  1. Best for stiff wood that one.
  2. Damn forgot the 150!!! Can we have 7 saws, I need a 262 and 461 also on that list!
  3. 540 550 560 395 Could work in any situation with those 4 and be happy with there performance, anti vibes and ergonomics .... The last choice would be for nostalgia so a dolmar 166.
  4. I was thinking about this today's and would retract my original post... if we leave the EU it would definitely loose value... On the other hand I can't see that happening.
  5. Where abouts are you Cris ?
  6. Cool work reg, a friend of mine was talking about going out and doing this a few years back but said how many you were expected to do in a day and I thought Hmm could probably manage it for one day then need a week off.
  7. Cheers daren 👍🏻
  8. Trees at risk from barbers chair would be heavily leaning or weighted trees, or some times even light leans with say ash at the wrong time of year (usually around now ! ) so basically your putting in your back cut as standard felling cut and the tree starts to split before you have finished the cut leaving a proper hinge... The felling cut was on the face of this mess!
  9. Is it the yellow thing that's inside the cab in this photo ?
  10. It's an old tractor though! Will have a look in the morning.
  11. Cheers , can't say I have ever noticed that.
  12. I watched a cyclist the other day when I stopped at a red light at some road works come flying past me and weave in to the closed lane and travel along until he nearly went down the trench been dug , my eyes could not believe it.
  13. It was intermittent all day which was another strange thing.
  14. Is that a kill switch for the pto ?
  15. Miles apart tom , the diff lock switch is on the gear controls and the pto over the right rear arch.. Stop switch ? Where is this CHC ??
  16. Pto will not engage but when switched on but its engages the diff lock instead despite being on the pto lever on 540 or 1000 , the diff lock switch still works on the forward reverse but its definitely engaging it on the pto switch as you can hear it click. Any body experience this before , it seems intermittent but for love nor money it would not engage after a break this afternoon.
  17. Didn't really think it was any thing to do with fashion just more people on this small island wanting there own space, as the old saying goes they don't make land any more. We brought 30 acres off the FC, kept it for 3 years and sold it keeping 8 acres for what we paid for it ... In hindsight we should of kept it longer as it was good grazing but ended up being planted for Christmas trees any way!
  18. I'd hang on to it , the price of land regardless of use or quality is permanently on the up it seems ... Unless you need to cash it in but as discussed above with the tax brakes associated with wood land its definitely making it more desirable as an asset, I also think there will be a shortage of timber in the future potentially making the crop more valuable.
  19. Buy him a new chain.
  20. I thought he was starting his own forum?
  21. I didn't even think there was any j red dealers left in the uk , when I wanted one the only option was an import.
  22. Would not touch an efco with a barge pole , owned a 50cc oleo Mac which is essentially the same saw like the husky /jonsered thing (which I can't believe people put higher on a list considering it's the same but never mind!) it lasted well until I needed parts then it was almost impossible, I also had a 70cc efco on demo a few months back and it was sluggish the chain brake broke and in general just didn't feel up to much. The makita / dolmar felt good when I tried it and to be honest owning ms 260's ,261's husky 550's and In the past 346's I would say it would be close between the 550 and the mak/dolly 5105 for new saw time.. The husky felt it reved that bit more whilst the makita felt like it had a bit more torque. Can't comment on the echo I've not used any of the new models but the saws I have used felts like 80's throw backs and didn't grow on me at all.
  23. There was a cheap Schliesing on eBay but think it is front mount.
  24. Lucky man to spend some time listening to mr Girling.
  25. On the plus side if they are not jumping on the chance of paid for tickets it's sounds like they would not be enthusiastic enough to start a firm and go in to competition against you so I would pay for there training , sounds like they just want a paid holiday and easy life ! Book the course and pay them and get on with making money afterwords , it's all tax deductible any way.
