  1. That's a great idea mate.
  2. I'll see what the guy says j and if he can wait that long any way, I know he's been on the phone today asking about it and it's across his front drive a nice house and grounds so looks a bit messy , I could not roll it any further at the time , he originally wanted it logged but that is one of the straightest bits of large Feild maple I've found so thought it's criminal to do that ! If he can't wait I'll take the Alaskan down as the tractor and cranes out of action. Would it be worth cutting in to thicker boards If the Alaskan is the only option for the band saw later ?
  3. Should of searched,Thanks Darrin. It does look nice.
  4. This Plippy trunk what do you recon fellas ? If it's a yes what should I pay for it I was thinking £50 ,Too much or more? Was thinking its a morning with the Alaskan.
  5. Taken from Stihl Africa I guess !
  6. There could be a lot of factors in that though stubby , have not used mine in six month.... Then it will get a hammering so obviously if you have sense you would rinse the tank of stale fuel before use but I bet many don't.
  7. On a quick net troll the 090 was still made up until 2005 for export in Germany ... The saws in the photos my guess are ms720's ,I'm no Stihl old school saw expert so excuse my ignorant in first comment but it does appear the ms720's are the main saws used in this market and are still in production ... Which really goes to show how much they care about the well being of people in Africa or rain forests as long as there is a market.
  8. Those bits fly on the tandem Steve, nice work. I use the big ISC 50kn swing cheek and rigging plate tagged with an old climbing line linked to a sling and small pulley for returns , just remember to tie a knot in the end as they do build up line speed and pull the whole lot through.
  9. I have the reliability down of 880/088's as questionable ... They are one of worse saws I've seen with running problems and seizures for the actual amount of running time used.
  10. They do still make the 090 for Brazil and rain forest country's ..... Just a thought
  11. Rapeseed may encourage mold?
  12. That's quite a bit !Another important point is the anti vibes on the 661 will be vastly superior to both the 880 and 660 and it will have a cleaner burning engine with reduced emissions for you to suck in all day.
  13. This usually gets stuck in my head and start to sing it when things break and need a fixing .... Which seems a lot lately , probably need to come up with a new strategy in life to cope with stuff when things brake though really .... [ame] [/ame]
  14. Will be more than £150 when you add a 4ft bar on ? Would choose the 661 every time , there is not barely any trees in the country that a 36" bar would not deal with if your confident in double and bore cutting when felling ,the chain speed is a lot faster and it weighs less.
  15. It definitely didn't look that big in the video ! Nice photos btw mate
  16. Are they in rippon Tommy ? Just sent them an email for a quote I think if it's them.
  17. Cool will give them a bell in the morning , cheers
  18. I've found one for around £325 Tom online , how much did they last charge you mate ? Yeah it didn't have a good day ! Had to call out a valtra dealer as it stopped dead and just before that the pto stopped working ! Both problems fixed we just wanted to finish up and get off the site and the last log of the load had some issues ! Brushed the wing mirror which went through the windscreen !
  19. Any body know or recommend the cheapest or a place with good service for a new windscreen? Thanks, Mat.
  20. That looks familiar John ? Decent chipper too !
  21. That's a tough one with the GRCS you could buy 3 decent rigging kits for the price of one... But they are great bits of kit but as you said you would need one grounds man who knows what they were doing with it. Regs new device looks good for pre tensioning... I stumbled across this for £400 second hand ,does the job for pretensioning lines very easy and will handle stupid loads and can lift stuff if needed and is brutally simple just a like a Hobbs... A GRCS I could not justify for subby work unless the company already had one or I had won the lottery!
  22. Won't play for me Hats ??
  23. I'm pretty picky about what rigging kit I use and prefer to bring my own. I have a Hobbs style bollard that has paid it's self off many times over with the advantage of being able to pick and balance big limbs and pre tension big lumps of timber being snatched so you can get that bit more off before you have to dice a stem when over patios ect to pulling or pretension storm damaged tree trunks. That said there is not much you can't do with a portawrap.....pre tensioning you can live with out but you won't want too once using a system that can. A good 16mm double braid and decent pulley with strop and a bollard will see you through most jobs proficiently I would of thought.
  24. The Landy picker looks a handy bit of kit John.
  25. One of my old groundies did a corespondent Arb course relevant to Australian natives from the UK, I can ask him next time he's back in the uk ... He ended up joining the marines after a few years for grist woods though and never went back to Oz and is out the country and hard to get hold of, But the course is definitely out there.
