  1. I would not fell it for sure!! Looks like it has no targets so there is no need to any way, If it was mine I would reduce the crown by roughly a third there is a line you can see around that level that would reduce wind loading enough to make it stable.
  2. It's the way forward , you don't need nothing fancy if your good on spikes !
  3. Well john I think you would like the pub in greenhaugh mark said about there's a big table so all the locals mostly farmers and any one who walks in sits on and discusses the world like before Arb talk, friendly bunch .... I know the chef so I'll ask him when I see him at the social club tonight or tomorrow if he knows any good places to stay there. Send me a pm when your up if you fancy a beer , I nearly caught up with you and Paul at the APF but had just come down with shingles and felt very ill and didn't really know what was going on.... Needed some beers for the pain and then home !
  4. Sorry yes it was lost in translation !! , I meant people who leave trees in that position.
  5. Cragside has coaches full of tourists as well , not my thing.
  6. It sure does !! You really want prosecuting though for endangering life leaving a tree in that situation.
  7. Seriously they had walked away from a tree after making the felling cut? How long had it been left for ?
  8. It's pretty low per tonne but then it's a heavy dense wood , we were getting £27 per tonne back in February for biomass on second thinnings but where lucky to have a buyer 10 miles away.
  9. I had a oleo Mac saw years ago and found it really nicely balanced and a good performer.
  10. He would wouldn't he !! I may take him up on the demo of an efco hedge cutter soon.
  11. Been looking at the efco 156 that looks a lot of saw for the money and light.
  12. Fitted a solid one a few months back after a dual mass that had barely done a year started breaking up again.
  13. I was thinking allendale didn't get a mention, Allen banks is nice and along the south Tyne is all stunning country side ,Your not far from Alston which is Cumbria either from allendale which has the steam railway.
  14. The holly bush is a good one ... So is are the pubs at fallstone which is close to greenhaugh so look around for places at greenhaugh and falstone its all national park there and your close to hadrians wall and keilder this ones in falstone ,worked here the other day and it is stunning also has 3 good pubs near by but about the most expensive to rent In Northumberland ! http://www.sykescottages.co.uk/cottage/Northumbria-Northumberland-Greystead/Greystead-Old-Church-23575.html The first one I sent you a link too is out side the national park also on a working farm and the a accommodation is the nothing to write home about but I like staying up there if I want to be on the coast , good pubs and Food in local village there. It's a big county so maybe worth doing a few nights in the national park then up on the east coast around Anick or the holy island john is what I would do.
  15. Very durable bars I'm not to keen on the one I had on my 560 though ... Running another 560 with a pro lite I was reaching for the Oregon by the end of the day finding it that little bit more flick able for snedding , great bars for tree surgery that will last a long time though.
  16. Out of curiosity have you tried selling planks on eBay john?
  17. There's chalets near keilder Jon also ... Midges have gone now as well . Shame the pub near marks folks shut that's very quiet ... When the guns have stopped firing any way, we were working up on the army ranges last week which are massive and in some very wild places totally untouched ,me and Rachel were saying it would be great to have a farm out there.
  18. I know of a few cottages up on the east coast on a friends farm.. One of the places I fish Sweethope lochs has a holiday cottage that's pretty much central Northumberland , very quiet although the views been slightly ruined by the huge turbines that you either love or hate !
  19. Where do you fancy going john ? By the sea or more in the middle ?
  20. 550xp but back in the day the 254xp

    Mogtransit

Or dual mass fly wheel ...1969 is an old mog !
  22. People make the massive mistake of still trying to thrust and lock like on a prussik , hitch climber arm over arm method is completely different and like pete says allows you to rest arms in that position.
  23. Try not too , it annoys me when you hear a saw running out of fuel and the operator is trying to get that last little bit out of it for the reasons pete says.
  24. Most of the what was on the loads was this though, there's still some to pick out that's not got bad shake but hope fully got some decent saw logs for the mill but that's good to know thanks J .
  25. Just paid £45 a tonne for oak and mixed hard woods amongst them was some decent oak we have separated and won't put through the processor, the seller was debating putting a parcel together of decent timber together but I mentioned it on here and no one seemed interested so like most things it's a buyers market @£45 a tonne its reasonable if your buying the lot ! Not separated I recon ,
