  1. I much prefer cycling in the cuntryside lanes than towns less broken glass & "phone zombie peds" Share use paths are often rubbish also as they can be swarming with dog walkers etc covered in rubbish and blocked by moody "chavs" ? I do try stay off busy roads though whilst cycling, some of the mammils you see on busy roads are either ignorant or the area/scared of getting lost as on holiday, or scared of damaging there £5000 bike going down country lanes due to potholes etc. Plus sometimes the busy route is the only route available. As for cycling being unheathly due to pollution being in a car is worse than cycling: Cyclists 'exposed to less air pollution than drivers' on busy routes | Environment | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Study shows people in cars and buses spend longer in toxic air, as do walkers on main roads
  2. How about women cyclists are they "allowed" to wear lycra? ? or does it make em plonkers?
  3. Have the 5 ah batteries Went for the middle 600mm 24" length as was thinking less work for the battery though on using it probably has enough power for the 30" bar........ Makita does do a battery multi tool that has a hedge attachment but its the double battery version like there older model hedge trimmer rather than single so extra weight. Also attachments are pricey Makita launches twin 18v (36v) split-shaft LXT multi-took PROARBMAGAZINE.COM Makita has launched a 36v cordless multi-tool system for landscape maintenance operations together with a range of... Would be nice to get some feeback from anyone who has the multitool one.....
  4. That Monty Don series bout Japeses gardens, I noticed all the tree ninjas with silkys were wearing snazzy canvas boots: Not chainsaw boots but they have steel toe caps
  5. I have the same hedge trimmer also im impressed with it. Hoping they bring out a long reach version of it also.....
  6. I always look and the vibs when buying stuff but worst things iv'e noticed for vibs are karcher pressure washers & my hair trimmer. Barbers must be in danger of HAVS?
  7. Interesting any pics of the oaks?
  8. This seems pretty extreme but I noticed some contractors strimming and they were doing that, I thought they were just lazy stopping all the time but must of being about HAVS? Was 6 people strimming balsam and they all stopped together every 20 mins for 10 mins just stoosd around, then repeat etc. Do others also do this also now thinking I should whilst strimming? ?
  9. How about linen? Dunno how enviro it is but its natural & biodegrable, ans supposedly good in summer heat.. Linen - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG 100% linen polo shirt - Men | Mango Man United Kingdom SHOP.MANGO.COM Casual line 100% linen Polo neck Short sleeve Side slits Model^ reminds me of the "Sports causual" look like Alan Partridge ? EDIT: Sounds pretty enviro from the paper: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/233562317_Environmental_Impact_Analysis_of_the_Production_of_Flax_Fibres_to_be_Used_as_Composite_Material_Reinforcement Man from del monte says.......
  10. Iv'e noticed the similar on some sycamore trees, proabably only noticed as now im as always looking at tree crowns for signs of dieback since all the ash started dying....
  11. So going naked? Or are they worse than polyester or cotton etc?. I suppose wearing clothes second hand or the same clothes for ages til they fall apart & darning you socks etc patching holes on trousers, would be is most enviro, but it would makes you look abit of an oddball. Clothes are cheap enough that there not worth patching up like in the olden days, and people like new stuff even when theres nothing wrong with the old. Even in poor third world places they have cheap mass produced brand new clothes were as the poor used to have second hand rags/make there own clothes.
  12. Maybe the average person is just not as fit nowadays as in ther past? From the NHS webnite: If that many people are fat doesn't bode well for most peoples fitness to do a physical job.
  13. plastic litter
  14. Cut branch clean at a union/collar leave cut untreated, apples will no good will be sour/too unripe atm to taste nice apart from animal food imo. Many gardens have loads have apples they never use im sure if you keep an eye out someone will let you have a load though locally this yr has being very poor for apples.
  15. Looks like beech being.pollarded?
  16. Apparently for hazel it doesn't make much diffference to growth rates after a few yrs what time you coppice it. Read some really good study they did an experiment coppicing in every month, stools did just as well after 5yrs etc (height and thickness/number of rods) if coppiced in summer as the winter coppiced ones. Annoying can't find the study now. Also read somewhere else charcoal makers and bodgers coppiced all year round. Wonder about frost hardyness though for tender shoots if late summer coppiced (espeically chesnut maybe?) About moisture content if you leave the leaves on tree for a while after summer felling the wood is suppose to loose some of ther the moisture....transpiration. Think it was in nowegian wood they mentioned it
  17. Prunus something or other.
  18. I wouldn't want to use a tractor PTO splitter alot as you get gassed by the fumes. Anyone run a hose etc to take the exhaust fumes further away?
  19. More of this kind of thing I suppose: The Scottish islands are owned by the people who live on them - The Scotsman WWW.SCOTSMAN.COM A ‘historic day’ for a tiny island off the coast of Mull was hailed today after ownership was passed to the community...
  20. Interesting ideas paper: Land for the Many: A report to Labour LANDFORTHEMANY.UK This independent report commissioned by the Labour Party aims to put land where it belongs: at the heart of political... Pretty radical ideas about land ownership & tax reform.
  21. If he'd being around a few yrs ago before the internets & social media he'd just be some unknown racist on a street corner shouting abuse at passers by, but now due to social media hes become some kind of mascot to idiots.
