  1. I was gonna say that, that the sense of satisfaction must be great after finishing your trailer build...
  2. I think he mean't safer, not can't be bothered to learn... For me, I think if you really want to understand climbing techniques, then you have to plow a lot of time into Utube.. Little by little bits seem to sink in... I mean if you aren't actually a working arborist that is.. Look at me for example, never so much as touched a proper climbers rope till the back end of last summer, I've gone from learning how to body thrust up a single rope, to now, where I'm having a stab at SRT... I even ruminated on that two rope thread, thinking that might be a better/safer way to go... I do have the advantage of a couple of tree's to practice on though... But the point is, you can condense years of experience into months or weeks if you have a mind to...
  3. I'd guess, just shy of whats needed LOL...
  4. Had a lot of trouble over the winter with my Transit.. couldn't work out why near every morning it was dead as a doornail.. Turns out batteries only last so long so replacing them every three to fours years is always a good idea... Instead of walking over to ma van with gritted teeth in the morn, I now get in it without a thought other than what I got in it for in the first place... And, to think I'd spent most of the Winter fumigating for want of a new battery... I could of kicked maself after I changed that battery...
  5. Reg Coats went for the Stihl 150 over the battery powered Husky.. Though he did like the Husky one, just too expense for what it does... [ame] [/ame]
  6. Sorry you put a new pic up as I was writing my piece LOL...
  7. looks like you did a good job, you should put a few more pics up though.. As it happens, I've been on a trailer hunt myself, but can't make my mind up what to go for... A tipper?... Flatbed.. general purpose?....one day one sort seems like it might just be the ticket, then I wake up next day wondering why I ever thought such a dumb idea was ever worth considering.. Even thought of building my own but know full well how it would end.... half finished project put on hold awaiting my next bout of enthusiasm... Anyways, well done of building your own...
  8. OH, so your using a coupla of lowering devices to keep it in position as you work it?... wondered what GRC's meant... anyways, good luck an all that, be sure to post a coupla pics as you progress...
  9. On a utube vid, a tree like this fell on a house, they built an A frame to support the trunk as they worked on the branches... Now, let me be clear, I only do smallish to medium tree work, an even that's intermittent.. But its what I'd do, thick A frame so it don't fall or twist out of position as you work the upper branches.... once they're out the way, just lop it off at the bottom.... I know its easy to say how I'd do it though, but the truth is, I'd of drove to the job, looked and told em to get someone else LOL....
  10. Good one, could try that.... Then again..... ruminating on the concept, one piece of rope one pair of ladders and one shed.. weather permitting of course:thumbup1:
  11. Nice vid, good use of drone as well... whats that little gizmo you have for picking up the logs an stuff?... looks pretty useful..
  12. Nicely worded, felt like I was reading a chapter of some adventure book... Reg, I told you last time I contributed on your other thread about worrying about crashing.... Now thats out the way, its part two upcoming.. How you was chased through the forest by a pack of killer bears.... Keep your GoPro ready so you share the experience with us Oh an one last thing, why is it you remind me of one of the characters in Game of thrones?...
  13. Whats disgusting is people pay for bottled water at all..well, not so much disgusting as mind boggling really... As to milk prices....many farmers having gained their farms through inheritance and don't have the capital costs or rents some farmers do... they can stand the price of production of milk being lower than someone buying or renting... So, maybe its those farmers selling cheap you aught be disgusted with?..maybe... Going back to Inversion tables or dangling from a pair of gravity boots, not sure I fancy dangling all day or lying inverted on a table... Having said that, anythings worth a try, perhaps I can rig something up without going to the expense of buying anything to test the theory...
  14. The truth of the matter is one thing on its own don't do nothin special to recover from a days workout/working day... A balanced diet, maybe a couple of glasses of wine to relax and wind down at the end of the day and good nights sleep is all you'll ever need... all the rest is BS.... Now to matters of more importance, how in hells bells does one cure an aching back, mines getting on my nerves.... Silky Fox,,,,,think on the positive side, your less likely to develop prostrate cancer, not that its cheery news, but its something at least...
  15. Yea, send us a PM when your about to chop it up, I live about five minutes away from there...
  16. wheres the job at?..... I could send my mate up and see if he wants any of the wood...
  17. Does this mean stihl chains ain't much better than the run of the mill, or these cheap chains are only always (lets say) 80% as good as the best?... which begs the question, why not buy half a dozen of these instead of top brands?....
  18. those gloves look like my shoes just before I geta new pair LOL... Rob D....who's that fella on your avatar, looks familiar...
  19. why not ask a local farmer if you tip a bit of stuff somewhere out of site on his land?.. or ask a few of your fellow gardeners where they tip off...
  20. how come that laptop's not fell off?....
  21. Thanks, nothin like an expert opinion.. I'll be giving some serious thought to getting one now.....
  22. You seem to know your stuff, whats the best 21 inch mower around, I'm thinking of getting a new one.. I don't want a roller mower, just a a solid good mower...... I've had two honda 21 inch, gearbox's gone in both....seething,,
  23. have you considered parts and spares, luckily for me I don't live to far away from a Stihl/Honda dealership... so parts and getting my equipment fixed are not a problem... Another thing you might consider, is getting as big a mower as you can brand new, and look around for cheap second hand small one for the hard to reach jobs... getting up steps an such... or better still, don't do jobs that might involves to much faffing about to get to....
  24. amazing what you get to find out on arbtalk...
  25. Seems my GG grandfather died on the opposite end of the spectrum.. he was a tunneler and most likely died digging undergound... LOL's what I can't believe is he was 47 at the time....
