  1. No single builders/ dumpy bag will last long being dragged far, especially across concrete, tarmac etc. If you don’t have a supply of once used bags get an arb trolley and carry it.
  2. Well done in getting some more kit together and back to work so quickly after such a kick in the teeth mate. It’s too easy to go into a downwards spiral, so good to hear your positive. They would of scouted the area so if you haven’t - ask around the local area, look out for any cameras and ask if they’ve captured anything. Good luck for the future.
  3. Oh, and is anyone selling an Avant or Multitone loader or similar?
  4. So even you don’t practice what you preach? a bit of a contradiction there?
  5. I think it was mentioned on this forum that they weren’t that easy to contact. Perhaps at a show (if there is ever one again!) when they’re trying to sell their kit they’re reminded of that?
  6. That’s the poor design of IW trailers with sides and others in that to tie/strap down any thing heavy there isn’t anything without those IW recessed ones or similar after market ones! Then if your moving chip, sand or stone they fill up. If 500kg was applied as photo sides would probably bend in. I bet if the load was applied on hook next to where it’s welded on to body it would take In excess of 500kgs.
  7. Wait till the AA get sight of it?. They’ll go to HSE and we’ll have to ware 2 of them?
  8. What about one of those fence panel coating brushes on a hose from a can?
  9. What I thought as already been covered? I’m off to bed, I’ve had a another hard day taking advantage of the better weather working on flat rate?
  10. Is it Riko that sell these? Ring them and ask? Surely they would know?
  11. Can’t compare Arb rates with Plumbers and Sparkies cos they’re on double time all week?
  12. I put a price in for all my work, I win some?, I loose some?, some of those I win are done on a Saturday to fit them in if the client is happy. How many jobs do you think I’ll win if I allow time and half for myself and two blokes? - probably none?. I’m not underselling myself or my blokes, I’m trying to be competitive. I don’t know how many “Arbs” are in your area but around here there’s quite a few from professional outfits to those that tarmac, pave, trim hedges, lopping and topping? they’re all competition. The other week I even lost a job to some power line weekend bush monkeys who the client asked when they were next door to him! They did the job for cash - you guessed it?- on the weekend. The only thing is they weren’t insured, they didn’t have a chipper?, and they left a mess when they didn’t come back?the following weekend! bloke begged me to clean it up and grind the stumps? it cost him more in the end. Realise that most power line Tree blokes are a professional bunch but the they have their “ bottom feeders!” Were not all operating in Hampstead, Kensington, Notting Hill etc where we can charge divorce lawyer rates?
  13. Did you actually work on his property then to complete the job? You’ve already offered to clean the stain so that’s admitting responsibility surely? What do you think caused the staining?
  14. As Khriss says there’s a big difference to whips, bare root, potted, root balls? If the ground is already hard then an auger could just polish/ glaze the hole sides making it difficult for routes to grow and develop beyond the confines if the hole. As far as I’m concerned the hole size needs to be at least twice the diameter of the pot or root ball. If they’re hedging bundles dig a trench if the grounds hard and mix in some compost, if pots or balls use a digger and mix spoil with compost. Obviously if you have access for a digger, otherwise spade, shovel and bar? . That’s just my opinion.
  15. I’m self employed, I’ll work Saturdays for normal day rate cos I know that very soon there’s going to be days and part days I can’t work due to weather. There’s also going to be days when I’m crook and can’t work?. There’s no sickness benefits for me or company scheme where I self certify a sick chit- nobody will give a sh**. Blokes who sub to me also think the same fortunately. There’s an old Chinese proverb that says - “make hay when the sun shines“? but obviously written in Chinese?I just interpreted it for you all?
  16. The tree officer is not “bullying/threatening” your tree surgeon! He’s simply pointing out the facts. With a TPO applied If anyone carries out any work they are liable and could be prosecuted. The tree surgeon should know that?
