  2. Have a old carbon steel sabatier its very easy to sharpen v the stianless steel Henckel ones bought as repalcements. Shaperning with a shapening steel..... Its blade is getting very worn away now but still prefer it. Think i need a better method/kit to sharpen up the SS henckels.....as the sharpening steel doesn't work on them well Anyway go for carbon steel over SS is my take on it......for ease of sharpening.... Why Serious Cooks Use Carbon Steel Knives WWW.SERIOUSEATS.COM For a long time, I lived in denial of how strong my feelings for carbon steel are. People would ask me what knives they...
  3. Remember reading something about how much of south wales valleys were wooded until they swapped over from coppicing the wood and making charcoal, too using coal for industries etc so the woodland lost its economic value. Now the former extensive woodland area is mostly degraded moorlands rough pasture plagioclimax veg like much of the uk uplands Think it was rackham Also selective felling may kind of replicate the role of the extinct ( hunted to extiction in the neolithic) megafauna that plants may of co evolved with.... 6. Used chain is cutting faster than brand a new one, and the lower rakers/plus angled front of rakers seems too of improved the chain most for boring and felling cuts, it seems like there is less "chatter". For snedding & cross cutting was abit less of a difference/improvement that I could notice Not very scientific, but that was just what i noticed since I tried that stihl progressive raker guide thingymajig 95TXL chain sharpened using file in a holder re doing the rakers took prob less than 5 mins on a 15" bar and is not needed every sharpen. No idea about teh science explainations in the carlton guide...or marketing Was cutting ok before but now its better. Thought the lower raker might of made it grabby but it didn't....

  9. Surprised by that, have a bay in the garden on clay & its slow growing compared to thoose ubiqitous cherry laurel hedges that all seem to grow like crazy. Least there not as bad as leylandi though i suppose as a hedge.
  10. Sell firewood by weight best to soak the logs in a pond before you flog them them? 🙂 One thing iv'e noticed dumpy bags are often sold as a 1m3 when a .8 x.8 dumpy bag is only .64m3
  11. Don't like the gortex etc lined boots if that what you mean by waterproof as they are sweaty. Had many fancy boots but atm using Screwfix dewalt bolster boots £40 and there as good as many of the more pricey ones i reckon...and leather with wax on is waterproof

  19. The angled rakers from using the prog raker gauge one did seem to made a noticable difference after previously just doing then more flat Seemed to make it cut smoother & also and less grabby Was skeptical before I tried it. Could just do the same freehand though, but before I tried the gauge I never thought to angle the rakers as much...
  20. I didn't think the oregon type one was as good the last one. It files raker at a more of a slope also than the oregon does
