Strange new twist in hiring staff.
dan blocker replied to Mick Dempsey's topic in Business Management
I have to keep going back to the original post because I keep thinking it’s jumping posts🤔started with hiring staff and it’s evolved to price of lumber, rugby, warranty on a chipper, New Zealand, Berkshire( Berkshire - now we’re getting desperate🙄) micro loaders. Permission to post on Olympic Equestrian Dressage and how I’m looking forward to it😳. -
The Cat can smell of eggs when still in good order, what’s your daily mileage like? May be just wants a good run out. Exhaust exits at the rear of vehicle doesn’t it? with air intake somewhere up the front so I doubt exhaust fumes are coming in through the air intake 🤔- unless your reversing everywhere cos you can’t find a forward gear😳. Have you got a pollen filter? They should be changed at least annually, also I believe some manufacturer main dealers clean out the air intake side with a anti-bacterial spray. Start with the cheaper solutions before changing cat because as you say they’re stupid prices.

Someone’s made a freedom of information request to Gloucestershire Constabulary about the original post, good on him. They’ve got 21 days to reply but could take longer because COVID as given them the excuse to take their time and treat the public with utter contempt 🤔.Will be interesting to see what tosh they come back with. Read Restorative justice on the Gloucester Constabulary web site🙄. Another load of cotton wool, kid gloves, hug a hoody bull😫. Wonder how many extra civilians they’ve taken on to administer that department🤔

I would not trust any raptor group😳. What better way to find out where and with what protection the Goshawks/ falcons are etc by infiltrating a volunteer group. If anti’s can infiltrate hunt groups, coppers infiltrate anti’s then I’m sure a crook selling young can infiltrate a raptor group🤔. The bloke in the picture looks like he may have flip line. They’re not out walking that’s for sure. They’re defiantly going equipped to do something. Cracking photo’s, good camera positioning, pass the info to the local police, just make sure it’s not the wildlife crimes officer as they will only call them in for a voluntary interview and give them Restorative Justice with a £100 fine🤔

What machinery is best to move stuff on a slope
dan blocker replied to Slad's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
Always great to see horses working but I would of thought extracting up hill on a 1:1 is a non starter and downhill stopping the timber overtaking the horse much the same. If the OP is just extracting enough wood for his own use and is obviously happy felling, snedding and converting wind blown/ dead/ dying timber across the site then consider getting someone in for a day with a decent winch setup to extract what’s on the ground. Speak to them first and agree in what form the trees are left in because they’d be better winched out in pole form to a landing. I would generally winch uphill on steep ground to maintain control. Many moons ago when working for my father particularly with chestnut on steep ground the bigger poles were converted where they fell and put on a sledge and winched out or if really steep ground the whole pole was converted and thrown/ rolled downhill by hand😳, ball aching but character building stuff apparently🤔. Machines, kit and techniques have moved on but the basics are there to fall back on. -
Funny how when someone says “have a drink and phone a mate” can be spun into “ get pissed and phone a mate”🤔 and then say alcohol is a depressant. And then get quoted throughout the thread. There’s nothing wrong with a few drinks and if that’s what it takes to loosen the tongue, pick up the phone and ring a mate to talk to him then surely that’s a good thing. The problem with “having a problem” is actually making that first step to talk to someone be it a wife or husband, partner, mate, parent, friend or professional health type or what ever! We’ve all had an issue of some sort or other(or several) in our lifetime that’s caused some sort of anxiety or low point. People have different ways of dealing with issues. Christ I’ve even had a view issues that’s resulted in a high - not the chemical type I might add! There’s another thread on here somewhere that talks about and goes over the same issues. just to lighten things up a bit - hopefully🤔- Women can be a big source of depression especially when it ends in divorce, I’m still on my first wife because I’m a firm believer that even though you think at the moment she’s a crocodile you could get rid of it for a better one that turns out to be a bloody alligator😳

Things you used to say ironically that you now say a lot.

I was walking along a street in London and decided to cross the road and go to a truckers cafe for a fry up. It must of been about 1996🤔 because I had just left the marines. As I was about to go across the pedestrian crossing these two rough looking types in a dirty old tranny pulled up to let me cross. The old one wolf whistled and shouted something at me🤔 the young one just smiled and asked for my no😳 -
“Crappy trees to climb”🤔 probably why you have to cut the tree down to get to the young if your not a climber🤔. The underside of the nest is armoured against shot🤔. Just my thoughts on it!

