  1. If its survived 6yrs since landscaping won't it be ok for many yrs more? Top looks healthy & lean isn't excessive.
  2. Why are they spreading north now bad bio security or climate change?
  3. Seems that they are spreading exponentially? https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/toxic-caterpillar-invasion-spiralling-out-of-control-following-phenomenal-population-explosion-a4053786.html Dunno if they can be stopped but they seem to be losing the "battle" ?
  4. Was watching grand designs last night about 2 new houses on some street with 10 self builds. Why do nearly all "grand design" houses seem to have such massive sized roofs compared to walls, which seems to create alot of unusable spaces without head room?
  5. Makita don't make 9ah ones but the off brand ones come in 9ah? So either there false label or beter capacity than the largest makita ones? Interesting reviews on amazon of some: Battery: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reoben-BL1860B-5500mAh-Cordless-Indicator/dp/B07GWPVHMP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=makita+batteries&qid=1554448812&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1 Review: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-reviews/R166KNWA6WIYAZ/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B07GWPVHMP
  6. Do you have a winch? If not maybe fell tree/s it could get hung up on first like the two trunk tree in second photo EDIT: third/last photo not second one
  7. https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=398
  8. how did you ident that from such a poor quality pic? mad skills
  9. Locals woods had a harvester in over winter, am impressed by the scale size of some of the the ruts that are near waist deep and 10metres long. Now they are basically ponds. Somebody was telling me ruts are actually a bonus as they create a habitat/bare ground which increases spieces diversity. There is an area locally of of sand dune slacks offroaders had being driving over for yrs before it was banned Now they have had conservation volunteers in the same area striping areas of the sand of to recreate "ruts" as offroading has being banned. They also have had diggers in for weeks scraping vegetation from the dunes etc to recreat mobile sand. So basically ruts aren't all bad in some respects......
  10. In USA they still wear aluminuim hats? https://www.loggingsupply.com/products/aluminum-hard-hat?variant=51575505611 Looks kind of retro but maybe a wide brim offers more protection?
  11. Any mores info on this? Always thought self seeders grew/rooted better than planted trees? Would it mean self seeders blow over more than plantation trees?
  12. Says prunus leaves are alternate on wiki? Thoose don't look alternate they look opposite? Does look prunus like though
  13. Damson/bullace already in flower for a week here (North Wales)
  14. They came with a .325 and .50 gauge bar 15" Using this combo atm: https://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/product/150txlbk095-oregon-speed-cut-bar-15-325-050-64-drive-links/ https://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/product/95txl-oregon-lo-pro-325-050/ But saw came with dolmar brand chain & bar Seems to work fine, sharpening has to be got just right for the diagonal gob cuts or removing butresses (basically cutting against the grain) especially in hardwoods like beech otherwise saw bogs down Saws are good apart from the poor design of the chain tensioner nub which sits in the bar which could be beefier ive knacked/worn/bent a few so had to order some new ones. Also replaced a "oil worm" that wore out maybe coz I use veg oil. I think the 15" low pro bar suits the saw. Wouldn't fit a larger bar.
  15. Sorry one in previous post above was not the right one (an older type) my saws both have this: https://www.google.co.uk/search?ei=nq6OXIn7H6HrxgPZz7roAw&q=195173050&oq=195173050&gs_l=psy-ab.3...2030.4988..5269...0.0..0.60.110.2......0....1..gws-wiz.0Z75FUd-lYM I have 2 of theese saws, an ea4300 and dolmar 420SC (EU name for 421) both from germany they are the same saws both came with nylon filters the same design. See the diagram shows both types: http://download.dolmar.com/manuals/19932.pdf Didn't realize there was even flocked filters?
  16. Having used a 181 even a decent 40cc would be a huge leap up from a 181 in cut speed/performance but hardly an increase in saw weight. e.g 241 So i reckon you need 2 new saws for different diameter wood & keep the 181 as a spare. ?
  17. Mine has a nylon mesh one from new. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Air-Filter-DOLMAR-350-420-Bis-Bj-11-2009-195173211/942811248 I thought flocked were better?
  18. So this guys wrong: https://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/oil-mix-ratio-for-milling.81581/
  19. Mixed stand conny? http://www.maelor.co.uk/pdf/AlternativeModel2.pdf
  20. Not that long lived compared to most other species & wood rots very fast if left in stacks outdoors. (Odd as is regarded to be really rot resistant in water) Still nice trees though.
  21. Wow seems thats expensive? What will you use it for?
  22. Mrs miggins don't really care or think much about the enviroment so it would be a niche market advertizing as a low carbon etc. Interested if anyone actually does bother to make a point of doing so though... I like lecky tools though less fumes when using comapred to 2 stroke...
  23. Endangered species like scottish wildcats maybe they need a captive breeding program....
