  1. Are you going to be pimping it up in company livery and colours Ian? Looking forward to seeing it finished.
  2. There's some absolute monsters in crag side itself ! Still have yet to find the tallest Scott's pine I the uk there though.
  3. Did you see the stacks of Douglas when they clear felled the left hand side coming out of crag side from rothbury ? Some amazing trees were in there ! Problem was once they started removing the giant stacks of Douglas off site the corner of the wood with not very mature trees on the other side of the track started getting wind blow in to the road.. Last job we did for the FC before the frame work changed again! But an enjoyable one !
  4. Getting in to the habit of religiously checking important things (I would not include the constant checking of chain brakes one!) will keep you from serious injury or death, I can tell you that from experience ... Nearly on a few occasions I have nearly leaned back and quickly checked to discover that it would of been a nasty mess if I had !
  5. Owner was really happy Steve ..... Next door was not though, I think they had arranged the original pruning !!
  6. I think it looked better with them in David !! Every thing is broken and under repair from chippers to cranes at work so just had this heavy reduction / crown reconstruction on this small Crimson King this morning that had been badly hat racked in the past.. After
  7. There's a few things to take in consideration if your removing a complete stem on a tree that mature ... I'm sure the T.O will fill you in but like what you already have it will lead to the trees being unstable , I've never seen a mature beech handle having a limb that big removed without causing major decay setting in un stabilising the rest of the crown. You may be better massively reducing that limb to limit wound size and stress and then reduce the rest of the crown by say 25% to reduce the risk of wind sail failure by the dynamics of the crown being altered by the limb showing massive necrosis being reduced heavily... Or as tree quip says fell and replace ... I would like to see it have a chance though if it was mine to develop a new crown lower and more stable.
  8. Great news. Looks a stunning tree ,Let's hope it makes another 500 years
  9. No not at all its teaching you the basics really , by looking at what you said was included it's going to give you every thing you need to get started with out getting too deep.
  10. Think I'll be trying some of them bill.
  11. Mind you that was when jack Kenyon was running the course at Merrist wood , you would of been privileged to of been taught by jack back in the day...
  12. I've know plenty that have , it's a great if you need a crash course and need to get on earning or ticketed up if you already have experience.
  13. Nice pics as usual Paul , did they sell the timber off the Douglas ?
  14. I'll send it back if you want a play... I may send the other unmoded 560 now the warranty is out although it is nice having a quiet saw!
  15. I'd make all the students Sgt. Barnes it mate,no mincing around .... Your right I'd probably get bored after a year and I seem to make most people cry when I try and show them how to do stuff any way , the paid time off looked good though...
  16. What level is a nation certificate in Arb ?
  17. Thanks Luftwaffe , sorted now !
  18. Does any body know if this is a generic part or only available from wilsons ? Just broken the centre boom slew cast holding the lever .. Many thanks Mat.
  19. It just has a habit of eating starter paws more than 560's usually do as there's to much compression!! , lucky to get 30 hours out of one. Auto tune is a bit lumpy on this saw but its been rebuilt a few times and its a very early saw so I don't think it's the port work, in all it's an animal and pretty frightening freshly sharpened with an edge off the rakers
  20. Flippers ?? Surely you mean slippers ??
  21. It was , sadly I think this great and informative piece of filming work has been removed from the web. 😆
  22. Yep then slip it over the carry tool... We need to make some vids of how we roll doing are quick draws and re holstering ... Maybe even a quick draw stand off with our saw strops techniques could be the next big event at the APF like
  23. Rings essential for me Dave , I hate not having saws stropped up on a hook.
