  1. Just watched it, excellent stuff. The fluorescent mouse was obviously the best bit.
  2. What the idea with the combi spanner? Is the spark plug different or something?
  3. Now that is a bargain. Surprised they can make a profit out of that!

Quite right. I do have quite a few customers that get us back in to repollard every few years but it is usually just the cost that stops it. The worst cases are usually land lords or HA who just get the tree topped to shut the tenant up for a bit but then don't bother with any further management.

Actually I think those trees look quite good. No joke btw in case you think I am taking the pee. They look different sort of old and gnarly. Surely our job is to manage trees to fit in with the urban environment, whatever that entails.
  6. I doubt anyone will answer that with any certainty tbh. I do know for fact well ime, whic hboviously the same thing! That when you sever roots on one side the tree is very, very prone to wind throw and going the other way. Ive seen quite a few do this due to fencing, walling, utility work etc, plus when the roots are hard up against good foundations and cant anchor.

  8. There has got to be something up with that Vermeer! If thats how they really run then they are going to sell none, surely.
  9. Everyone should make a stand and buy the new husky top handle rather than the 201 when its available. The only reason I preferred tihl over husky was reliability. It seems as though that going out the window now though!

    Own Up!?!

Fair enough, I suppose our different experiences shape our decisions. With mine, (most of my work is domestic) most healthy trees I remove are removed simply for light or leaf reasons. Any trees I top are usually for the exact same reason but the customer still wants to keep the tree and a thin or reduction etc won't fit the bill. I understand what you mean about rot and killing someone etc but in reality it hardly ever happens and ime the majority of trees I've seen fail have usually not been pollarded topped etc. In fact I am struggling to think of any failures i have witnessed from topped unions etc. Well unless you count leylandiis that have been hedged then left for many years, they seem to do a good job of splitting out. Not saying your wrong and I'm right but ime it's not a problem that I've came across. Plus alot of really old pollards/toppings look really good good IMO.

    Own Up!?!

Im that good at my job I could go round topping trees that I havent even been asked to work on never mind get paid for and I would still have loads of work. I still cannot fathom though why people think a bit of topping is the devils work and a disgrace but will then quite happily fell a nice and healthy tree! Logically its makes no sense what so ever to me. Fair enough if people dont like the way it looks, nothing wrong with that opinion.

    Own Up!?!

I provide a service that my customers ask for. I will give other options and advice but won't force the issue. I fell plenty of healthy trees, is that more of a crime?

    Own Up!?!

Apart from the rips I've more our less done that to loads of trees. A bit more care and a but more shaping and it woulda been sound.
  16. I think it has to be both. I doubt these days (well in the uk anyway) there are many experienced good workers who don't have the qualifications to back it up.
  17. Hopefully she isn't 'known' to the other 2!
  18. Can you hear anything making a clicking sound by the ram/oil filler when you/someone operates the switch? If yes then either the pump or the connections to(they are thick wires like battery/starte motor wire) are knackerd or in the case of wires by just need a terminal clean. If no(and it can be very faint and hard to hear sometimes), then either a fuse, switch, solenoid or feed/earth to the solenoid needs repairing.
  19. I think it is! Its only because the 020 is a better ground saw and the 046 beats it hands down chogging stems down that it hardly gets used tbh. Im sure it has its place somewhere though.
  20. Good man, thanks. Actually good job I asked!
  21. When a crane is used to full effect it is unbelievably quick. I hardly ever use cranes now though as I cant justify the £500 a day cost, great if you have loads of work but pointless if the diary isnt filled. They only get used now when there is no other cost effective option, or no other option.
  22. Excellent stuff. Anything that promotes our industry as a professional industry can only help us all.
  23. How many drive links on 18" bar? Had the saw about 6 years and bought about 2 chains in that time! Im thinking 72 but for some reason also 74! I also assume its a .50

Looks like it was nearly a snuff video about the dog! I watched it once, then turned the sound up to see if I was missing any important commentary, so thats 4 minutes gone.
