  1. According to Rayco there are only two in the whole of europe, they do however keep all the spares for it on the shelf. Bob
  2. Its a bit like that, as long as there is a tooth of sorts on there it will tear up anything. Its direct drive and has a Deutz lorry engine on so it never tires. A typical 2` diameter hardwood stump is gone in about 2 minutes, conifer and the like is seconds. But its massive so no good in a back garden, the lower deck of the truck is 30` long so telehandler and grinder combo must be about 35`. Bob
  3. An old boy that used to buy rings from me for turning used to rub candle wax on both sides so it dried from the outside in if that makes sense. Bob
  4. Nothing fancy about it Stephen its just a brute:thumbup1: It goes behind the mog or telehandler. Its out on monday doing a stump about 8 feet in diameter thats nearly 2` out of the ground and I very much doubt if I will be there an hour.I will try and take a snap of it working. 5. Time to change the bearings on the Rayco , Not nice its all packed with mud and crud. I have been putting it off but its now got to be done, everything on it weighs a ton:thumbdown: Bob
  6. The heating requirements for a modern super insulated home would be minimal. I suppose insulation is the way forward , if there is enough of it just having people in there would almost keep it warm Bob
  7. Thats what I call service, it was here at 8am this morning . I wish the carriers I used were this fast. Bob
  8. He may have been knicked for kerb crawling Bob
  9. Actually everyone on here is right. Many moons ago when men were men and pansy`s were flowers there were quality tool and total rubbish with nothing in between. You either went for quality like snapon, britool ,gedore, facom etc or you risked personal injury undoing a bolt. Chocolate spanners ,sockets and screwdrivers back then from east were just downright dangerous.Old gits like me have collected the stuff we have from necessity and not for any other reason. Fast forward 30 years and the secrets to decent tool making are no longer and the markets are awash with decent quality tooling at very reasonable cost. If I was starting out again I would probably not go with snapon but its what I started with so i keep going with it. Just to prove I am not a complete tool snob I bought one of these Bacho tool kits to keep in the back of the van. Sockets up to 24mm , quarter drive and a set of spanners up to 19mm. been very handy. Bob
  10. The poor sod is probably sat up in the tree filling out the accident report. Might be up there a while yet If British rail get involved he might never come down:thumbdown: Bob
  11. Its always worth phoning the fire brigade to tell them what and when you are burning. It will save them turning up and asking the questions when the local jobsworth/nosy/ nimby makes the totally unnecessary call. They appreciate it. Bob
  12. How much is a 205 ltr barrel of your chain gloop at the moment. We are nearly out. Bob
  13. Thats exactly the same as the one that was stolen.. Bob
  14. I dont know what they are rated at but the tractor has a 1" steel rope on it which has snapped on a few occasions and the C hook has never opened up. As catweazle pointed out they were probably forged out of old truck halfshafts because they made from 35mm ish thick diameter steel. The nearest look alike is in the image below. Anyway I have told my mum so god help the person who nicked it. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=157559&stc=1&d=1401279958
  15. You probably used this one because it was on AJ`s tractor, anyway it is a lot easier to attach a c hook to a bond and winch rope. I will now be fumbling about with those poxy shackles until I can find a replacement Bob
  16. I use snap on stuff because its got a lifetime guarantee which the guys in the van stand by with no exception. I am not saying that its the best but when you buy a 1/2" ratchet for £75 and they then replace the guts for free dozens of times over the next 20 years it makes it a very cheap ratchet. Same for spanners ,the torx, allen, ribe and screw driver bits. they seem expensive but mine have all been replaced dozens of times for nowt. I dont think its a good idea to buy stuff like this on the strap but its good value for money if you can stretch to it. Bob
  17. Some dirty ,stinking, lightfingered, thoughtless. selfish, brain dead moron has stolen the C hook off my winch tractor while parked in the woods in Baughurst near Tadley, hants. Its been with us for over thirty years and from my research cannot be replaced. Gutted. Bob
  18. There used to be a commercial breakers called Bennets in Crowthorne which is only a short trek from here , they always had a shed load of PTO equipment and hydraulics that were taken off airport, council , BT and other utilities vehicles. They never seemed to have a market for it so I used to by the stuff by the pallet load for peanuts. That gearbox in the pic was among the last lot I bought. Bob
  19. I will get some snaps of the damage to our 24" morbark that was crane fed a piece of roadplate:thumbdown: Bob
  20. About 80,000 planted and carried out maintenance on about 40,000 inc watering contracts. Bob
  21. Gray That pto in the pics runs straight off the layshaft so its got a fixed speed and only works with the box in neutral , I have got another one that interrupts the prop to the transfer box that would as you say run the gears. One of the transfer boxes on the 7.5 tonners has a pto flange very similar to the one in the pic facing backwards that was used to power a gully sucker. So there are a few options if you want to power things off the back or front of an RB. Bob
  22. I am using the PTO on the RB to run a chipper. The one I have that came on a gearbox is made by drum, happens to be good for 40hp which is ok for a 6" chipper. The flange size is landrover so that will make an easy to get shaft to the back of the wagon , it will need a few support bearings on the way though. The other good thing about this type of pto is that you can also take off the front at the same time which will give you hydraulics via a diverter for winch and roller feeds. Bob
  23. Aside of the dangers of working on slopes perhaps hire a big saw with a 5` bar and see how you get on. If you get to swing a 5`bar around all day you will sleep well Bob
  24. I dont know if I would ever have 100 percent trust in something that relies on electronics for its ultimate stability. I think I will stick with the old school clunkers we have that have mechanical limitations for reach/height vs counterweight. Bob
  25. Put curly bits in the stack and the haulier is likely to push a sharp stick in your eyeball. Cant think of anything worse:thumbdown: Bob
