Our local cobbler now deceased was brilliant for this kind of thing, he put me a commando sole on a pair of Daisy Roots walking boots before Vibram was invented. He also hand made a pair of steel toecap boots for a small bloke who worked in the pit, nothing was available in his size at the time. Evo stik impact used according to the instructions is the stuff to use and keep it clamped for a while or overnight to let it cure properly.

Who issues the felling license, would it be the Forestry Commission which will be in the hands of the people who will now own the forest and dictate it's future use ? Private enterprise is self serving, look at public transport, the railways,electricity and gas all have cut what they didn't find profitable and increased their prices so the government has had to introduce bodies to regulate them. Same will happen with any land they can use for building and making more money from than keeping it as forest it's how businesses work. Footpaths can easily be closed or rerouted it's happened round here recently, they were closed as deemed unsafe then never reopened but routed hundreds of yards away and out onto a pavement where it is just walking alongside a road not through a wood any more.

I think he means if you start giving it the beans before it is properly warmed up some parts may wear prematurely. I doubt the new firmware enriches it to run smoother encouraging you to wear the saw out quicker or it will increase the warranty claims and Husqvarna are not going to do that.

Two part epoxy would make a permanent job of it if left to cure properly.

If you privatise anything these days it will get split up into more small packages so more fat cats can make money off it's back and it will be easier for them to get round the rules governing it's use. It ought to be kept in the public domain and run by people genuinely interested in it's future upkeep.

When we had a pond we had a couple of Ghost Koi and they lived 20 years. They were massive when they died, about 6lb each growing to the limit of the pond. We used to give our grandson a stick with a bit of string on and just tie some bread to it and he would pretend to fish while they were eating the bread. A Heron had a few of our goldfish which had reached a decent size, 06.00 is not early enough they will be there at the crack of daylight. Our pond was about 1 metre deep and below about 150cm (called the thermocline) the temperature doesn't change much so the fish just go deeper in winter and just put a ball in to keep a clear bit when it freezes or if you are too late stand a warm pan on to thaw a hole, never break the ice as the shock can damage the fish.

I remember seeing one of a forearm cut that needed about 17 stitches and the saw was not even running, just got the chain dragged across it while climbing. That one looks bad going straight through.

As a lot of people have said, it's a lifestyle choice for the OP and all he asked for was a pair of manmade boots which he has now found. I hope the material is a good leather substitute not like the old Corfam artificial leather shoes that my brother in law used to buy. It was going to be the all singing all dancing no maintenance alternative for footwear but all it really did was make his feet stink really bad.

The area looks pretty well developed already, are the council just trying to stop garden grabbing ? We recently delivered a bike to a house with a Lime tree with a TPO in the front garden. The bloke who lived there had to have his car pressure washed every three days and the front of the house looked like it was covered in glue and dirt stuck to it.

We had some Hawk moth caterpillars last year and they were various colours ranging from pale green to dark brown. They were eating Willow herb so not really a pest.

A chap I worked with was left some land and applied to build a house on it but was refused as the then NCB wanted to outcrop there. He went to his MP who took the case up and he was granted planning permission, built his house then rented land to the NCB.

I had a trailer tent cover made at Specialised Canvas Supplies near Staveley, Derbyshire. £170 with eyelets, shock cord and the buttons to fit to the trailer for the cord to grip onto. It's the same stuff they make tautliner sides from but they have canvas as well. The Silverline type poly canvas is not UV proof and turns into string after a few months, proper PVC can last for decades and it can be repaired if it tears.

It's most likely the wood he's cutting as he finds it all over the place and chucks it in the back of the van. He'll learn to sharpen them quicker anyway

There's a load of pigeons (about 30 of them) on our roof first thing in the morning, b;**dy annoying things When I was a lad 50 years ago my uncle and his friends all used to keep pigeons on the allotment and I used to take his out on the back of my scooter and let them go, they always used to beat me back home.

Thanks, it's on a 14" bar. It looks like I'll just have to tell him to keep a couple of chains ready sharpened. It does leave a nice fine finish but that's not really important on firewood although it might be desirable on fencing work.

Apply for permission to cut it back to your boundary, it looks like it is overhanging and leaning and it will at least pee off the person who is blocking your present application

A friend of mine has bought a MS 170 for domestic use, not what I would have chosen but he's done it so the picco micro chain blunts a bit quick, is there a better choice which will last a bit longer and is a straight swap ?

Mine never needs more than 3 pulls from cold and fast idle once warm it starts every time now I've set it up.

Spot on for rolling round under motors in winter if you are stuck somewhere Ventile is good for water and wind proofing but it is very expensive.
