1. I may be able to help you.
2. When viewing the unread posts, I have discovered the "condensed list" button - magic, especially when viewing on a phone. Gets rid of all the crappy bulk
3. I use a 13mm & 16mm wirecore flip line for dismantling & a rope strop for pruning. The Swedish is too clumsy & numb for me. i use grabs as Prussics are too easy fouled with dirt & sap.
4. Looks an impressive compact machine - perfect for such jobs. What is it like on steep terrain?
5. Not everyone exhibits the bullseye- they think it is absent in 20% of cases of lymes disease. I live in an area that has a lot of ticks & check myself every day & I also wear chainsaw trousers with gaiters built in.
6. I have some new progress type a & After the 1st month I am really impressed- we will see how the next year goes with them
7. I really dislike.325 in the woods. Too fragile & easy to stretch & too many cutters to sharpen. I run a 441 cuttings 95% hardwoods, but if you wanted a smaller lighter saw I would run a 560.
8. I have whipped the splice tight onto the safebloc now. Zero movement. I would not dismiss it for some poor splicing, as it is a very useful tool
9. I think the pot, muffler & carb were different- I would definitely put a 372 pot & mod the muffler. It will be a nice saw
10. I work on the principle that they are the dog's to loose. If they hump, feck off, be aggressive then they are gone. Otherwise why bother?
11. Working solo does wonders for your fitness!
12. What was the cause do you think? Minor air leak or some neat or badly mixed fuel perhaps?
13. Yes - learning when to work solo & when to bring others in is very important. Solo is very very slow on the wrong job. Having a selection of good subbies is also critical & hard to put in place.
14. Mine was from honeybros. I'm interested about the issues with trex as the sling as opposed to tennex. Any sources?
15. Mine appears to be spliced tighter, however there is the potential for some movement as you would expect.
16. If it can slip out, then it needs resplicing- i will have a look at mine later & check for movement. I presume the sling is tennex or some similar.
17. Park facing uphill & leave the tailgate open?
18. My NFU insurance covers it
19. Nice cutting Tim, however not my choice of cut. I have seen & experienced issues with the humbolt whilst felling stems. The stem can stall if the opening is not obtuse enough or if the face cuts meet with insufficient speed & I have seen them stop or veer to one side if weighted that way. I use the humbolt frequently, but for this application, I would go conventional, with a snipe on the bottom cut.
20. New boots - need to extend the foot strap I'm a size 44 so not massive feet either
21. Glad you found some decent hingewood. I have zero experience of softwoods of that size & condition, but would a vertical plunge cut, through where the face cut was have indicated how much sound wood you had to work with?
22. I have heard rumours of great success with putting an 066 carb on them - interesting
23. Nasty big snag Reg & looks like it was a real pig to do. Was there much solid wood for a hinge? Sometimes they don't go down without a fight!
24. Am I missing the point here, but is this just a paid pre-qualification for the AA scheme? I am struggling to see any benefits for the investment. It is a mentorship scheme perhaps?
