  1. The lack of ring did put me off the recoil , that and already spending out on the teufelberger that seemed to be lacking bounce for a bungee lanyard imo , how does the recoil feel if you miss the catch and drop a saw on it?
  2. The teufelberger is bungee I thought ? it's nice and well thought out but does not take the shock out if you have to drop the saw quick like the stein bungee does ,which is why I would choose the stein if running a husky 540 because of the rear AV damage risk.
  3. Thanks for the kind words fellas Dunno mate it was no bitch ! Great weather stunning location and the machines did all the back work, one of the finer jobs I've done for sure and definitely beats rigging out a mature tree in the city where you can't even scuff one of those freshly laid slabs /fences walls buildings and electric sub stations directly under the tree , so every bit of rigging requires amazing planning positioning and pre tensioning , then the awful parking and drags through houses ... Green houses or glass roofs and conservatorys or being stuck on the m25 until 8 an night and constantly trying to keep your eyes on your kit ....na mate I'd pick doing jobs like that any day of the week even if it was raining
  4. Are you using the stein bungee ? What saw are you using as well on the lanyard ?
  5. Unless your working with stock you will have plenty of time to do tree work... If that's the case I would do both and pick the jobs you want to do and can make money from any way.
  6. Enjoyed that , hopefully I'll remember some of those tips for when the Alaskan comes out again.
  7. Cheers fellas , the Landy has one of those handy bumpers that made attaching the tag line once redirected off the forwarding trailer easy for him to see the lowering rope guy / girl to guide him in Joe , was very tight against the wall but some how it all slotted through perfect! I did contemplate the alpine with a winch but it worked well with this set up and saved using a heavy cable, One of those jobs you get a buzz out of for sure, gutted about the resolution once down loaded though!
  8. The gardener had cleared the one that failed and lost some in the ravine mate, It was not me! I was quite careful to keep stuff out as I fish the burn higher up , it's prime sea trout salmon breeding ground off the north Tyne. I would guess it was 15 m deep ? We got it hauled back in that last one Ben but it was a pita ! It should be 1080 but my internet is so bad it won't download it higher.
  9. Queens of the Stone Age , I sat by the ocean is what it's called mate ! Cheers , The stills at the end are a bit cheesy like ,but they tell the story.
  10. Just found the pass word for my go pro account so thought I would edit this from last summer. Tricky oak dismantle at a mill that required some out the box thinking, the bridge was not wide enough for a crane and no room for groundies to work safely on the existing bank. The tree next along had failed and slipped down in to a Ravine taking out a large portion of the tree we felled , the roof and the wall and the remaining tree on inspection had lost a lot of its roots so the client wanted it removed.. 11. That is proper tidy Tom , you can keep yer skid steers after seeing that in operation.
  12. H ha I'm gonna keep on going on about SRT until you see its merits as it was you and tim that finally persuaded me to get off the Prussik back then can only thank you for it!
  13. I've changed and would like to think progressed over the years , took me 10 years on a Prussik to realise there where better ways so moved to a VT hitch climber set up with rope guide which felt the ultimate for about the time again until the last couple of years where I've progressively changed my climbing style to SRT which I feel was the best transition to make to keep up productivity combined with the experience gained already I feel I can climb productively for much longer and keep an edge over the younger guys for a bit longer!.
  14. Nice vid it does look like it throws and works well , I get what you mean with the epple it does have that feel but at the same time especially with a carabiner the rigidity of them both combined makes flicking it out easy when your done ,I've yet to have it stuck although come close.
  15. Got to be another plus point for the uni forest winch, the igland would have but the link arms have been lengthened so the pto fits with out issue.
  16. Just about fits on a 10ft with a winch.
  17. Avenues of trees that is works a treat in limes that can be a night mare for isolating a high anchor point if loaded with epicormic. Here's another good one [ame] [/ame] Marcus , terry how would you compare the dmm to the epple ????
  18. It's pretty much a time saving necessity if working big open trees or avenues.
  19. It's not intended as any thing other than a work positioning aid , to use it as a primary life line is a big no and not what it was designed for.
  20. How does it throw like? Is its weight an advantage ? It does look nice , not sure I'm a fan of having a massive open metal hook hanging off my harness though but I guess it would be stored in a bag most of the time .. Would like to try one but I'm pretty fond of the epple hook.
  21. That pretty much sums up working for them.. Again pricing so you don't or won't ever make a profit or cover over heads will win you a contract too.
  22. Winch tractor yesterday had to be winched pretty much to wood entrance as the thaw turned the ground to soup !
  23. Stay in the private sector if you have a good client base , every one seems to be cutting each other's throats for the scraps of FC work and to be honest its demoralising ! If you have nothing to loose in filling one of there tender forms go for it but gone are the days when the beat forester would recommend and put who he thought could do the job for a fair price on it.
  24. Would like to see the finished product , are you using the slabbing attachment ?
