1. I won £50 last draw On a £4 bet
2. Always thought this was a great photo, it's sure not looking much like a hedge at the minute though.
3.
Yes it worked as a good combo , the winch was a farmi 3t (very simple to service)not that it makes any difference! The most important thing was the winch was fully serviced and had a good clutch, I was amazed at what it would pull, often whole storm lodged and hung up 70ftplus beech trees the only problem was skidding but the tractor was quite effective especially on two wheels and steering with the brakes so make sure your fordsons brakes are up to scratch, often used it on bigger jobs with a case 78hp tractor that had big front weights but the simplicity of the IH made it a lot more monoverable , now I'm using a valmet 6400 with a Norse 5 tonne winch that the winch desperately needs a refurb , have better skidding power but the winch is nearly on useless and I wish I had not sold the old farmi! If your not on a budget a remote 3 tonne winch is what we are after , looking at The Riko ones at the moment.

4. I was told the other day metal chain brake handles are not acceptable in a work environment by HSE .. I have no idea if this is correct though!!
5. Tree stuff in the states mate but it is not ce marked also the sell it by the ft rather than the meter so keep that in mind when ordering.
6. Yeah I believe so mate , I still have never heard a saw as loud as your 390 though!!
7. Spuds got videos of a ported 390 and a ported 395xp the 390 went first then we put the same bar and chain on the 395 with out sharpening, the 395 was noticeably quicker It felt and looked.
8. Nice trailers , what will the white hiab lift ?
9. Spot on , there's stacks and stacks of timber in keilder that's been felled this year and barely any of its been moved out due to its cheaper to import it as the pounds so strong... The knock on effect is worrying talking to one of the bigger hauliers this week and the some contractors and they are all worried !
10. Think I'll stick with my pinto ... beautifully simple and easy .
11. Lasted about 18 hours , Stressed and smoking more than ever at the minute and feel crap for it .. I always like joe enjoyed it but the girl friends has just given up and We have another family member about to go to lung cancer 4th in 5 years so I think a trip in too town and try another e fag just to try and ween us off.
12. Hi joe I don't use that method so can't help ... I'm not fully understanding what is going on in that photo so would be intrigued if your self or any one else could explain it as it looks interesting , links to you tube would be great ! Have you tried the alpine and pulley retrievable system ? That works well for me as long as there is a clear retrieve route with both tales together.
13. It's really good to see a vid of yourself talking through your thoughts of what your doing and why ... That locations stunning as well.
14. Tree stuff?? Have a lot of spares for wrenches not sure on the mk1 though
15. Nice work ... The more you do the easier it gets to see a line to follow with the curves and tree shape , the tree you have done looked a partially difficult one as well as your not taking the same uniform amount off all over to make a balanced tree... Also if your asking your grounds people if a bit is sticking out it usually is!
16. It's going well mate .... It's a madder than a standard one for sure, compressions up , just replaced another starter housing as its chewed one up again.
17. We switched to all stihl back then after getting a years service out of 262's,266's and not a good life out of a 3120 switching to 340's 460's 066 and 088 seemed and was the best thing to do... I also think back then there was a lot more hand cutters coming in to tree surgery as forestry was on its knees for hand cutters keeping husky in the game. I always missed the 262's though and when I started buying my own saws first off was a 357xpg and that was the start of a swap back to husky, better anti vibes and power delivery, I think the 560's are probably one of the best saws made I've used despite the problems of the early models.
18. I think it has and it always will be the case that across the board husky's have the speed and the stihl's have the torque, how to get the best out of the saw will be down to how the operator uses it to there advantage or disadvantage I would say stihl's are fool proof , getting the power to work for you with a husky I see a lot of operators struggle personally I would not use anything other than the husky's and I have the choice of the above line up for work bar the 3120 and 661.
19. A lot of FC stuff has gone missing recently ... Good to hear they are catching people.
20. That's exactly what I mean retrenching the crown removing to the layer under those two blobs.
21. MattyF

346xp

Had an older one and thought it was hopeless ... One of the only saws I've brought and then sold on.
22. I would not fell it for sure!! Looks like it has no targets so there is no need to any way, If it was mine I would reduce the crown by roughly a third there is a line you can see around that level that would reduce wind loading enough to make it stable.
23. It's the way forward , you don't need nothing fancy if your good on spikes !
24. Well john I think you would like the pub in greenhaugh mark said about there's a big table so all the locals mostly farmers and any one who walks in sits on and discusses the world like before Arb talk, friendly bunch .... I know the chef so I'll ask him when I see him at the social club tonight or tomorrow if he knows any good places to stay there. Send me a pm when your up if you fancy a beer , I nearly caught up with you and Paul at the APF but had just come down with shingles and felt very ill and didn't really know what was going on.... Needed some beers for the pain and then home !
25. Sorry yes it was lost in translation !! , I meant people who leave trees in that position.
