  3. Hi Bob, It is already registered as a special purpose vehicle (different to Ag) because it has a wood chipper permanently mounted + 3 point linkage + constant 4x4 and 4x4/road tyres etc.. I did get Greg to make sure that the dif ratios would be compatible when diffs locked etc, and he assures me that the AX8 axle off of a S75 will be fine. He also reckons that others have managed to sort the hand brake and change it over to manual linkage etc.. He says he knows others who has done it.. In your pic (hopefully attached) it says "conversion" so maybe boughton converted some?? probably the same axle as I am putting on mine if twin wheel, only I am only gonna use the outer wheel and rate at 6.6 ton.. Thanks for advice about train weight I will ask the DVSA people about that. Also parts, yes very probably!
  4. Thanks Bob, So your two 7.5 ton RB's have identical air breaks as the S75's then? Are they Boughton conversions or did Boughton actually build them to that spec originally (presumably using pretty much S75 components?) I'm only asking because I notice on the photo of the plate you uploaded a few pages back it say's Boughton "Conversion", I'm interested because obviously in a perfect world I would also rob all the air breaking parts of an S75 and convert my RB to Air over hydraulic at some point... So interesting to know if Boughton did a conversion on these or built some original off the shelf 7.5 tonners etc... Greg (dodge50.co.uk) only knows of one person who has done this conversion and reckons it was a pain of a job swapping over the entire breaking system to air.. Nice looking RB by the way! Thanks for the advice, I am paying a lorry garage to change the axle and they do Lorry MOT's so will get them to test the breaking spec once done.. Presumably this is what the tester from DVSA will do to test and then authorise the 'uprating' to 6.6 ton.
  5. Bob, I am in the process of 'uprating' my RB from 5.3 tons to 6.6 tons. I am fitting the rear axle from a Dodge 50 S75 (which had air over hydraulic breaks) and will power these breaks with my current Vacuum over hydraulic breaking system. I have been told that if I then only fit the outer wheel onto this twin wheel axle (ax8) then I can get the truck uprated to 6.6 (because it will be vacuum breaks powering the 7.5 (originally air assisted) axle). I have been told all this by Greg Wells who runs the Dodge 50 parts website etc... Can I just ask, was yours a conversion done by Boughton, and are they running 'air assisted' breaks? or just vacuum over hydraulic with twin wheels fitted? Jim.
  6. Thanks grey Git, I will seriously consider your comments. The Winch has been removed on mine (I need one of those too!) so I am fitting a separate circuit for this.. Will think about oil cooler too.. Thanks!

I hope to buy this 16-20 ton log splitter to run off my RB44, the Ebay seller says that it needs a flow rate of 30 liters per minute and a min PSI of 2300 - 2500. 16 - 20 TON HEAVY DUTY TRACTOR MOUNTED HYDRAULIC LOG SPLITTER | eBay Can anyone tell me if the RB's hydraulics are deffo up to spec for this? I already have a three point linkage on the back of my RB and am adding some extra pipes reach to the rear of the truck so hoping this will just be a case of bolt on, link up and start splitting!!

Great to hear everyones thoughts on pto chippers and the RB's potential for this etc, all I know is that other people say it can be done easy enough off the gearbox to the front and/or back, and the guy who runs the Dodge50.co.uk website who also breaks and sells parts for Dodge 50s and RB's reckons that it would work fine. But like say it's really good to hear everyone elses thought on this esp the people who are doing this already! ;-)

Thanks Billy, yeh you are probably right for most peoples needs, however, aside from the fact that I don't like landys, I also had to factor in that I have to have a lockable 'van' which can double as a chip box to accommodate all my other work needs, + a tool store for when the chip box is in use, so really my only other option was a transit or iveco, hence settling on the RB. I also used to own a Dodge 50 which was the best truck I ever owned, but with this I have the bonus of the potential for Hydrolic pto winch, log splitter etc and gearbox pto chipper, also the three point linkage on the back will be great for me as I can carry a lockable tool store on there too which can carry ride on mowers, strimmers and lots more options. so because of the range of work that I still do it will be an awesome multi tool for me once it's all up and running with far more potential than a boring old landy lol ;-) oh yeh also will be able to uprate it to 7.5 ton MAM at some point too, which will make the payload more like 3 ton so plenty for the 8 cubic meters that the chip box is ;-)
  13. Thanks White noise ;-) Yeh the chipper is only a 5" camon c250 petrol, and is mainly just there to make the vehicle MOT exempt etc, as is the three point linkage on the back. I will use the chipper for small jobs and it can be moved and mounted on the linkage on the back if required, but will mainly use a bigger chipper which can tow behind as normal, and then when I have the money to invest in a bigger chipper, I can get a PTO chipper to run of the gearbox of the truck also tow behind etc...

I thought I read on one of the threads on here that someone had two military RB's in their yard and that one of them (or both) were already 7.5 ton rated oj the plate, maybe he was looking at the train weight? I have been told by Greg Wells from dodge50.co.uk that you can fit the heavier rear axles and springs to an RB (probably using the Renault/Dodge parts as you say) and uprate to 7.5 tons (he actually did it for a tree surgeon with a RB that had a stretched chassis and an integrally mounted chipper and a tipper etc..
  15. Oops missed your post, Yeh the chipper is mainly there to make the truck MOT exempt etc, I will prob use it for small jobs but will get a PTO chipper for every day chipping at some point, and hire a normal 6 inch chipper in the mean time as normal...
