  4. Yeah Portugal has huge commercial euc plantations surely if it was drought, it would hammer them with the climate they get there as I thought it was both drier and hottter than UK - but im just guessing....? Wonder how the forestry ones Big J planted in UK are doing - he know abit about eucs? Also as theres huge ranges of euc species suited to diffferent enviros some might thrive whilst others fail? Some disease maybe...? NZ Farm Forestry - Phytophthora causing crown dieback of Eucalyptus WWW.NZFFA.ORG.NZ

  10. Was just thinking of trying the same on all the bare earth on the veg plots between plants. Probabably should of done it already Never can remember another yr like this one without any rain for over a month now and still none forcast... Bet alot tree saplings planted on schemes eariler this yr are gonna be toast and the apples & fruit will be dropping of trees etc.
  11. With regards to any coppices material if its hazel may have some added value over firewood but only if its being kept in rotation otherwise im guessing might be hard to cover costs of the initial restoring - if its a neglected coppice from the first cut....? More value in any standards but any coppice craft products will only be decent quality with less than about 20% canaopy cover and after its has being restocked to density if over shaded so a long term project.....
  12. Wrong time of yr will be plenty of free acorns lying about in the autum.
  13. When cutting stems on ground standing straight up with a long bar won't it be hard to avoid dirt with the chain as you cutting logs with bar tip is held at a 45 degree angle I normally crouch down so bar is cutting more lvl with ground then flip logs over for that last bit. But recall seeing yanks on youtube who use say 24" - 30" bars or whatever ringing up pretty small diameter stems on the grounnd with the tip of long bar and not flipping logs but they probably had a brash mat underneath.
  14. May as well cut the stem yourside at the base imo as it would look more tidy. I think you can legally cut all but not 100% sure.....? Saw a "funny" pic online somewhere where a whole of large diameter tree trunk had being cut down the middle removing about 1/3 of whole encroaching trunk from the base to he bottom of the crown, to fit a newly erected fence. Was cut like this apart from the tree was more vertical so still had a half a top As was not ring barked so chance the tree could possibly still survive yrs as a hollow tree.... veteranisation.....? But in your tree its two seperate trunks right at ground lvl so it won't be so crazy as literally slicing in half a maiden tree trunk down the middle
  15. Looks good but shouldn't outdoor deck boards have gaps to drain water just as it might then dry and last longer? Suppose might not looks as nice with gaps....
  16. 17. Zannon an italian company do smaller engined similar style one for 5000 euro & the Same engine on a chipper is 6000 euro Made in italy supposedly
  18. Fancy a try of this new rotary engine machine....^ Im not convinced sharpening mower blades is that critical as didn't notice a new blade making a huge difference to the cut. Must get round to doing the strimmer ones. Have the smaller ( in thickness and sized) 2 tooth oregon mulch blade. The bigger ones are alot heavier. Maybe the 3 tooth ones are kinder to the machines than 2 tooth? How do you balance blades when sharpening any fancy jig etc? Seen some expensive looking wall mounted thing for it....
