  1. Don't forget about the fact, that because of the higher gearing you drive more miles, but your counter still counts the same (low) amount. When switching from 195/70 R15 to 225/70r15, I actually drove 5-6% farer compared to the 195, while my counter showed the same distance. So my increased consumption in reality was 7.5% more instead of the shown/calculated 12.5%.
  2. I really don't understand how someone could work without them. Alone the increased stability on chip piles or if the stump is a little larger and you have to drive into the hole a bit, they are priceless. Vermeer's tag for them is a bad joke.
  3. Usually work wear, I excuse myself when beeing dirty, whith that I just come from a tough job. Nothing wrong with beeing busy.
  4. A friend of mine works as an Art Director for big advertising company. I asked him if it's worth having a Facebook page. Answer in short: If my potential customers hang around there and I am able to continous post interesting stuff it's fine. Otherwise a tidy Homepage is more professional and better. My main customers are solvent homeowners, if I should guess from experience, they where maybe between 40-80 years. The mass of FB users is not in that range. End.
  5. Stumpy Grinder is right. I would use my Alpine and a chainsaw on this. First clean around with the Mag, than cut as low as possible, then grind the left roots with the Alpine, should take 1-2 hours, probably less.
  6. Keep in mind, that even a knackered 252 or 1625 can easily be in need of spares in the 1k to 4k range. Even if you shop smart.
  7. Annoying yes, especially explaining the customer. For sure the belt never breaks in the gararage. How many hours had the belt on the clock?
  8. Yes, it is better. But I'm unsure how much hassle you may have if you want to fit it. I'm not only talking about the mounting, maybe there are some hydraulic changes needed too.
  9. Probably stucks like a corkscrew on a 60" stump leaving all the flare roots untouched.
  10. Anyone ever compared the results from cheapo device with the ones an expensive moisture meter gives?
  11. New Bandits coming up? What are are specs, will there be a wheeled one? @Stefan, you really need that AM, anyway well solved.
  12. This! Use mine for greasing bushings only hate that it doesn't seal properly. Would not not buy one agan.
  13. Did anybody ever tried to weldseam a worn anvil and grind it square?
  14. Dolmar 7650 here, same speed and air flow as the BR600, cheaper, straight gas and really quiet.
  15. I'm pretty sure that if the hole gets deeper, you tilt the machine so much, that the oil sentry switch kills the ignition. Because of the rotating mass, the piston keeps pumping fuel/air into the cylinder that enters unburned the hot exhaust. Bang. Congrats, you have reached the machine's maximum grinding depth.
  16. All I know is that they are made just to lay them on the lawn. Met them a exhibition, they explained that because of linkage between the tiles the load is shared across a wide area. They are more like very hard rubber than like stiff/brittle plastics. I believe it's nothing for public traffic but for our purposes, like trailer and van managment on self owned lawn it should be fine. Still scared by the price which qas about 3£ per tile. But no work to make a lawn usable is nice as well.
  17. I'm in a similar situation. Found these tiles, which can be layed on the ground without any previous work, just on top of the grass. But I've found no reviews yet. So far only found this source in Germany, probably worth a try Rasenwabe secu S - Kunststoff Rasengitter / Bodenwabe zur soliden Bodenbefestigung - Securatek
  18. I think a 3120 or 088 would be a tad too much for flush-cutting a stump now and then. Stefan, you know I run a Stump bizz too and was in the same situation. My final choice was a dolly 7910. Nearly 6hp drag virtually any chain, it's a bit heavier than a comparable stihl but as it only lowers a stump from time to time I can live with a few grams more. While it's about half the price of the stihl! If I was a feller, maybe the stihl is the favourite, as you need to save any weight, but as a stumper? In addition you may have jobs where you got to flush 30 stumps around 20", because the owner's brother was afraid to cut that low and dull his chain. I would not want to drag a 088 around the whole property. As you cut stumps, you will ruin your chain every few stumps because of little stones and dirt that are close to the ground or behind the bark. So probably you don't want to have a very long bar, because sharpening will take a while or is expensive. I'm very happy with the 50cm bar on my 7910, the short chain is quite fast to sharpen, cheap to replace, races through wood and the cubes you cut from those giant stumps (because 50cm is to short there) are not too heavy and you can carry them out of your way. Using a 3120/088 with a 90cm bar will get you nowhere, heavy to carry around, expensive to purchase, endless amount of teeth to sharpen and the pieces you cut from the big ones weight more than you. I think your current Stihl is not the worst choice. good luck marne
  19. Catalpa, comes late goes early, in country free tranlsated as the officer-tree.
  20. With a bigger hp grinder you could have had short work and a happy wife. The sad, it's too late for now, the good, you got the perfect excuse for an upgrade. I fully understand your preference, but weddings for some reason, are some of the most important things for females, you should have been at the side of your always understanding wife. Upgrade before it's too late .
  21. Timber, what an excellent idea, I often thought about redesigning the wheel or teeth a bit, because the teeth are so brittle, probably even more on the AM. I was always a little worried that bigger teeth may draw too much power from the wee engine. My thought is, that they are that small because it's easier for low HPs to drag them through wood - makes them cut nice for the price of lacking toughness. The Greenteeth are literally giants, please let us know how they are going, may be worth to resuscitate the old thread. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/93386-redesigning-wheel.html
  22. Dean, is that a guess or a promise? Something in the 1-1.4t range with 45-60hp would be nice, the current options are so-so.
  23. For me a similar issue was solved by replacing the strap down belts. For some reason they never stopped lengthening a few mm. Went with those retractable ratchets and never looked back. A big time saver too. Regards
  24. I could not pass it. Looks like a handy thing. Skidster M10
