  1. I would recommend spending a few quid on upgrading your driving license and buying a ten tonner or bigger which will be half the money for twice the truck. They are not physically bigger and at least you could legally carry what the greedy boards were designed for. Bob

  4. The music in my head made me buy this winch the other day. I am going to try and mount it under the bed of the MK bedford. Its 10ton two speed with a gadget that spools the rope on straight. Its got a fair amount of rope on it as well.   7. The draw bar trailers are bound up before you get to ninety degrees whereas the artic types can really bend right round. Land rover mini artic with a fifth wheel coupling is the ultimate for towing on a car license. 1 ton allowed on the neck and a permissible 3.5 on the trailer wheels , A trailer for timber with small crane and one tipping bin for chip.   9. Not so good from me. A set of their replacement blades shattered on our danequip , they asked for what was left of them back for inspection and I never heard back. I also asked for a new set for a timberwolf and for a set to be collected for sharpening because I was not about to sharpen them myself , new ones turned up but they never collected the old ones despite several reminders and taking payment. They are off the Christmas card list. Bob
  10. The lightweight series Hiab cranes use a valve block with micro switches on the levers so they can use a pump like yours without cooking it. The pump only runs when you touch a lever. H115002 Micro Switch For Valve Blocks The nose weight of the trailer might be ok if as suggested you mount some of the other kit like pump, battery and hydraulic tank at the back of the trailer to counter balance it. I have seen quite a few trailers like yours with a crane on the neck. One area worth looking at is the capacity of the hitch as they are all rated differently.   11. I can feel a new line of business coming on I suppose a static pit burner could be just a couple of steel pipes entering the bottom of the pit running from a fan sat well away from the from the hole. It does not need to be anything as complex as a mobile unit. Bob
  12. On the same token the only reason these trees came out in the first place is a direct result of the councils planning policies. If the open spaces were developed instead of trying to cram god knows how many houses onto a postage stamp these cases would be history. Its the councils that draw up the boundaries making it very expensive and virtually impossible to meet the house building targets set out. With most councils,parish councils and all the nimby`s that can put the boot in on a development "the answer is always no now what is the question".Take a step back and look at the housing stocks of this country and you will notice that all the decent properties built to date were built prior to the planning acts, they all happen to have big gardens with plenty of recreational space and plenty of vegetation.As said before a lot more goes on in a decent sized garden than any farmers field. So unless we all stop producing children houses will need to be built and all this malarkey will carry on. Bob
  13. This case is a bit different, from what I gather from reading the post there were no TPO`s on the site and there was a bit of a race going on to slap the orders on. I do agree that they should have just got on and felled the trees while they had the chance. Its not all gloom and doom with these developers and clearance work. When these houses get built there will be more going on in the way of flowers, shrubs, trees and habitat than any chemically enhanced farmers field . People in the main love their gardens and stock them well , time will heal Bob

  16. Often done prior to a construction company/developer ever completing on a land deal so they are not seen as the "bad boys". When the council get wind of the proposed developer buying the land its normally to late. Bob

  20. I dont think you can judge wear and tear by mileage because of the many variables. A transit that runs around a city might have low miles shown but because of all the gridlocked traffic it may in real terms have done 4 times the running time. The good old hour clock fitted to the mog engines is a better gauge of service intervals and work done. Transit timing chains can need changing at anything between 80-200,000 miles.   21. As above on a few posts junk the DMF when it needs a clutch. Also never use the transit to jumpstart other vehicles because you run the risk of screwing the inj pump. Same applies to the transit , if the battery is flat just charge it up and dont jump start it. Also make sure you keep the diff oil up to the mark , often overlooked and if run low will render and axle scrap. Other than that they are pretty good value for money. Bob
  22. Just done the timing chain on the transit, nothing hard about it and less than a mornings work. As soon as you hear the bag of nails noise on start up its on borrowed time. Look at the shiny section of the chain adjuster, its virtually at the end of its travel and the chain guides are all rutted so engine failure was only a matter of time. Timing cover is bonded to the front of the engine but with a small amount of heat it will let go and you can pull it forward without damaging it. Prevention is better than cure, chain kit and front seal £130 ish. Bob

  24. On the flip side there is nothing worse than arranging work for teams and getting a no show from a member. Completely screws any forward planning. Edit. Nothing wrong with any time out as long as its pre arranged in good time and not a thoughtless last minute thing. Bob
