  1. Why are you more likely to require arm protection in a MEWP🤔
  2. Don’t do it🤔, it’s a dangerous practice and will end in tears. More than a few beavers have been caught out in the past😳
  3. Your only saying that cos it’s green🤓. As Mick says you’d have to be Peter Crouch🤔, the hoppers far too high( actually I’ve noticed hoppers are getting higher on chippers these days, if the designers actually used the chipper as its intended they’d go back to the old Timberwolf 150s type🤔) it might be ok for a bit of Laurel like he’s got in the picture, it looks like that could of been it’s maiden voyage because the setup looks rather new😳, if he was feeding complete 4/5 inch stems into it all day he might change his thoughts🤔. A nice looking trailer though with three way tipping( 4 if you want to tip onto the drawbar😳)
  4. This was on another thread back in 2015? Looks to me the chipper on the back had a self contained motor and didn’t run off the gearbox. It was about for sometime after that show with it appearing on eBay a few times.
  5. Have you just looked because I reckon your a few weeks behind the squirrels, jays and other critters. Some of my trees were loaded this year, some had none. Either way they were all cleaned up weeks ago🤔
  6. As someone as already said - the bigger the pieces the more movement you’ll get. I would season before you plane as it will move when drying out. You’d have to get it down to 10/12 % moisture content before working which would be difficult in your part of the world🤔, kiln drying is the way to go. Then machine. Stack it in the room for a couple of weeks to acclimatise before fixing. The thicker your boards the more stable it would be. Consider sealing ends of boards with bitumen/ or similar ? To slow down the drying process and therefore cracking? I was told about 40 odd years ago that quality oak for building manor houses etc for the landed gentry was left in the wood yard for at least 20 years before being used - then it was seasoned🤔, not sure how true that was, only they could afford to have wood hanging around for so long🙄
  7. There was a defender 110 on eBay several years ago with I think a Timberwolf mounted on the back🤔could be a good option for some jobs, especially if towing a bulk sided tipper trailer🤔
  8. In past winters on dark dreary days I didnt realise they could of been BT cables🤔, several times I’ve come across cables during the clean up and thought we had probably dropped the trees on old washing lines😳
  9. Obviously a competition thing. If your eye site is failing and you can’t see who’s your best climber get yourself along to specsavers- other opticians are available🤔
  10. It should of been made clear on the visit/ quoting stage what was expected from both yourself and the contractor. A professional contractor would of pointed out any possible damage to you and informed you of what measures they intended to take to minimise damage. If he was informed at that stage that it was possible some of the whips could be taken out for the length of the job then maybe it could make the job easier by increasing the drop zone area and therefore possibly a cheaper quote🤔. When the tree is lowered the price is lifted🤔. Anything that can be moved out of potential harms way should be moved. I’ve lost count of the amount of flower pots, planters, trampolines I’ve moved even though the client said they would move them🙄.
  11. I wouldn’t bother spending any money on parts such as seats just to sell it. You’ve already done the best thing by putting it through the MOT. Someone will buy thinking they’ll improve it to their requirement. Until they realise a nice pair of seats could be £200 min, solid straight doors 3-500 a piece, straight bonnet 150, straight complete wings 300 each, cab roof 300, carpet set 150, alloy wheels with mud terrains 1500, professional paint job on LR front(not tipper) 750 min. What I’m saying is it would cost a small fortune to bring that Land Rover up to show pony standard and it’s still going to fetch probably £9000 - £12000 min as it is😳
  12. Why not? I know they stopped builders being self employed and working full time for the same contractor years ago but believe this isn’t the case anymore🤔. What’s to stop a Arb/ forestry/ fencing contractor working for numerous clients employing sub contractors? Who says so? Not saying your wrong, just curious to know the requirements. Some cracking stuff on your Facebook site by the way👍.
  13. So it’s 2nd hand you want🤔. I thought your price comparison was initially a big difference. The best of luck making any sense of the 2nd hand market. Big differences from dealer to dealer or private, high hours/ low hours makes no difference the prices are a lottery and there is no correlation or scaling between age, hours, tidy or scruffy and it’s worse over the last 18 months with delivery times for new machines being extended and blamed on steel and component suppliers - and that’s the same for whatever piece of plant you want to purchase chippers, trailer and mini diggers etc. I think the bottom line is you decide what chipper you would like, scan the market, and go for a gut decision on age, condition, hours, service history and dealer/ back up for spares and if it’s what you want - compare the market meerkats don’t have a place in plant and equipment. Auction prices are fetching stupid money with most equipment selling unseen with decisions made from crap photos and very brief descriptions - no attending in person 😳. Because of delivery times on new kit prices are going up for 2nd hand kit over the last 18 months and look set to keep climbing.
