of brash/timber out of the customers garden, a good groundie will make sure it happens quick and smoothly. Everyone wants to get the best price they can, and no one can blame them. Its your local/working market that will determine the rates you can get.

Well I agree with the OP. Why over complicate things. Its either crown thin,crown reduction, deadwood or for about 0.0005% of my customers a crown clean. Since I hardly ever get asked to do a deadwood, never mind a crown clean its not going to have much of an impact on my working life!

I bet he tries his luck by saying the other guy would do it for XXX cheaper when you give him the price. I lost loads of old customers because I wouldnt drop the price and compete with others when things got tight a couple of years ago. Just charge what its worth to you, or bung loads on, depends if you want the job or not.

What do I need to get legally to start up working for myself?

Legally, just employers liability if you have any one working with you. Costs, well the skys the limit! I assume you are totally new to the arb game, if so I would suggest working for someone first if possible. -
I did that but landed on my back(just like a dog!) Thankfully was only about 6-8 feet off the floor, plus the 020 broke my fall, oh hang on no it didnt, it nearly broke my back. Although it was nothing like yours it was a conifer that ripped out(old topping wound) Probably the size of my wrist, but depends on quite a few different things at the time etc.
