Best 7 or 8 ton excavator for forestry work ??

PC80 is a fair machine, the cabs a nice place to be and they have a decent auxiliary flow rate. We have run these for years and the only reoccurring problem has been fracturing of the poorly supported HP steel pipe on the pump, for some reason this only happens when running the mulching heads. Easy fix with a brace though. Bob -

They are expensive and not very durable, I had molds made at a foundry that used to cast our Berti hammers with their own porridge. It greatly increased hammer life but was hard work sharpening them. Its going back a good few years now but if anyone is interested I can contact the foundry and see if the still have them or are even still in business. Minimum order used to be one hundred @ £4 each. Its a lump Peter, the girls in the horsey yard have commandeered it so its staying where it is Just wondering now what to treat it with, I dont want the grief of varnish but also dont want stain/oils coming off on clothes. Nice little tipping trailer with big capacity there Mick, looks like a useful bit of multipurpose kit. Just bimbling about today doing a bit of pr with customers on some of our long term contracts and watering these horrid feckers. 10k for this lot:thumbdown: I have backed the mulched over better.

A few hundred meters of Gorse,Birch and scrub mulched off for civil enabling works. Work was for Al at Old Mill tree Care. Bob

Would it not be worth getting it out of there with tractor and trailer to a site where you can stack with a view to collect with a timber truck when there is a full load ready ? When we use our ten tonner to move cord we cut at 2.5 and load it sideways on the truck to save faffing about with bolsters. Bob

Dayco do a Krikit gauge if you want to spend £30 ish Krikit? V-Belt Tension Gauge | Gates Corporation BSL or any decent belt supplier should be able to get one for you. Bob

Confession. I have got chain making kit and usually only buy Oregon, not because its any good but thats all Honeybros keep in stock. I had to get a load of our medium sized saws ready for a job that was running for a month solid , after getting the saws sorted I had my couldn`t be arsed on head on so bought a pile of pattern bars and a few dozen ready made cheapy chains off ebay to suit rather than make them up. The surprise is the lads could not tell the difference and there were no breakages. Bob

The stability of these artic steer loaders is a bit suspect, our Schaffer has been on its side a few times. I think its important to have one guy trained up that knows how to drive one safely, there is nothing wrong with them in competent hands. Problems arise when the unsuspecting get them on the turn with raised forks/bucket on anything other than a level surface. Bob
