  1. Another option we did try but I'm not disciplined enough to sharpen the awkward or blunt ones unless the saw is wearing it.. I could try getting some specs so I can see the cutters better I guess !
  2. I would not dismiss it entirely , I'm having a problem with filling too much hook on my cutters when tired and wet at the minute and debating getting a grinder or one of these now I've seen one too keep my chains in check every 5-6 sharpens. I like a nice clean deep hook on the cutters but it can cause too much trouble in wrong conditions or wood.
  3. Couple of days trying to sort out a mess!! I guess maybe was left for a stroke processor /delimber that never arrived ?? any way I've always wanted to say to the winch wench ,sorry my love I could not resist !
  4. Very tidy site !! I wish the bomb site I've been on trying to clear others felling was the same !
  5. Is it much quicker than hand filing ? Looks an interesting option. Any chance of some pics of a finished cutter?
  6. I found the easiest way to inflame tennis elbow was use a saw one handed , climb on a Prussik and split wood with an axe or bang in wedges... The axe though really was the main issue....and miles and miles of one handing cut n chuck in conifer hedges.
  7. Not sure if they would be big enough as the trees are quite small still, I'm not a bat expert but I've only seen them in much larger cavities ... There was some nice natural habitat in the older growth though, plenty evidence of woodpeckers and nesting.
  8. A little thinning job on a shelter belt of aspen and alder and oak on the out skirts of ancient woodland in the Northumbria national park this morning. Asked to leave the site messy and not in neat stacks so we did but also selected 5 or six of the larger trees like this ....coronets and false cavities for nesting birds. Most of the trees we ring barked to varying degrees to kill or slow down regrowth leaving one intact to see what the results would be. The tops came in handy for hopefully trying to keep deer off the hazels being coppiced for the first time as well.. Will be interesting to visit the site in a year or so's time and see if the trees have any new habitants.
  9. Yale kern or cougar blue on 8 MM armour prus , armour prus is pretty good as you will burn out cord quick and it's the toughest I've found any way!
  10. I get you now mate. 12 stone mark?? Too much turkey ruined that for me !
  11. Do you cut your own logs or have them delivered ? Just saying as there is nothing worse for deliveries when the customer shows you his brand new log ahead around the back and still thinks your going to charge the same for carrying around an obstacle course to the new log shed!
  12. Do you recon an extra long tether would solve that rich ?
  13. I've owned all of those and the only saw I miss is the 361. There are many better 50cc saws than those two ,they are near ancient design not good power and delivery and awful anti vibes as well ... They made a mistake replacing the 361 though it's a cracking saw!
  14. I would sell the 24 and 26 with out consideration like but would never get rid of a working 361! .
  15. Petzl are never going to recommend the use of the ZZ with the rope wrench because they will not support a product made by ISC it's simples !
  16. Cheers james I'll look them up
  17. Looks a nice busy job james , who did the uprated springs on the l200 mate?
  18. Looks like a 230 turbo ?
  19. I would be interested to see if any one has tried the SAKA knee ascender ??
  20. Does any one want to buy a haas ?? It's only a year or so old !
  21. You have to get the velox now RMac !!! Hadn't seen that joe but it looks good ! [ame] [/ame]
  22. The haas is pricey but worth it , the thing that makes it work well is the elastic runs down nearly the entire device so you get much more return with the up step of the ascender ..... Another way to get a good return is double up the elastic it's nearly as good maybe better.... I will try out some thing at weekend it maybe a knee ascender you can Russle up for about 20 but have to see if it works first !
  23. It performs great in the wet, not as warm or bulky as the Harkie either. In comparison to the pfanner Ventura though it's a tough call , my Ventura now lets water through in heavy rain after a years use so I'm just wearing it for showers and saving the cut and climb for constant wet deluge work. The only thing against it is the smock design over the ease of using a front zip and it has no hood .... The Ventura hood fits nicely over the top and the run off does not go down your neck when paired with the cut and climb jacket .
  24. Oh and don't descend with the ascenders still attached !
  25. It's not really a case of sitting back and repeating more of walking up and sitting back for a rest and admiring the view when you have done 30-40 ft in under a minute with out breaking a sweat! You could go the route your talking about personally I would just buy a haas off honey brothers or one of the knee ascenders off tree kit , I've made my own and it does work well but tbh for the hassle of testing it until you find something that does work efficiently your better off getting a bit of kit out the box for the job.