  17. To apply a TPO to a tree the council and Tree Officer have to follow a set of procedures including notifying the public for comments(or not?) check if they have followed this procedure and if they have forced it through - appeal! You may well have a case. There is always a chance if a tree is protected by the Conservation Umbrella if someone applies to work on a particular tree it highlights it to the Tree Officer?
  18. Hasn’t the chap you’ve been working for been slagging your kit for being “underpowered”?do you now not agree with him?
  19. I think it’s always good to post under “Picture Forum” with a “picture!” Don’t know about everyone else but I like pictures?they used to say - a picture paints a thousand words? Have you got one of the half finished hedge at least?
  20. Consider attending a NPTC or Lantra course for felling trees over 380mm first, you’ll find the information taught useful as it’s not just simply up scaling a single bar length gob and back cut. As as already been said a 461 with 20” bar is sufficient and easier to operate and less tiring than a long bar.
  21. Had to move a small Oak of a similar size to this Lime because it was in the way of my new workshop. Looked into getting a tree spade but none local and figured it would cost £4-600 anyway and for that I could of bought 10 or 12 potted trees 2.5mts high? Having just planted more than a hundred mixed trees both potted and root balled and seen how they had trimmed the roots and just slapped clay on the root ball before wiring I decided to move the tree myself?. As a mate was working with his 11/2 ton mini digger literally just around the corner I grabbed him at the end of the day to “just do a quick job for me”? what I simply did was dig a square trench around the tree with a large pit on the one side to allow me to drop the loadall headstock and forks into it and used this to sever the roots and soil beneath the rather large plug? Rounded of the plug with a spade and wrapped around it with fabric and pig wire, a couple of ratchet straps around to hold it together and lifted the lot out of the hole. Moved it 50mts and set it down on to some slings and backed forks from under plug and reconfigured the forks above root ball and lowered it down into the new pit having mixed a few bags of tree compost with some quality topsoil. Lay a wrap of 100 mm plastic drain pipe around the base for watering and backed filled with quality top soil and trod it in. Didn’t require staking or bracing as it was solid. This was carried out early April ?2019 and so far it looks promising, full leave flush. Next two years will really show if it’s succesful or not. Not many lateral roots to trim but couldn’t believe how much root mass was below the ball. Didn’t trim them as decided to minimise root loss. Watered it well all year(we had a few hot days if you remember?)The whole thing settled about 75mm over the next 6 months. Only took a few pictures cos I was rushing to keep the cost down? Cost - a good drink?, those digger drivers drink a lot?? sorry it’s long winded gents but that’s how I did it. Limes are hardy and will survive butchering above ground so loosing a few roots won’t harm it!
  22. What tree is it? Is it shedding what look to be healthy limbs or are they dead/ too big to support themselves in high wind! The tree may only require reducing/ management work - not removing completely - in which case the TO may have a point. Consider this before removal. Once cut down you can't put back. As others have posted - get a survey/ professional advice and go from there. Try not to make an enemy of the TO, most are only doing their job! I'll probably have a different view when i have a difference of a opinion with our local one:001_rolleyes:
  23. Sounds like you've got all the gear Bill. Is this a job for a client or for yourself? Hope you've allowed more than a day. That machine should of had that stump by bait time. Is the hydraulic pump down on power? Ovbiously the use of ANFO is a lost art:001_rolleyes:
  24. It was quite apparent that the no's attending was boosted by people that were visiting the arboretum and went to the show sight seeing. Of course it entertained the kids:001_rolleyes:At times in some of the main sales tents I was bouncing of people with prams and kids that had no interest in the trade, just curiosity:001_rolleyes: At times they made the food queues longer and filled the seating areas. In my opinion the entry to the show should be completely separate then things would be more realistic. Disappointed Honey bros and Jones's weren't there because I was looking to purchase a mid range saw and maybe with a bit more competition the sellers that did attend would of sharpened their pencils a bit more because as far as I could see the prices were little different to normal day to day internet/ phone prices.
  25. What ever you do don't allow the horse on the kitchen worktop, its not very hygienic apparently:001_rolleyes:
