  1. This must be the only trade that allows a person to go on a two day course and then loose them into the open with a qualification for something in most cases they know nothing about. This should be a two or three year contractually tied in proper apprenticeship whereby they do their time with an affiliated company, when I say do their time I dont mean a few weeks work experience I mean doing a proper weeks work . Then after a meeting with an assessor to evaluate their performance both in the workplace and with the college should there be any form of qualification awarded. There might be just a tad more loyalty shown to those that have dedicated their time and effort training them before they whimsically jump ship in most cases for a few quid. Bob
  2. A few sticks suitable for carving up for grabs.Seems a shame to run them in for chip. No shake, can load. Between just over a 1mtr to 650mm Dia and 3mts in length. Can load. Bob
  3. Fit a set of these commercial wheel nut markers. You will see at a glance if something is wrong. They are Pence to buy. Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=155158&stc=1&d=1399099539
  4. I ran one of our trucks in for test today and because of a problem on the A3 the place was empty with no other trucks in there. Lots of testers with nothing to do so I had a very long chat with one of the VOSA guys about this Tractor/Mog/agri vehicle roadworthiness thing. He said that these vehicles are nothing to do with them and the only time they get involved is if they are involved in an accident, outside of this its down to plod. I asked if tractor and trailer had a wheel fall off and ended up on its side in a ditch if it would involve them , he said providing no one was hurt it would be highly unlikely for them to be involved and that again would be a police matter. So it looks like around these parts plod is god . Clever traffic plod would be knowledgeable enough to give a tractor and trailer a good checking over at the roadside. Bob
  5. Beat you to it with £20:001_tt2: Bob
  6. As above but we are with Aviva, they have done us a deal on insurance for things like mewps and bowsers which is very reasonable because of the relatively low annual mileage. You can for peace of mind run any vehicle through vosa and obtain a vehicle certificate of road worthiness. This not an anual test but just a ticket to say its in a roadworthy condition. Bob
  7. I would recommend spending a few quid on upgrading your driving license and buying a ten tonner or bigger which will be half the money for twice the truck. They are not physically bigger and at least you could legally carry what the greedy boards were designed for. Bob
  8. Its now official the powers that be have backed down on the proposed tractor / trailer tests which would have included Mogs and timber trailers. Agricultural vehicles given MOT exemptions in EU Parliament - Farming UK news Bob
  9. Anyone recognise it or have any info ? Bob
  10. The music in my head made me buy this winch the other day. I am going to try and mount it under the bed of the MK bedford. Its 10ton two speed with a gadget that spools the rope on straight. Its got a fair amount of rope on it as well. 11. Here is a gutty job we have just finished, replacing 5000 tree guards. Our labourers were glad to see the back pf this one. Bob And now we have to load up and get rid of this lot
  12. Trim the end out off a barrel and crawl into that Jon Bob
  13. The draw bar trailers are bound up before you get to ninety degrees whereas the artic types can really bend right round. If I can get our artic between two tight gate posts in a residential area the mini artics will find it a breeze. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/arb-trucks/65296-bit-tight.html Bob
  14. Land rover mini artic with a fifth wheel coupling is the ultimate for towing on a car license. 1 ton allowed on the neck and a permissible 3.5 on the trailer wheels , A trailer for timber with small crane and one tipping bin for chip. No snaking about, coupled brakes and perfect road manners. The nuts. Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=154751&stc=1&d=1398703209
  15. Not so good from me. A set of their replacement blades shattered on our danequip , they asked for what was left of them back for inspection and I never heard back. I also asked for a new set for a timberwolf and for a set to be collected for sharpening because I was not about to sharpen them myself , new ones turned up but they never collected the old ones despite several reminders and taking payment. They are off the Christmas card list. Bob
  16. The lightweight series Hiab cranes use a valve block with micro switches on the levers so they can use a pump like yours without cooking it. The pump only runs when you touch a lever. H115002 Micro Switch For Valve Blocks The nose weight of the trailer might be ok if as suggested you mount some of the other kit like pump, battery and hydraulic tank at the back of the trailer to counter balance it. I have seen quite a few trailers like yours with a crane on the neck. One area worth looking at is the capacity of the hitch as they are all rated differently. 17. I can feel a new line of business coming on I suppose a static pit burner could be just a couple of steel pipes entering the bottom of the pit running from a fan sat well away from the from the hole. It does not need to be anything as complex as a mobile unit. Bob
  18. On the same token the only reason these trees came out in the first place is a direct result of the councils planning policies. If the open spaces were developed instead of trying to cram god knows how many houses onto a postage stamp these cases would be history. Its the councils that draw up the boundaries making it very expensive and virtually impossible to meet the house building targets set out. With most councils, parish councils and all the nimby`s that can put the boot in on a development "the answer is always no now what is the question".Take a step back and look at the housing stocks of this country and you will notice that all the decent properties built to date were built prior to the planning acts, they all happen to have big gardens with plenty of recreational space and plenty of vegetation. As said before a lot more goes on in a decent sized garden than any farmers field. So unless we all stop producing children houses will need to be built and all this malarkey will carry on. Bob
  19. This case is a bit different, from what I gather from reading the post there were no TPO`s on the site and there was a bit of a race going on to slap the orders on. I do agree that they should have just got on and felled the trees while they had the chance. Its not all gloom and doom with these developers and clearance work. When these houses get built there will be more going on in the way of flowers, shrubs, trees and habitat than any chemically enhanced farmers field . People in the main love their gardens and stock them well , time will heal Bob
  20. Have you brought any pit burners into the country Justin ? Bob
  21. Its far easier and cheaper to build a pit burner, a bit of tin work and a decent ag grain drier blower , jobs a goodun. The Pit Burner on Vimeo Bob
  22. Often done prior to a construction company/developer ever completing on a land deal so they are not seen as the "bad boys". When the council get wind of the proposed developer buying the land its normally to late. Bob
  23. No the guy was clearing out stuff from behind his shed and this was amongst a load of calor bottles, cupboards and builders props etc. Not from a man thats house is on wheels Bob
  24. Advertised as a "winch thingy" for £20 so it seemed rude not to buy it. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=154353&stc=1&d=1398244624
