  1. Sorry one in previous post above was not the right one (an older type) my saws both have this: https://www.google.co.uk/search?ei=nq6OXIn7H6HrxgPZz7roAw&q=195173050&oq=195173050&gs_l=psy-ab.3...2030.4988..5269...0.0..0.60.110.2......0....1..gws-wiz.0Z75FUd-lYM I have 2 of theese saws, an ea4300 and dolmar 420SC (EU name for 421) both from germany they are the same saws both came with nylon filters the same design. See the diagram shows both types: http://download.dolmar.com/manuals/19932.pdf Didn't realize there was even flocked filters?
  2. Having used a 181 even a decent 40cc would be a huge leap up from a 181 in cut speed/performance but hardly an increase in saw weight. e.g 241 So i reckon you need 2 new saws for different diameter wood & keep the 181 as a spare. ?
  3. Mine has a nylon mesh one from new. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Air-Filter-DOLMAR-350-420-Bis-Bj-11-2009-195173211/942811248 I thought flocked were better?
  4. So this guys wrong: https://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/oil-mix-ratio-for-milling.81581/
  5. Mixed stand conny? http://www.maelor.co.uk/pdf/AlternativeModel2.pdf
  6. Not that long lived compared to most other species & wood rots very fast if left in stacks outdoors. (Odd as is regarded to be really rot resistant in water) Still nice trees though.
  7. Wow seems thats expensive? What will you use it for?
  8. Mrs miggins don't really care or think much about the enviroment so it would be a niche market advertizing as a low carbon etc. Interested if anyone actually does bother to make a point of doing so though... I like lecky tools though less fumes when using comapred to 2 stroke...
  9. Endangered species like scottish wildcats maybe they need a captive breeding program....

    Ticks away!

Bit paranoid about the idea of wearing cloths impregnated with insecticides. Suppose a dose of chemicals that kill ticks is less bad than getting lymes disease though Weirdly it kills/f88ks up cats ..... https://www.google.co.uk/search?ei=aSyGXP-IIIKX1fAP3JKJoAg&q=permethrin+cats&oq=permethrin+cats&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0l2j0i22i30l8.30018.31118..31461...0.0..0.68.238.4......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j0i67.zrlBhF5cwIQ
  11. This seems a bargin atm, alot or saw for the price if you want to cut though logs fast https://www.radmoretucker.co.uk/shop/garden-machinery/chainsaws-tree-care/petrol-chainsaws/makita-ea7900p45e-petrol-chainsaw-18/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4cPQ-pX24AIVb7HtCh3urQN6EAQYASABEgI1U_D_BwE Not tried one but there s being several threads on them:
  12. You could try: http://www.dolmarpowerproducts.com/productcatalog/chain_saws_gasoline/ps-421/index.html Dolmar 421 same class as the 241 (40cc) Comes as the Makita ea4300 in the UK Compared to a 181 flies through wood. Won't be as fast as 550xp or 261 though especially on larger diamter stuff. For firewood crosscutting I use an electric corded makita 2kw on most stuff apart the large diameter hardwood Makita electric corded cuts alot faster than a 181 Also pine is fine in stove as long as seasoned
  13. One of theese? https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Lennartsfors+IronHorse&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjIs8LK1vTgAhViUBUIHetEAKAQ_AUIDygC&biw=1680&bih=917#imgrc=ehT5iZSt0RXHJM:
  14. Will you fell a load of them before wood becomes worthless or leave as standing deadwood etc? Any restrictions of removing timber from site? (Would seen pointless as its already spread everywhere)
  15. In the news again: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-47483197 Wonder what the experts will decide?
  16. Not read it but this book supposedly lays out what the future will be like due to climate change: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/feb/27/the-uninhabitable-earth-review-david-wallace-wells Of course the flat earthers will say its all bunkum
  17. Well I passed. Little saw did ok apart from one 3ft diamter beech tree where it was taking ages to trim butresses (against the grain) so used instructors 362 saw... Windblown next hopefully. Any books worth getting for abit extra infos about felling etc to expand on the LANTRA course book?
  18. Will this be like that dolmar 4 stroke hype then never appear?
  19. Look like a kid wearing a high viz or just very short police person?
  20. Says first one has waterproof shoulder pads second is Sympatex waterproof material Not sure how that compares to gortex etc
  21. How old/young does the tree ideally need to be if I want to make a new pollard? If tree is two old won't lopping larger branches off it create rot, suppose its species dependent also. Iv'e seen acient unmanaged pollards (though rare locally) in countryside & street tree pollards, but zero younger ones so was thinking of trying to create a few new ones along a field boundary as supposedly they increase the lifespan of trees & I think it would be interesting etc. Just being reading Roger Deakin Wildwood had abit about pollarding used to be a common method for firewood & animal forage. Rember seeing telly program about the tradition in it in spain they were still climibinng up & using axes for pollarding...
  22. Only just realized how often stuff is cheaper on different amazon sites than the UK one Compare stuff from "different" amazons: https://www.curiua.com Suppose after brexit there be import tax on everything?
  23. Any pictures or infos of oak stools regrowth? Iv'e read that they can be coppiced but never seen any done, or any oak coppice stools, although the acient oaks all are supposedely pollarded/or coppiced trees which allows them too reach an older age than a un-pollarded tree.
  24. Makitas are decent saws.
