    Did you drop the big end in a 2.8 or 2.4? I have heard of people having problems with the heads in the 2.4

    As B101 said,different Vehicles for different jobs.I left a 110 Landrover in the UK and bought a Hilux on returning to NZ.At the start I hated it,untill I realised that nothing went wrong with it.A family friend bought it for their farm and its still going.Not bad for a Ute made in 1986 If I was building a dream 4X4,I would buy a Landcrusier 79series with the V8 Diesel and put an air locking front Diff in and that would be it.

    Two nice Trucks there Chris.The conversion looks very well thought out. The 2H Engine you had in your Crusier is a good one.Its hard to find an old Crusier like yours without alot of Rust in it here.They fetch good money here even with 400K on the clock! I have a 3B Engine and gearbox out of a Cruiser in my Series2 back home.

    I think it is a 79 series,I think it came out with a plastic bumper.Thats been take off to get the Bars on.

    Over the years I have owned or driven many 4X4's,often in places you could and did use them for what they were designed for and sometimes beyond what they were capable of. As a rule,I have found the Japanese and American Vehicles to be the most reliable.From the Suzuki SJ413 to Dodge Rams or my current Chev Suburban the Japanese and American Vehicles have the edge in reliability. I think this is because of two reasons,one in the case of the Japanese vehicles is that they spent the time developing their Vehicles and delivering specific models aimed at different parts of the market.For example the Toyota Hilux utility and Surf series then the Landcruiser FJ70 and Troop carrier.Two pickups and two Passenger Vehicles from the same company,but with up sized components,not stretched Chassis like you encounter in other Marks. With regard to the American Vehicles,they tend to be over built and have large simple Engines with a long and proven track record.Example the Chev 6.2 V8 has remained the same since its introduction in 1982 and is still available as a crated Engine from the Factory.Their Robustness comes as a weight penalty off road,but it is important to remember the Tracks and "Lanes" in North America are often wide enough to accomadate these Vehicles and much of North America is temperate. I do have a soft spot for Landrovers,I own a series 2 but with extensive modifications.I would not own a landrover again as a work vehicle.I think that their cult following in the UK is mainly due to them being the most serviceable off roader available at a decent price.I wonder how many landrover fans would convert if these were available for £5000?

  12. Logosol is great if you have uniform lengths of Softwood.Otherwise its to light in construction to handle larger hardwood. Alaskan Mill can do any size log,is cheaper and easier to use. We have a Logosol adorning the roof of the Container,used it twice.

    I would think double.The Mog is twice the weight,has twice the Engine and twice the number of gearboxes.Parts are quite pricey compared to LandRovers. Each machine has its place,I would try and keep the landy to complement the Mog. Also the Mog will have to go to an HGV mechanic if you can't do the work yourself.

    I've not used Haix for years,but thought they were good boots at the time. I like "Klima Airs" but usually wear through the Leather covering the Steel Cap after about a year.Squirting Windscreen Sealent into the hole seals it for a while,but once they are holed they are on their last leggs.

    Two years is a great Run from a pair of Boots,thats a year longer than any have lasted me.
  20. Burr Oak and Yew. No one wants to Mill it here,so in the Fire it goes. Surprising how well Yew Burns,this was a couple of Feet thick at the Base and pretty straight for a few Feet.Not usual at all.

  22. Buy a Magnetic Electric heading device,stick it to the Sump.Problem Solved.
