  1. Any Sweet chesnut coppice about in Romania? Or black locust, & acacia.. Acacia Poles - Products WWW.ACACIABOIS.COM Poles (round, peeled, pointy): small diameters for fencing, large diameters for earthworks, river bank restoration (tunnage). If so you could make a nice shed from the round poles etc.
  2. I was thinking a bath full of water must weigh about the same or more esp if an old cast iron one?

    Grants

Heard there is some grant funding for new forestry equipment. I don't know the finer details but the items are listed below: (click the crown image) Productivity items and specifications – Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) 2024 - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK
  4. Yeah seems a fair price and will be a test to see if the hyundai works ok, i'd take along any other saws also.
  5. Get a decent 60cc saw
  6. Binders & stakes would make it more stock proof as well as looking tidy but as you already have pig netting I suppose its not needed.
  7. Zomax catalogue: https://www.zomaxtool.com/uploads/Gasoline-Chainsaws_opt.pdf Ok why does this one have 3 fuel caps? 16.9KW! 🤔?
  8. Ewincher 2 - Electric Winch Handle WWW.OCEANCHANDLERY.COM Ocean Chandlery (formerly Sea Teach), has been based in Emsworth, UK since 1981. UK agents for the Istec Parasailor... £2000! Anyhing cheap that has the same specs?
  9. According to this its got sunnier in winter which i find suprising but annual variation is pretty big. UK temperature, rainfall and sunshine time series WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Time series graphs of climate variables for previous months, seasons and years
  10. Same here I have tried some & it hates waterlogged clay . & for some reason no chesnut coppices in the north either maybe doesn't like colder weather not sure as see some SC trees doing fine & thriving, on "better" soils. So i think it would do fine in the north generallly but just on different soil.
  11. Think the oregon type design or a homemade version the same from wood is better just chuck a whole pile in an then cut all at once. Why cut one at a time? Good for a load of thin branches etc
  12. Leicester pattern billhook maybe? & Im guessing the axe might be a miners axe head pattern?
  13. Never seen that any pictures anywhere of that technique with the 180 degree pleach sounds abit hard to do....
  14. Nice work shame its from hazel not chesnut though for durability...... I did a continious weave fence from hazel id planted lasted about 3yrs but had the bark still on, I think bark traps moisture & makes it rot faster. The stripped stuff may last abit longer.... Chesnut pailing on the other hand has lasted well over a decade.
  15. I got a merino "cycling top" from lidl a few yrs ago its really good, is the same design as the first item was £20 wish id bought 10 of them. I don't wear it often as don't want it to get wrecked as its so nice to wear and a new version or eqivalent item isn't cheap. I see the top is machine wash which is good as some wool & wool blend stuff is hand wash etc which is a pita. Alot of quality workwear is fashion brand prices which is a shame. Price now often now not anymore being a good indicator of quality. My favourite jacket I have is a javlin type fibre pile jacket of a type no one makes anymore from the now defunct welsh company Brennig. You rang them up and they would custom make a jacket to your personnal measurements for a reasoanable price.... They also used to kit out polar explorers...& out door pursuit centres
  16. Was 2000 Ravens in the local woods. NRW has decided it should be felled though as non native etc & have since clear felled some blocks which I thought is a shame alot less ravens now. Natural Resources Wales / How to catch a glimpse of the ravens on show at Newborough NATURALRESOURCES.WALES Was an amazing site when they were all flying about like the hitchcock film
  17. I have noticed some axes will rust fast while others hardly at all must be different steels. For a splitting maul I don't think sharpness is that important but the the right blade profile is, whereas for a felling axe both sharpness & blade profile is important. I don't think there are many vintage axes & UK axes about that are designed as cleaving or splitting mauls/axes like the bruk maul? Maybe they weren't a common thing until more recently but im not sure why as so many different axe head patterns etc in the old catalogues....? William Hunt & Sons, The Brades Ltd. : Export Catalogue : 1934 Edition : William Hunt & Sons, The Brades, Ltd. : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive ARCHIVE.ORG 110 p., illus., 27.2 cm, trade catalog & only one maul.... Ben Scott on youtube is good on axes: https://www.youtube.com/@benscottwoodchopper/videos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=0
  18. Husky functional helmet has what looks like a basic piece of leather on the front headband which might be better....than some others? Ive never had a rash and have never cleaned it & sweat buckets in the summer. Husqvarna Helmet Sweatband SKYLANDEQUIPMENT.COM Replacement sweatband for Husqvarna functional helmets only
  19. I seems to be spreading on the map every yr so id guess one day will be UK wide? Spraying is not working or is it worthwhile to try & slow it down?
  20. When i was in uni the large coke a cola bottles has a 10p deposit
  21. How to you define good? Not gonna be the best for pratical usage as nearly 60yr old. Will have not have good AV and be heavy. Might be of interest to someone who likes collecting old chainsaws though....

  23. When the farmers burn bale wrap and tyres it looks like kuwait during the gulf war 😜
