  1. Gray, could you not just mount a normal hydraulic winch to the front of the tractor and redirect the rope over or through the front loader with guides? The tractor hydraulics have no problems with the six ton superwinch. Just thoughts

  5. The break/wear pattern looks like its been caused by excessive lateral movement at the other end of the ram. It may be worth checking it out, if its not I would be changing that pin end to a spherical rod end. Just thoughts Bob

Does it levitate, the one we had would get stuck driving over a fag butt Cant see how we would do without them, we have five 2wd vehicles and most of them have needed one of the 4wd vehicles at some point to tow them off site. Also the trailer license thing with the 4wd gives carrying capacity not far off that of a 7 1/2 tonner. Bob
  7. I have moved a few harvesters and forwarders with the low loader in the last few years and chatting with the operators. If you can believe what they say I think they are working to keep up the finance on the kit and barely draw a working wage. Its not a new thing. Bob

Nothing wrong with the GM v8 petrol or diesel conversions, it needs to go in on a proper bellhousing and piped up to a decent four core rad, the engine sits back properly and runs a mechanical fan. The running gear needs to be under 300,000 miles old and there are no problems. The pisspoor adaptor plates were the main problem, pushing the engine forward so it needed leccy fans and the plates being badly misalligned causing gearbox issues.   10. Ok Gray I will bite A Staffa motor ( radial piston motor)would be ideal to turn the winch but you would need to match the flowrate with one of those pto driven pumps like the one on your grab (but bigger). Bob
  11. Started clearing the island on this lake today. Had to man handle the little steel work boat into the lake, its a heavy thing goes about a ton. Mick became the first casualty

  13. Interesting that, I will keep shtum but I do know of at least two outfits that run on other transport companies O`licenses. I suppose they are structured in a way that they are seen to belong to the company. Bob

  17. We have a friendly hgv fitter up the road that lets us on his brake rollers for £25 (folding) . Thats not bad for six axles ,half an hour of his time and the ten minutes the poor sod needs to spend with a broom when we have gone Bob

Overloading is a percentage game Ian, 400kg over on a transit would be the best part of 50% overloaded.Thats a lot when the books being thrown at you, they would cite the braking efficiency , tyre capacity and designed vehicle weights to bolster or beef up their case. The same amount weight (400kg)over on an artic would probably just get you a warning. Vosa around here have transit days but the locals start the tomtoms beating and most give the area a wide berth.
