  1. If you want me to test drive a freebie pair, I will write a review for you afterwards
  2. You worked it back perfectly- for some reason the forum did not post my sad at the end of the post putting it in context. I was making the simple point that turning over money & paying tax is the easy bit.
  3. Let's play a game...... Read the above posts & guess who believes everything that is printed in the Daily Mail
  4. I think it is about finding your own level/market and exploiting it. I work as a contact climber primarily, but i am building my own work slowly. I price high & achieve a lot in a day with the help of some highly skilled staff. So, although my price is over £600 on a typical day, my wage bill is going to be approaching £275. Turnover is bullshit - profit is everything!
  5. What colour is the spark plug ? Best indicator of how a saw is tuned. Never understood why a muffler only modded saw needs to be run rich - I set mine primarily to factory settings, then with a tacho & then check the plug, as I do with any saw
  6. Ladders are great for deflecting branches away from cars & greenhouses - uses are limited by imagination only
  7. They have been sent to spam mail - 7 emails already & The first was unwanted
  8. When you do get the knot undone, have a careful look at the rope. It could have potentially damaged the core. When doing a heavy pull, I try and use a big portawrap on the pulling end & on the tree I try & wrap the rope around it several times before tying it off to reduce the force on the knot directly. Hope it's ok
  9. I understand your dilemma perfectly. However, without experience most people are very unproductive compared to those with even 6 or 12 months in the job. It is difficult for an employer to invest time & money on a trainee at anything above basic wages and still remain profitable. Often the training phase will mean they have to overstaff jobs, which can have a significant effect on the bottom line. The subbie on £10 hour will have to buy all his own kit, have zero holiday pay, zero employment security, zero sickness cover etc. To be honest the wage you were offered is on parity or more than the subbie. I am not taking sides on this, as I have been on low wages in the past & also had to negotiate wages with my own employees. The bottom line is, sadly, that without experience to back up you qualifications, your going to be fighting for a decent wage. I hope you get something acceptable sorted soon.
  10. What, with minimal practical industry experience & entry level skills, do you perceive is a reasonable starter wage?
  11. 32m x 16m - I hope that is the reach not the dimensions Stefan good luck with it !
  12. I don't have an issue with tattoos in the workplace and I hope society is getting past the stigma that once was attached to them. I am more interested in people's behaviour & language in front of a client. Good manners always reflects well on a company I think.
  13. Become a business seems to be where I am heading. I had tried the managing teams route, but unfortunately my employer was not on the same page. i have had a few years back contract climbing & cutting & I am slowly developing my own thing. I am employing really good subbies, running with the work smarter and harder ethos & concentrating really hard on my customer care. Fingers crossed that things will work out well.
  14. The running of the rigging was a massive factor by the looks of things, & the selection of kit did not help either. I hate using rigging blocks on dead or compromised trees - the extra force can be destructive. i really hope the guy survived to fight another day.
  15. Someone appears to have spammed the thread
  16. Vertex vent. Protos is too fragile & the hearing protection is relatively poor. Stein is nice, but does not fit my head well.
  17. Tight squeeze !
  18. Tenex dead eye. Tied with cow hitch or timber hitch.
  19. I've always assumed that wedges were permitted for those nasty backleaners - but then again I might be wrong!
  20. Your mill will not abuse chain like normal use. .325 will stretch & possibly break chain regularly. I did try a 440 on .325 years ago in the woods. Predictable result of destruction. Glad to hear it does work well on the mill - much stretch?
  21. I think the 046 would kill a .325 chain. Way too much power. awesome saw, never been bettered imho
  22. I prefer a fitted tarpaulin roof - gives that flexibility for easy loading
  23. Is it an infection? All the trees bar one displayed the growth habit
  24. I was re-reducing 5 massively over pruned Ash trees on Friday, when I began to notice some unusual growth like you can see in the images below. The other unusual growth habit was the massive annual growth- epicormic shoots of over 2m in length in 2 growing seasons. i have seen this before , years ago & always wondered what the root cause was. Any ideas?
  25. I may be able to help you.
