  1. Maybe some Manchester gansta's put a rival through it and left it in a layby in hopes someone will dispose of the evidence..
  2. here and there I've used a farm jack to get trunks out the ground, smallish ones up to a foot in diameter.. I was thinking of getting a tirfor winch or similar to do the same... Will they work for that if set up properly?...
  3. After eating all that, I'd need a cup of coffee and a nap... As to me, I start my day trying to put it off hahaha
  4. after reading some of the suggestions on here I thought I'd give my old rayburn another go.. didn't do anything to it just seen if it would work as it sometimes does.. lit a bit of cardboard in the fire, threw on a bunch of kindling, two minutes later couldn't see a thing for smoke.... back in the middle room with the open fire when the smoke cleared... Seems like I need a new set up.....
  5. If I had the patience I'd cobble something like a fan somewhere and blow the smoke up the chimney till the chimney gets a little heated. might work, its somethin I've thought on!!..
  6. I've got the same problem with the woodstove I have.. its so bad I refuse to light the damn thing for fear of smoking me out.. I tried to work out why it happened and the only thing I could think was atmospherics. it usually happens on damp days.. Seein as the winters on its way I'll have to start using it again, not looking forward to that... But I will be reading this thread with interest to see if anyones got any idea's.
  7. Timber cutter dartmoor The bigger picture is not the Euro and how it affects the pond, but an agreement by the developed countries not to devalue currency to gain an economic advantage.. see what happened when China took that step a month or two ago... the markets got the jitters... Thers a big picture here and its all about trying to get out of a crisis without bringing down the worlds economies.. Believe me, the crisis that began in 07 is still with us today, and its been something of a puzzle how we're eventually gonna get out of it.. meanwhile everyone is doing their bit to keep things as calm as they can.. That includes the Pound Euro monetary policy, that keeps both in lockstep with each other... as best as can be managed anyways..
  8. Nice vid...
  9. did I not say the pound euro fluctuates, and if it fluctuates too much the banks intervene?.. In that sense the pound "is" tied to the Euro.. I mean, when was the Euro worth 3 quid?.... as to speculators even they don't have the clout they once did, and they know it. Hows someone with a billion going to attempt to manipulate as asset with the backing of trillions... and I don't know why eddy Stobart isn't taking any more chip, but I suspect government policy might just be looking at scaling back investment in bio power industry.. Its not like burning woodchip is ever going to compete with coal or oil powered generators is it...
  10. err I'm afraid it is... it might not seem obvious but believe you me it is... you might want to find a graph of Pound Euro fluctuations and look at any correlation between the two, I suspect you'll find they fluctuate together.. and when they do fluctuate, its being tweaked to get both currencies back on an even keel... how else do you expect British Business to compete with their European partners if their currencies are all over the place.. Heres how it works, one of the two currencies falls or rises against the other, the banks intervene and either spend or sell to get back to equilibrium .. one of the advantages of being in Europe see...stability..
  11. I don't think that's likely at all, the pound is linked to the euro..
  12. Well I haven't got one but I have looked at it as I too am thinking of getting a little chipper.. The only thing that puts me off this one is the price, I mean its so much cheaper than its rivals I tend to think there might be a reason for it.. I've looked at all these so called mini chippers and umed an arred over all of em I'm near worn out on the subject.. But If I save a couple of thousand over the winter I might just get one of those Haeskler thingies.. they look the business.. I fancy joining the wee chipper on here see !!!
  13. You're onto to something here, the connection betwixt oil and the climate change agenda.. There's gonna be a day when oil is gonna start bottoming out were no more oil can be found, extracted at a sustainable cost... So what oil we have has to be husbanded to prolong that supply.. Tax on fuel, alternative energy, just two ruses to keep the oil train from running off the tracks... Link the increasing cost of fuel to climate change and you have a moral argument to keep critics quiet. So for me, at least, climate change isn't about climate change so much as it is about trying to manage an upcoming problem that needed to be addressed. Figuring out how economies can operate in a future starved of resources..
  14. Oh I see, so its a win win situation in that case, gamble everything it don't matter as we'll subsidize your loss... I don't like it at all... perhaps I should look into it myself, see if your not missing something. It don't seem right to get to win twice over..
  15. Yea it sort of does in a way, and yet it doesn't... If it was invested through the courts and made a loss..... bit ambiguous that, in what sense is the loss in this regards?.. stolen, criminal negligence.. or just invested and the market tanked?...
  16. I'm not with you, are you saying if this woman burned her money on a fire, she could claim it all back?....
  17. What she should of done is opened a small business to learn the ropes, and if she had a knack for it looked at getting into something bigger... The last thing she should of done is put money into a sink hole in the city of London...
  18. I'd love to see a TV expose' of some typical stockbrokers, see how they make their decisions.. What to buy, when to buy, what they know and don't know... I'll hazard a guess most throw a hundred grand on an option then cross their fingers they ain't just blown someone's retirement nest egg.. or maybe they just throw money everywhere in a Bull market sell everything in a Bear market... Its not rocket science when you think of it, its a matter of timing, knowing when the proverbial is gonna hit the fan.. oops, the FED has just increased interest rates, everybody sell... Oh dear!!!..
  19. I'll offer some good advice on shares... get your money on oil stocks when the price of oil is low, it can't go much lower than it is now so maybe it might (be careful) be a good time to invest if your into that sort of thing.. Can't say I'm interested myself, unless you can manipulate the markets, you're basically at the mercy of those that can, and do... good luck betting on those terms...
  20. If you factor in Ocean currents, El Nino's volcanic eruptions sun spot activity and other not so obvious variables it might then be useful take a look at tree growth cycles... but, only if you can compare todays cycles to photographic evidence from, Oh, lets say from ten thousand years back... which is to say I don't think anything useful can be deduced from photos of leaves on tree's.. Though I dare say its a bit of speculative fun if nothing else.. Oh, I wouldn't like anyone to use pics of tree's as evidence to jack up the price of diesel though, though I dare say some political numpties would do it... any excuse an all that!!!.
  21. I have an interesting opinion on climate change... which is to say, whether its man made natural or a bit of both such is the scale of the problem (if it even is a problem) nothing much can be done about it... But governments can use the issue for their own reasons.... tax on fuel and subsidizing alternative energy.. So the underlining questions should be, why are governments around the world spending billions on alternative energy... once you figure that out, you'll see why climate change is always in the headlines..
  22. Cornish Wood Burner.. Good point on the safety front, I never thought of that... like I said, experimental stage, learn as you go along an all that..
  23. trani pickup truck.. any condition, if it drives it'll do.. chainsaw from car boot, fix it at your leisure.. rope?..... OK buy a bit of rope from the climbing centre harness equipment?....ratchet strap tied round waist a couple of times thence round tree... a good pair of loppers... you'll be using these a lot... chipper?... that can wait till you have a bit of money... rule of thumb, only take on jobs that allow for two return trips to dispose of waste cuttings.... Oh an don't be doing any tree work if tree is above guttering of house.... This method has served me well when called upon... cheap as chips, gets the job done..
  24. I've bin burning some woodchip on my open fire tonight, more to regulate the use of what little normal wood I have at present.. stretch it out so to speak.... If I throw a good pile on last thing, its enough to keep a little heat in the room till the morning.... But its at an experimental stage at present, I might give it up when I get more proper wood to burn..
