  1. And there`s me looking at the thread title thinking its was all about client totty Bob
  2. Personally I preferred the old tabled format of the forum page, it was so much easier and clearer to navigate. The few members I know that used to log in now dont bother as a direct result of the changes. Bob
  3. Without seeing it I would say forget the "rate" , if its only fifteen man days total work back off of that . On this type of work we use one cutter to three/four labourers and get the sprayer to run a day behind the cutter so they are not tripping over each other. Bob
  4. I think the landscape lads have been overdoing it in the crewcab transit, one spring broken and the bolt pulled through the bush in the other, changed for the gypsy three plus ones Mush Best part of two ton ,
  5. Had a quick chat to my mate that made that small vid and he said that there is a flight recorder that is gps linked so positioning coordinates are linked to the rolling vid which can be downloaded. He does not know about the commercial use or associated costs but for your own use its free.He will be down next week to give me demo so will make notes, he mentioned a drone that has all the bells and whistles that is available for £600 all in ready to fly inc the camera. Bob
  6. I like the sound of this Mike , not so sure about the gps side of things but with a running commentary would make explaining the jobs to the guys prior to leaving the yard a lot easier. A friend of mine has been messing with them and pieced one together. He has about £700 tied up in this one complete with camera , it has about half an hour flying time. A bit of messing about
  7. Not so sure about the range thing Dan, some of these leccy cars have a 300mile range. That for 90% plus of road users must surly be enough, for the inner cities they are a nobrainer and its just snobbery/status/oneupmanship thats holding back the uptake of these cars. The government should force electric cars on inner city dwellers where they are all choking to death. Bob
  8. A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She reduced altitude and spotted a man below. She descended a bit more and shouted: "'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am". The man below replied "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude". "You must be a technician." said the balloonist. "I am" replied the man "how did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you have told me is probably technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is, I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip with your talk." The man below responded, "You must be in management". "I am" replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," said the man "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fucking fault!
  9. If you are serious about saving the trees just get the new services impact bored in, they go along under the roots and wont disturb anything. Ours have duct pulling attachments on the back and will pull in pvc pipes as they go along. 30mts is not an issue, you will only need a hole each end of the run. Bob The small one, 50mm with duct pulling attachment.
  10. You could impact bore under the roots if you dont want to disturb them, Grundomat moles will do both the service cables and soil pipe. Or if you want a machine to slice through the roots rather than rip them out you could use a chain trencher. Bob
  11. The cats way to smart for the muts Mick, must have been around a lot longer than I thought because she knows all the observation points . Anyway managed to get a wormer down her throat after an hour long battle, also managed to get some flea gear on her and she is getting fat. Bought her a new bed which she wont go in and found she developed a penchant for the cheap tinned salmon from Aldi`s Seems a fair exchange for the mice she catches . Bob
  12. I think the problem is the size of the woodland, in planning to qualify for prior notification you need in excess of 5 hectares. Under 5 hectares requires full planning for just about anything., being in a national park and an AONB probably wont help either. The LPA may well regard the storing of logs on this site a commercial enterprise, its worth a visit to the local council to try to get them on your side rather than fight enforcements.. Bob
  13. Could not cope with that colour so had George paint it again , what do you reckon then @TIMON , @eggsarascal and @john p ( just an excuse to play with the new @ gadget Bob
  14. None of the ones I have use a relay for the dump valve, solenoid for raising but just wired up to the pendant/switch for dump/lower. It may pay to look at the switch. Bob
  15. I like all the new gizmo`s but preferred the old page layout, I am getting the hang of it but think its scared a hell of a lot of folk away. Bob
  16. We clear a lot of rough old sites for developers and as above the kit will take a bit of a battering. I am not sure what head these bobcats run but if you can set the shoes/skids down ( providing they have them) you will probably get away with a high cut, you could then clear whats cut and take another look. Bob
  17. The industry needs a shake up on this, signs and warnings are not really adequate. Stacks need to be left safe. Remember this ? Bob
  18. Lost all my emails, any way of getting them back? Bob
  19. Quite right Woody Transit and chipper is fine if its complimented with a 4x4 and trailers. Add in a bit of mechanical handling like a mini loader and you are on your way. Next step has to be a truck followed by a bigger truck, keep away from Mogs unless you need one Bob
  20. And the answer is.....................................................................Forget mogs , transits, tractors and 4x4`s with trailers, get a truck instead. I`m off Bob
  21. The head rotates on that old clunker so you can use the radius to sharpen and not the flat of the stone, so yes it can do both and I would imagine if the right fixture was made you could do the same on the Tormek or dry bench grinders. A fair bit of debate on this curved vs straight and whether or not it makes any difference. Bob
  22. As Dave has done Richie or one of those Tormek whetstone grinders, I am not sure which model but a few of the lads on here have them with a fixture for doing chipper blades. Mine is an old mower grinder I converted, has an adjustable sweep of about a metre so can do big or small blades. It can do six pairs of TW 150 blades at a time Posted this before [ame] [/ame]
  23. My advice is get your own sharpener, you can sharpen a pair of blades quicker than you could wrap them up and post them. Bob
  24. Mogs for forestry/AG work are ok but not domestic tree work unless running HGV compliant .This article which centres around haulage has a few pointers about ag vehicles used for commercial gain. Wise up before using a tractor for road haulage haulage - Farmers Weekly Bob
  25. Cant you guys in NZ get hold of yank 4x4`s ? The Ford F series and Chevy 4x4 diesel pickup trucks s will do all you want and more. Bob
