  1. Its former owner was bracing himself for the cost of a replacement Gearbox as the Layshaft was rumbling. They can/will go on for a while like that. Do you know if the Gear box was over hauled before you bought it? I remember the guy who owned it saying it burned about a Liter of Oil a week, was there any work done to the Engine while or after the Head was replaced?
  2. Has the Lay Shaft been fixed in the Gear Box Giles?

I opened up the Exhaust port on one and ripped the Baffles out, welded the original port shut and like you cut another. It vibrated the heat sheild off the front of the engine and the Chain Break melted and fell off.So I replaced it with sections cut and bent to stand it off the Muffler. Then it got Stolen. Give your 066 the treatment. It will pull a 36" Bar like a 24".
  4. Tack some half round around the top edges of your bench. Then nothing rolls off it.

Did you do any work to the Engine mate? They really Roar with and Exhaust mod.
  6. Sounds like a Golden opportunity for the right person. I'd have jumped at this if still in the UK.
  7. Spot on! People call us with a problem they cannot or do not want to solve themselves. If I had tried to talk every customer out of "needlessly" felling every Tree that I would have myself kept,it would have been a huge waste of time and a large cost in Money.
  8. I was wondering what Boots are the Best? Also what Chainsaw Trousers are the best for me? Are Unimogs worth the money? How do I reverse a Chipper up a winding driveway? Why don't Chainsaws have Reverse? Are LandRovers better than Japanese Four Wheel Drives? If Timber Wolf Chippers are so bad,how come alot of people use them? Why hasn't the Day rate for climbers risen in the last decade? So on and so forth.
  9. Jumping onto the Bonnet of a running car.........
  10. Nice job Mate! How much for a box for my Mog?
  11. maybe just a thick rope with knots tied in it,then a thin rope that you could abseil down on?You could wear a rucksack that carried you Bino's and Ammo in and just tie your Rifle by its sling to the end of the thin Rope and pull it up when your there?
  12. I think the small size of the average back garden in the UK means that alot of the waste must be handballed out.

    Check you inbox mate!
  14. To be honest alot of the bad repp that is spoken about firms abroad,is from guys who couldn't hack the pace/were not good enough. Top climber+Top Speed=Top Dollar
  15. Nothing made in Norway. It all seems to be piddle.
  16. Buckingham Titainiums with Velcro pads. Carbon fiber is for Fishing Rods and wankey Motorbike Mufflers.
  17. Scandinavian Knutkolling Kjemperfint fremstiling av Trepleie min godt venner!
  18. Thats what we do.We get 97% up front once the Debt has been handed over.It costs about £300 per year for this service.
  19. Utter Rubbish mate. My sister had VW Beetles when I was a kid.Dad called them "Hitlers Revenge on the World".Dad always seemed to be fixing them. When my sister moved abroad,we stripped the last one she had.Took it to a mates farm and Riddled it with gunfire.
  20. To be honest I would buy all the parts new from Jonsie. Then you have a presentable saw you could put on ebay?
  21. Mick thats shocking. I think the person(s) responsible probably couldn't get their Transit van onto the Footpath round the other side.Because it looks like they did the one side standing on the Roof of the Van using a motorised pole pruner.
  22. I think that people are generally right in wanting Hardwood. It burns longer and at a higher tempreture. Here in Norway Birch is the most sought after Firewood. We hardly ever take that off jobs.Oak,Ash,Yew,Syc people won't touch. We used to ring up all our logs and let people come and take what they wanted.Thing was that folks would fling wood around the yard attempting to burrow into the piles in search of Birch.Weirdos.
  23. Always a good idea to visit a Country for a while before deciding to immigrate. When you are there, compare the cost of food, housing, transport against what you will take home.New Zealand is a very expensive place to live in on the wages most Tree Companies pay.I worked back home for three months recently and found the food prices comparable to Scandinavia. I have lived abroad for 12 years now,the wages havn't risen much in that time.Seems that most companies pay around $20ph for a climber with HGV.Thats in the South Island anyway. I can't speak for all Tree companies but the work rate is twice what I experianced in the UK. Jobs working for DOC are pretty sought after.I don't know what qualifications you have, but to get a post without a applicable masters degree in somthing Enviromentally related it pretty tough.Even if you do have a Degree,it somtimes takes a fair bit of voluntary work to get your foot in the Door. Most companies are not too hung up on qualifcations, you'll get a trail period to show them what you've got.HGV licence would be a huge help in gaining employment with many companies. Its pretty cheap to get it in NZ,but I am sure you have to be a permanent resident before you can sit it? Having said all that, the quality of life in NZ is hard to beat.If your into the outdoors then there are few comparable places to live. Its pretty safe, very clean and most of the people are genuine. Ross Smith on here,is moving back to the UK.You might want to send him a PM for some more up to date info about how he found working in NZ All the best with your adventure mate!
