  1. Yea, gonna get one come spring.. at the moment I' just learning some of the basics.. I haven't even hoisted myself up a tree yet LOL.. Although I have occasionally done the odd tree, I used ladders and climbed up the rest holding onto the branches for dear life..
  2. Well, its been a fascinating read this thread has.. I started off thinking, (No way would I ever buy one of those death traps).. then ruminated on the possible reasons why this zigzag thing might of failed. I put it down to user miss use, then thought, well maybe not, maybe production faults on the metals used. stress built up during production of some but not all products.. Then Mark Skyland turns up and explains all.. Not a death trap after all, maybe I should get one one day.. Anyways, I'm now reassured about this zigzag prusic, which is a total 180degree turn from were I started when I turned up to read it earlier yesterday..
  3. I had one of these types some time back, made out I might be some mug and kept him talking for half hour then just hung up... Phone went a minute later, same fella telling me he hoped I burned in a fire... hahahah... gave him a mouthfull an told him what I thought of his shady job.. usually though, I just hang up..
  4. for one job!!!... you sayin you don't intend using it after the jobs finished?.... If it ain't eatin nothin, might as well keep it..
  5. been watchin loads of utube vids on climbing in the last few days, started off looking into fliplines then went onto climbing gear... Amazing whats out there, if I ever did a tree in the past it was me an a bit of rachet strap to tie in. After watching all these vids I intend getting some gear, if not for doin tree's then just for the fun of it.. But heres what I came across this afternoon.. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cp7eZDEKFOM[/ame] he uses a rope runner on his set up..
  6. I've a good theory on this problem.. Give women £150 a week for their first child, then 70 for the second.. 30 for a third, then none thereafter... find a mechanism to drive down rents and morgage costs and pretty soon everyones gonna be happier.. Apart from city institutions that is, they like to see house price inflation as it inflates the value of their assets..
  7. the fella reminds me of the horse girls up here... they'll move heaven and high water before they'll empty two barrows, why bother when you can fill one right up to the top so you can inch your way to the midden.. Havin said that, when the world goes to hell in a handcart, this is the sort of fella you want..
  8. LolerUK Interesting stuff, like I said I' not an expert, but I'd like to know what criteria manufacturers use to mark their products end of use dates... Five years seem to get mentioned a lot... Is it based on sampling users who buy their equipment and finding most seem to replace at that date?.. or is it just a number that seems that it aught be about right?... I mean, I'd be putting more stock on investigating the end user as much as the manufacturer. Is this the type of fella to send a young lad up a tree with a thirty year old oily rope.. This ones the kind of fella who has his men tie off in three places before they get out the van
  9. common sense says stay off the grass if its wet, been raining.. I expect you quoted for dragging the tree after felling, so do what you bin paid for...
  10. Sandpiper Get on gumtree or ebay, see whats about.. find somethin you think you can mod in some way if it ain't exactly what your looking for... Its all about compromises, price over function.. I'd stick with the none braked trailers if I was you as well, less to go wrong.. less hassle all round.. If somethin you wanted to fit in it, don't fit in it, so what.. price over function... remind yourself you saved a couple of grand by havin the trailer you got... ask yourself, is it worth spending two thousand pounds to move this fat arsed couch?..
  11. seems to me after reading through this thread thats whats being got at is what an insurance company demands if theres a claim... Has the tackle been inspected by someone qualified?... better be on the safe side an all that!!!... Now I'm no expert, but if you inspect it yourself and test it out in safe conditions, it don't matter if its fifty or five years old... If it works, use it... I mean, what kind of moron discards a perfectly good piece of kit because some health and safety crank wants to cover every inch of ground..
  12. You can read this and get yourself worked up if you want.. Its Britain's projected growth rate over the next 25 years. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/1c924e00-7e25-11e5-a1fe-567b37f80b64.html#axzz3pyvAp7km And don't think anythins gonna be done about it, because this is one of those hidden agenda's your talking about..
