  1. Bloody hell, I thought I had spelt this out, there are more than 1 ignition unit, get the part no. off the rear of the flywheel, tell me what it is and I will give you the part no. of the unit you need, you can lead a horse to water.
  2. Told you it was the coil!
  3. Ignition unit, be aware there more than one type, to get the correct unit first time remove the flywheel, on the underside will be the part no. of the flywheel, you then go to the parts list that shows that flywheel and use the ignition unit from that list.
  4. Swede o matic was designed in the gun shop, based on a gun trigger mechanism, just a bit of trivia.
  5. Very unfair to say dealers just making money, this is all about emissions, i suspect we would all like to go back to 162 and 254, but this is no longer acceptable, anti tamper carb screws were tried but people got round that, semi fixed jet carbs were tried, but these were temperamental in certain conditions, so here we are, no more tampering by quite frankly by operators who had no idea what they were doing.
  6. Next few days, what the hell are they doing to it!
  7. Low jet one and half turns out, high jet one and quarter turns out, there should be no further adjustment unless there is something wrong with it.
  8. May have been interesting to see what the carb settings were off the old carb. lets see what an ignition unit does keep us posted.
  9. No not really, just turn the pump right down to number 1 position and that is it, if you fill both fuel and oil tank up and run it in the log pile, does it run out of fuel before it runs out of oil?
  10. Short answer is no, the oil flow is determined by the throw of the pump shaft, this is only altered by the adjuster screw, rotational speed is governed by the engine rpm, so unless the rpm is going into orbit.
  11. Auto tune can only give possible things that could be wrong assuming fault codes come up, it does not take away the need for experienced service people, auto tune logs high and low fuel settings, if read correctly these themselves can give a good idea of what may be happening ( too rich, too lean ) if auto tune has richened the mixture then the saw is running lean for a reason, air leaks, fuel starvation etc, if it has leaned the mixture then we know it is running rich, blocked air filter, blocked muffler spark arrestor etc, it would be very unusual for the ignition to give the symptons you are describing.
  12. The pump will have to come off, 4 allen screws under here and 2 by the chain adjuster, if you remove the pump be aware the crank seal is retained in the pump housing, be very careful when re assembling as its easy to hook the seal spring out on the crankshaft shoulder.
  13. Well i can remember the 166, we had two both pre production test saws prior to the 266, they both went to the Forestry Commission, both had the twin steel ring pistons, and both blew up at around 100 hours, the inlet skirts of the pistons broke away, right mess, Steve i did very many 480K machines, i knew them inside out come the end.
  14. There should be no leakage from the crankcase joint, as was said this is the gasket leaking, you could just make sure the case bolts are tight, but I would guess it's crankcase apart to replace the gasket, with the saw stood does the oil actually leak out? if not you can adjust the pump flow, it's a 4 position pump.
  15. New carb will have no software on it, so when fitted it will have to be plugged into cst to get the software, all previous information will be lost.
  16. 1954???????? Bloody hell, I guess this is a typo? it may well be the same unit , you will need to remove the flywheel to check which unit it has, many 165s did have the sem unit, it will have sem on the flywheel.
  17. The 265rx had the black sem unit, this was also used on the 480/298/2100/2101.
  18. Not seen many problems at all, there will always be odd issues as it is a mechanical product, I have seen two with spark arrestors blocked, very strange, but on the hold very reliable.
  19. There was no power gain between them, the Swedes always boasted it was the largest clearing saw in the world, far to powerful for a trimmer head, it was really a clearing saw not grass cutter
  20. The 165 was around for a good few years and was replaced by the 265, it was a very similar machine, from memory the gearbox, top cover, air filter, muffler, throttle handle were some of the main differences, was there a reason for the question?

Which breather do you have? the early breather consisted of two white round flat pellets, the inner one smaller than the outer one, they are just pressed in, they rely on being soaked with fuel/oil before they seal, the later one is the same as we use today, a white pressed in unit with a nipple on the outside, this can and should be used to replace the old style breather, if the saw has a purge bulb there will be another nipple for the return to tank hose, has this pipe come off?
  23. Thank you sir, fair comment, back of the class for me.
