  1. Keep an eye on your gaffs getting clogged up with dead bark !
  2. That pretty much sums it up the subject of fire damage to cobra to me ... And as tree quip pointed out whilst your house and every thing else around you is turning to charcoal the cobra bracing catching fire really is not a concern! Marks points are very valid the only thing maybe to worry about would be rodent damage to cobra but I've never seen that happen on any of the trees I've installed it on and some where in areas infested with tree rats, is there any reported cases of this happening ever ?
  3. Smooth work Sam 👍🏻
  4. Me neither joe , but in all seriousness why wear something not how it was designed to be used ?there are so many harnesses out there now the choice is unbelievable , back when in the day when there was virtually zero choice and the only harnesses available compressed and your kidneys so bad they made you pish blood if you did lots of saddle time and vigorous climbing I absolutely love the fact my tree motion hangs off my hips.
  5. Yes timon, you are... The unwritten rule of the trees about wearing your TM up to your elbows... It's pretty serious
  6. Good to see your foots better dude!
  7. Steve kaput ?
  8. Krpan winches are great value and power , hydraulic feed and remotes may put it out of budget but you won't beat them on price on a standard unit.
  9. Possible mate .... Dry weather and last years grass and lots of half defoliated Sitka...
  10. They break in Greg, mine was a bit moody but it's fine after some good hard work clear felling.
  11. Incredible footage .. Hope every one gets out safe.
  12. Just my opinion but oak does not react well with steel bracing hence why you see a lot of pulled steel cables in oak.
  13. What happened to charterhouse Richmonds ? they were the last supplier I used for steel bracing.... Buxtons has a few bits maybe give them a call and see if they have more not listed on there site.
  14. What would cause a piston ring to snap Steve ? Put a genuine husky one on a 550 and it lasted about 8 tanks of fuel before the saw lost all compression and cleanly broke in half ... No damage at all though!
  15. Maybe they should spend some money and put articles in the farmers weekly ... That would be my first port of call ,I know for a fact they don't see a vet tree ...just a knackered one or a pita that's in the way on there fields for Machinary , most don't realise what they are custodians of..
  16. Aye mate .. Just passed another pile of veteran ash and a load more marked for felling I can only presume by highways or the council ...Soon this road that made you feel like you where entering some where special and not ruined will end up looking like every other shite and B Barron road in the country.
  17. Totally agree there Kevin... Would any of the governing bodies in the tree industry be prepared to make and distribute such information though that is the only way I can see it being put across...
  18. I'm seeing more and more veteran trees getting felled up here , the tree officers seem to encourage it for safety ... Another tragedy is seeing ancient pasture getting ploughed for grazing , one estate seems to manage another Feild every year.
  19. Didn't know that about the shingles either ... Think I will still give them a try.
  20. Really like that idea Andrew , may mesh the front but the weather gets pretty wild up here. Hey nick ,it will be from the river side it ended up half the size than when we first looked at it and layed the slabs for , I put the half up and realised I would still need double the timber that I had milled I want to save the last few logs of dry Douglas I have for the floor boards in the house... Did you have enough larch boards ?
  21. Another thing is just undermine the COG and get huge chogs on the ground nice and easy barely no effort.. If your going to go big rigging it will help as well.
  22. Ahh that makes sense, watching it on a phone screen ....last pick was still big ..
  23. Nice Peter , some ballsy cutting I thought the last tree would of been 2 pics !
  24. Sounds a good idea , I've noticed that in the log drying sheds we use that are Yorkshire clad but with logs they do get wet but lots of air flow is important as well with them. With boards I suppose you want it a lot more stable... I guess open to the elements is not going to help either! How will you achieve a 10mm gap Andrew on the vertical boards? I think having a gap around the bottom will help also when it floods it won't create so much drag on the building.
  25. That looks nice ! Loads of dry space for sure , mines more of a hobby than a full size industrial effort.. But would like it to do a good job of the timber and not mouldy or dry to fast, biggest problem is that area floods so the racks will have to start 2 -3ft from the ground