  13. someones getting in a pickle over nothin.. Describe your product as, Bulk Bag of ?, aprox weight X aprox Volume Y.. nothin worse than getting a bulk bag of somethin and end up feeling you've spent good money on air..
  14. Bit of minefield looing at trailers in it sandpiper You want them to be all things for all occasions, I gave up on looking for a low to the ground caged sides easy to take apart robust and rot proof trailoer.. I ended up biting the bullet and fixing my 750KG Lider up.. seen more work from my mates than me over the years.. anyways I ended up rigging a winch to the chassis so I can winch my Eliet shredder up on the odd occasion.. Its now back to doin what it usually does, sitting around waiting on a days work...
  15. I can't stand other peoples annoying habits, its why I work on my own.. but, if I do get someone in, and they annoy, they don't stay long... heres how I see it, I've my own shortcomings to put up with, I don't see why I should add to them by hiring in more agro...
  16. if I was nearby, an the old dear looked concerned, I'd of done it for nowt but a brew. It wouldn't be the first time I've done a favour for someone.. A pair of loppers chop chop chop. done an dusted in five minutes flat.. and I'd of carried off any rubbish, an not left it for her to pick up.. Theres more to this life than getting money out of someone.. But, if I sensed the old girl was tryin to get a sneaky one in, get it done on my good nature, then I might of charged fifteen quid.. Oh, I don't have a mortgage so having her pay for that don't come into it LOL..
  17. If it was local, an I was busy across the road, I'd of done it for a cup of tea...an a chat... Put the work down in my Karma account....
  18. Treequip Good idea, then again every time I buy some backy, its always the last pack before I give up... been giving up for years now...
  19. err not sure about late payment what about underpayments?.. went to the shop for a pack of backy last week and was asked if I'd move a bit of their crap from upstairs.. obviously seen my pickup an all.. loaded up first load an told her I wanted sixty quid, "knowing they like to haggle I'd of settled for fifty at a push.. Anyways, she pulled her face a bit then said she'd settle when the job was done.. two more loads over the next few days, then payment time.. Her son pops out with forty quid..... WTF is that I say!!!.. Oh she says, I am getting divorce, he useless, don't do nothing. leave me in a right mess... You good man, you understand!!!.. Oh well, what can you do, some you win, some you lose... Next time I go to the shop for some backy, I'm goin on my bike...
  20. I'd get a stihl combi.. mostly because they can fix it if it needs fixing at some point. That's if theres a stihl dealer nearby, there is near me!!!.. I tend to look at the petrol tank as well, the bigger the better, nothing worse than stopping every ten minutes to fill up.. As to a pole saw, I haven't got one of those but I'd get a standalone one, save wear and tear on the combi..
  21. Funny this thread, reading from start to finish to see the mood suddenly change.. These chippers have gone from something the magic fairy gave you in one breath, cuts this that and anything in between.. built like a tank, mows the competition down... Can't fault it, everybody get one.... Then like kryptonite to superman, oil filters are mentioned. Be careful, be sure to do it right, measure the timing like your life depends on it, 21, no twenty.. twenty hours exactly do it at twenty and you'll live another day... Funny stuff
  22. Might be an idea to buy a welder and watch a few utube vids on how its done.. But don't do what I did last year, welded all the wheel arches inside and out amongst other things, then inspected the chassis only to find its got more rust than metal under there... three days of cutting and welding sheet metal for nothing, well, apart from the practice LOL..
  23. I expect its the culture from which other immigrants come.. Pakistan Bangladesh Africa, I'd think most want to find work but a lot struggle On the other hand, European migrants are better educated and possess a work ethic even most English struggle to keep up with.. does that answer your question?
  24. He went to the trouble of posting a pic, why be so harsh.. and anyway, how do you know it wasn't only done for the day for work in some farmers field, who's gonna see it then and pass judgement.. Maybe he was flat broke, maybe he ain't got stacks of cash to throw around.. Maybe we got to start somewhere with less.. Maybe you aught to keep your opinions to yourself..
  25. It ain't so bad for first go.
