  1. If the Tree is leaning back. The deeper you cut the face, the less Timber is holding the Tree up. Might be fine if you have a tensioned winch line on it.But not flash if your tapping it over with Wedges. My Face cuts for Trees are 30% Max.
  2. Fair play. I have seen some pretty amazing pictures of the angles they can run on.But thats without a chipbox. I am cautious in any off road vehicle on a side slope.
  3. Classic Dave! That website is going to get alot of use!
  4. According to that BMI scale posted,I am Obese. Apparantly.
  5. Took down a couple of Spruce down a Bank.Stripped one and Rigged it with a Pulley mid line. Then pulled all the Branches from both and the Timber from one up the Hill.Ripped the other Tree into Beams and the lads pulled them up while I had some important Phone Calls to make.
  6. Make sure your Boots are well worn in,if possible worn in the same kind of Terrain your going to be moving in.Thats because going up and down carrying a load changes the pressure points that your Feet experiance. I take it that you have worn a heavy pack for extended periods before?Otherwise your shoulders and lower back may get rubbed worse than they probably will be.You could try toughening up the skin with Methelated Spirts. But what you really want are Callouses there. I had to carry a Car Battery and Rifle 40km through the mountains last new year.No fun.
  7. Blow the Chip back into the Hedge as "Bio Mass". Maybe limb the Stems up a couple of Feet above your level. Then when you fell them out, they won't disturb the branches at what is soon to become the new top edge. Christ I am glad I'm not doing that job.
  8. Get a Ball Peen Hammer and a flat surface like a Stump and hammer it straight.Unless the Bar has been folded, you should be able to do it.
  9. Hang on. Someone hacked off a few Branches from a Minging Sycamore and threw them in the River.... Thats hardly Bludgeoning White Swans or Setting Horse's on Fire.
  10. If theres one going for the right price I would grab it. Its abit like the jack in your Car,you hardly ever use it,but when you need it,you really need it.
  11. I tell them about it,I want the Job more than the "feel good factor".
  12. Thats true. Before things like that were common or available you just had to find a way to get the job done.
  13. When does it turn into a Shark? I would like one if if actually turned into a Shark.
  14. I would't have risked it. Fair Play to the Man though.
  15. Prove to a firm that you are a grafter, buy your own kit and offer to work Saturdays for normal pay etc. Tickets mean alot to a newbie, but not alot out on the Tools. Comes down to the Man,not the Papers or the Gear.
  16. Nah,just thought of it this morning. Also remember there is a time difference between Norge and the UK.
  17. It looks very nice! Its probably great for Urban Tree work as it looks like its geared towards municipal type work rather than towing a laden Trailer across the Sahara.Which you could and can do with a Square Cab Mog. I went through a Puddle with mine today. It was so deep it nearly came up to the Rim of the Tyre. Now I have to clean all that muddy water off the Chassis before it stains.
  18. I was thinking today, that new Climbers were probably more proficient in the days before Colledge than now. My reason's are that in order to be a Climber you first had to show your ability as a grafter before they would give you a chance. Also the person showing you the skills and techniques would demonstrate the skills needed to do the job in an efficient manner It seems today that all it takes to get into Arb Colledges is the right amount of money. Sadly these new graduates seldom have the experience or attitude to gain employment, especially in these tight times. I know there are still plenty of young people learning the Trade "on the Tools" today, these people in my opinion make for better Trainee's.
  19. Granted. However the former owner had a lenghty thread regarding the faults he experianced in this Mog to the Tune of about £8K. The former owner told me himself the condition of the machine when it was delivered to the vendor that Giles purchased it from. Wether the faults were rectified or not, is up to Giles to show recepits for. The vehicle does have a very checkered history documented on this very website. Why does he not put the Vehicle in the Classifieds where it belongs, rather than a picture of it on a Discussion Forum where it can and has been Discussed?
  20. No I do not think making the NPTC Certs harder would work. I think a more stringent vetting and tougher Character of Students getting into Training organisations is what is needed. Also a Production based assesment would be helpful.I.e a Trainer visiting you on site and asessing you abilitly to actually perform the tasks in a Production situation would help
  21. another thread falls victim to the "arbtangent"
  22. That really does suck.Sorry to hear about the theft. Maybe consider a car Alarm, its a deterrent at least?
