There are 2 grades of the samurai saw similar to zubat not sure the differences but ones more pricey. ICHIBAN plus the cheaper ICHIGEKI I have the ichiban and thought it was near the the same as a zubat but maybe i forgot what the zubat was like when new. ICHIBAN were £15 each on amazon a while back but price seems to gone up since covid brexit etc .

I have the 18v makita one but not used it much for firewood as I use a makita lecky corded one or petrol for that. Used the 18v so far for prunning small trees shrubs etc & random odd jobs Went for the 18v over the 36v makita as only wanted it for small diameter stuff. Was put off by the heavy weight of the 36v makita version with only a 1.1kw motor compared to a petrol 40cc saw with 2.2kw. Stihl msa2220 is 2.1kw for similar weight so more like a 40cc saw The mirco 3/8 chain on the 18v makita is very smooth on small diameter cuts and leaves a nice finish - smoother & less grabby than a bigger chain. Also bought some bumper spikes as It didin't come with them. Happy with it so far & don't see the point of cordless for firewood, unless you have no plug You aren't really suppose to use the 18v it on the ground though as its a topper......

I think its a bad idea compared to the traditional way for both ecology and firwood. Think a 20 yr cycle of clear fell of the hazel in certain areas would produce more firewood longterm, & be better for the health of the hazel stools than selectively cutting sticks. Extraction would be easier. If the site is big enough you could divide into several coupes. How big is the area?. The coppice cut cycle is very good for habitiat diversity and any dormant seebank coppice ground flora species As for the shade torelance of hazel, hazel with standards coppice recommends 15% - 30% max canopy cover. Hazel will survive with more shade but isn't a very productive under shade. Shaded hazel tends to just be stuck in statis with a few large stems and a load of sun shoots. Growth rings will be very narrow. Also the species of any trees as standards, if there are any, makes a big difference as some trees have denser canopy tham others etc sycamores will cast more shade than ash or birch... Heard the same about overstood hazel . Also heard the silver bark ones are better quality than the brown bark type. Did read that there was a standard traditional size for the area of a cant or coupe but can't find the info now. Never had a reading any where as high as of 80% with a moisture meter something odd there unless wood is underwater or meter is faulty? Maybe wood is part rotten and & like a sponge absorbed water check the structure of the end grain. See pic of this spruce as an example. Certain woods go rotten fast it turns to mush and you can see it at the cut ends of the logs Often rubbish firwood sellers keep roundwood outside to long then log it up only just before delivery.

Have one in the garden that has a trunk look like that for around a decade now and the top is still healthy. Suckers from it pop up randomly and have left some so now there half a dozen trees.

OP might be using barrows across where hedge has being flailed to be so repeatedly unlucky? Is the barrow wheel going over blackthorn / brambles etc? Go many yrs without any puncture.... then its always seems to be thorns or nail etc that doest if I do get one.... Basically stuff that avoidable normally.

Hate the solid ones Maybe its something to do with cyling. Like team sky David Brailfords mantra for team sky cyclist marginal gains etc. Solid tyres just feel crap and more effort feels more of a chore to push. Same as riding a bike with rigid wire beading non folding cheapo tyres compared to quality high thread count tpi folding tyres. Rema top tip is the best patch brand made in germany.... Have some bike tubes with near a dozen patches on... 😏

Dunno what was it you used? Probably be fine to eat the fruit this yr , commercial orchards use fungicides..... Is there juniper nearby?
