  1. I don't see how - you can cut the hinge finer as you do not have to compensate for the longer fibres if you think it might be a problem.
  2. On the subject of high back cuts, if there is no, or little chance of the tree shooting back on the stump, I make my back cut level with the bottom of the face. Less timber wastage & a reduced chance of over cutting - thoughts?
  3. Gets a +2 for being smart enough to cut a deeper hinge on a back leaner- easier to get the tree to the tipping point 😎
  4. On a treemotion, the leg loops & risers are points of articulation so wear is inevitable. It is often compounded by poor adjustment - where one side is a different length to the other causing uneven loading. Was the other side similarly worn?
  5. Mature Douglas fir - carving big lines in the bark & going nowhere fast. Not worth trying unless you have long gaffs
  6. [ame] [/ame] Good tune
  7. So where do you go from there Reg, Dave? Do you live by different rules & ban them from using the saw how we do, or, when you think they are ready teach them how? I am working with a young lad at the moment & I am seeing not only that dilemma, but several others which are a product of my "professional" habits & methods
  8. I have to admit, that I get annoyed when everything gets delivered quickly & correctly - it's not the same when you don't have to phone up half a dozen times, shouting & screaming just to find out everything is on back order.
  9. With very little media attention (no surprise considering), our government has passed a bill of monumental consequence- the snoopers charter is here ! The right to privacy in our communications & online activities has now been removed. I understand peoples logic of " if you have nothing to hide the why worry?" , but I consider this a serious erosion of basic human rights. Kiss your privacy goodbye - Britain just passed the most invasive surveillance law in the democratic world [OPINION] | The Canary
  10. If I am dismantling a tree I use one. Cannot think of a single good reason why you would not! I own a couple - 3m for small trees & 5m for the rest
  11. So what should people be charging for a inspections? Everyone complains that they don't earn enough as people treat them like glorified gardeners, so where does that leave the inspectors? Guess we are just taking cash out of people's pockets for messing around with there stinking lot & receiving abuse because we fail it because it is only 10 years old & has been frayed like that for the last 6!!! (Rant over)
  12. Insurance is invalid without it. A claim is easily nullified when you have not adhered to the letters of the law. Very much like an onsite risk assessment - they only want to see it when the shitty stuff hits the fan.
  13. My take too Darrin. Curved blades for above the shoulder or below the waist. Between which I usually use a chainsaw
  14. I would not want to buy my winch without radio remote. They offer a massive leap forward in both safety & productivity. You can even de bog the forwarder on your own
  15. Is the spout higher than the back of the truck? If not, point the chute up & let it run along the sheet to the front. Bob on here has refined the design of the tarps & worth a shout if you want to go down that route
  16. A tarp might solve the issue - easy to remove if timber has to be put on. The best method of attachment is with ratchet stamps at the tailgate end & bungee cord along the sides & front
  17. Sugoi 420 or ibuki - why mess around with a little saw when a bigger one can not just cut bigger timber, but reach further too. Not fond of straight blades either, as they are ergonomically poor & much less efficient cutting above your shoulder height, or down below your waist.
  18. Got real mog envy now I'd love to get a u1000 as a restoration project rather than a work horse.
  19. Looked very well constructed & thought out. What is the payload?
  20. Has anyone splashed out on the new Cloggers zero yet? They look good at first glance
  21. I will be landing Thursday dinner time - be cool to catch up with you Mick
  22. Having used both, I prefer the 441 in the woods- better balance & lower vibe levels & auto tune make it my choice. The 461 does have more power & pulls a bigger bar with authority- for cross-cutting/ ringing up it Is a better choice IMHO.
  23. I got quoted 600 for fitting a recon box on mine. 3rd is very bloody loud but still works so I will wait a while
  24. Is that Cody there? Welcome to arbtalk dude
  25. 5 years is the default lifespan, providing that it is still serviceable - manufacturers can stipulate otherwise however so read the manual also.