An estate on the outskirts of Gloucester ? Well it wasn’t a council estate was it🤔. Carried out by the farm labourer? Was the keeper busy elsewhere? The only tree in the wood to be felled and removed at that time🤔 and it also happened to have a Goshawk nest in it🤔. Wonder if it was a shooting estate? A Goshawk is a rare , highly protected schedule 1 bird, why do we bother with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981🤔 any other time this would of been considered to be serious. I won’t bother leaving a pigeon nesting again holding up the job because on a sliding scale compared to a Goshawk the fine will only be about a fiver🙄 The bloke should of been charged, he got off lightly with a £100 fine and not being charged. Restorative Justice was not introduced for this type of crime. The estate probably paid the fine anyway. Chief Constable is probably a Masonic mate of the estate owner.

Scout camp in an Ash wood land?
dan blocker replied to benedmonds's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
Wild camping as got to be good for the kids but you mention that “there as always been a lot of deadwood” Ben😳. We all know that woodlands can never be 100% safe but surely the scouts should carry out a risk assessment for these activities and try to minimise the risk. Deadwood turning into deadfall poses a significant risk to the kids safety and so in my opinion there should be a management plan for that woodland. I remember an old soldier telling me years ago about an incident in Malaya in the 60s when they lost a member of their platoon when a piece of deadfall landed on his bivi in the middle of the night. Perhaps the scout ambassador Bear Grylls can shin up a few trees with his Swiss Army knife and deadwood them🤔 -
You’ll be up the tree for the start but I presume you’ll be back on the ground for the end game🤔. The final tidy up will be a pain with a garden laid out like that. If I had a small chipper that would be the answer as others have said, contain the mess around the tree. Also cuts out the problem of blown/ stray wood chip on the chaps gravel drive😳

Post is a bit cuckoo if you ask me🤔

I started in the early 70s with a Stihl 08s without a chain brake Mr Stubby so we may have started around the same time. I don’t abide by all the teaching, rules and regs either as the day would not be so productive. so the OP now as enough experience having read a dozen posts on a forum does he/ she?🤔I think not.
-
I don’t think you would pass any chainsaw course if you didn’t apply the chain brake first before starting🤔. What you do yourself of course is entirely up to you but telling someone not to use the chain brake when starting when evidently they appear to lack experience is wrong🤔.

Well said that man👍Just been reading another thread about a bogged in MEWP and he’s done the same all the way through that😫. Haven’t seen him contribute anything of any relevance, just trying to be funny and taking the P.

Being financed by Ineos. Sorry, can’t do a link Steve but there’s a previous thread from September 2019.

It’s rumoured that Mitsubishi and Nissan pickups won’t be available new in the UK from early next year🤔. That leaves only Ford, Toyota and Isuzu as choices for a new truck. I believe the Ssangyong Musso is also still available but possibly not for much longer?) , also with the possibility of the “French Grenadier” if that ever gets produced. They’re all over priced as it is so will be interesting to see how competitive the prices are with less competition? I think we know where the Grenadier prices will be!

There are several Oak trees in the UK reported to be 800 years or older🤔. With the one on this thread appearing to be 2 - 3 ft diameter the UK ones can be 2 or 3 times that diameter. Obviously the heat in Portugal doesn’t promote vigorous growth.

As far as I understand there won’t be Red diesel available to buy anywhere, only what we know as white. The rumours have been doing the rounds for several years so none of this is new. It’s assumed agriculture and forestry will be able to claim the tax back(or most of it🤔) As someone as already mentioned diesel stolen from farm tanks, tractors and big plant as been made more attractive for the thieves. At least with red if by the unlikely chance a transit was pulled by the police and found to have red in the tank it was taken off the road🤔

If you’ve had an MRI scan and diagnosed with bulging disc presume it was on the NHS ? Why was it not followed up by them? Get back to your doctor and get back in the queue and persevere with them as they are probably best placed to eventually sort it(unless you’ve got private health insurance. Because this is likely to take months if not years as others have suggested at the same time you could also find a good(recommended!) Osteopath or Chiropractor (but don’t tell the NHS🤔) and see if they can put their finger on the problem - literally 😳. I had a problem with a lower back pain before Christmas and was recommended an Osteopath. After 40 mins with her going through my aches and pain history she literally put her fingers onto the exact point of the pain. After about 20 mins of her pulling my knees up, bending me in all directions etc😳 she said that was all? Didn’t book a follow up cos said none were needed🤔 went away and within a couple of days it had disappeared. Be careful of those who book a load of appointments as you’ll become part of their gravy train🤔. Generally if you can get an appointment straight away be suspicious? If you have to wait a month to be seen that’s probably recommendation enough🤔unless they’re on holiday in the Caribbean🙄?

Looking at the spec of this Fog machine it takes 4 minutes to warm up🤔, could be too late by then? That’s the problem with most of these machines.