  14. Is that not known as “pippy oak”, surely worth a few quid as it sits there🤔a nice looking piece of timber.
  15. If all the bits look intact It’s got to be £130 in parts alone as there’s plenty of blokes about still running them. I’d go for it. Make them an offer. You might even get it running correctly and be able to use it.
  16. What is she a client for🤔, doesn’t look like there’s much tree work been done there unless your waiting for the big job to come off😳. Just imagine living next to her😫. Known in the past as a neighbour from hell? And still relevant today. As far as the neighbour not being too bothered with the hedge being stripped back to the stems🤔of course they do! It’s a bloody eyesore but what are the neighbours meant to do? Allow it to overgrow on their side like she as! How does she manage to see the birds? They’ve got a jungle to hide in. Interestingly the phots are from next door and the road? Is she still isolating or just a recluse😳. That so called hedge needs to come down, pure and simple.
  17. BUMP🤔 so what was the outcome with this🤔 I run one and just wondered if there’s any improvements that could be made.
  18. That looks very nice👍. As the cab suffered from the rust worm or was it solid before painting. I have an old Ag spec U900 which I intend to rebuild one day🤔
  19. So the client called the pest control and you stirred them up and dispersed them into the general area before they arrived🤔. Bet they were right chuffed with that🙄
  20. Yes councils can be good place for contributing towards your training but these are looking for someone that’s trained and the rate they’re paying is only just over minimum pay as far as I can calculate it🤔. But I might be wrong of course🤓.
  21. “Chainsaw operator” required🤔. After 4 pages of nil response- not for a tenner an hour anyway I bet he’s glad he asked🤓. Don’t think there would of been as many posts if he had offered £600 a day😳. £600 a day😳, what type of people are paying that up there? The reputation that the Scottish are tight is totally without merit🤔
  22. Making up a sandwich layer is exactly the way to go. Line your sheds and containers like this as well. Multiple layers such as mesh, steel sheet, rockwool, fibre cement sheet, plywood in fact the more the better. If you can have some air gaps and inner layers loose so they move about it will make it harder to cut🤔. Any internal secondary cages should be solid on the outside and not mesh so that casual observers such as the postman, delivery drivers, necky scrap collectors can’t see whats inside if you’ve got the outside door open when you’ve dropped your guard. I know most of us do it for speed of loading/ unloading, maintenance and accounting for kit but having all your kit neatly layed out on shelves doesn’t help our cause either as they can see exactly what you’ve got and just go for the expensive stuff! Newish 880 or old Stihl Farm Boss🤔 - it won’t be the old one that still there in the morning. My main daily use saws are the 261, 442 and 150 and 261. The spare 261 and 150, 362, 660 and 880 are well hidden and a pain in the arse to dig out for loading. If it’s a pain for me then it’s a pain for the tea leaves. Any good physical security is a pain for us. back up any hard wired alarms with cheap wireless baby/ garden shed type alarms. just my thought on “guard” dogs - I would not expose any dog of mine (and looking at the dogs on this thread I doubt if you would) to the chance of being poisoned/ injured/ killed as she is more valuable to me than all my saws - I can replace my saws🤔, in fact between you and me my dog is more valuable to me than the wife😳. 5 mins of her giving them ear ache they’d soon bring her back and probably apologise😳. Lots of good ideas on this thread and others in other threads.
  23. Exactly as Daltontrees says👍. This wall was unlikely to of been built that far out of plumb. As a rule of thumb if a wall is a third of its width out of vertical(or more) it should be considered potentially dangerous even without the cracks and dislodged walling stones? and should be surveyed and the fault rectified. It will have to be dismantled down to sound walling and rebuilt. The soil behind would have to be cut back as obviously work space is required. Without knowing the wall thickness but taking a guess 🤔 it’s probably a combination of insufficient thickness, poor mortar, overloading of fill behind the wall and the tree🤭 A substantial RC wall with a facing would have to be probably thicker than existing and with little room to encroach onto what looks like a public pavement the tree will probably have to go😢. The tree won’t continue to flourish without the wall! As openspace says - if that wall fails the Heras fencing won’t stop Jack😳 Whoever has put this in place thinking it solves the problem is plain and simply wrong. Just a logical thought process as to what would happen if: (risk assessment )🤔would tell you that If the wall was to fail somebody could get seriously injured or worse! What if it was your children, grandchildren walking past? The council cannot refuse the tree removal once the run away train comes down the hill in their direction with the risk to the public safety down to them 😳.
  24. Some of those registered will be out to dob you in to the authorities😳. It was a few of the big producers who lobbied government in the first place in an attempt to monopolise the industry🤔. You didn’t think the government come up with this idea all on their own did you🤔.
  25. You won’t get a freely given apology off these characters🤔. With some of these organisations they start out with good intentions and it evolves into something where their own egos become more important than what they’re trying to protect. They become a secret society and think they can do what they want and are answerable to no one🤔
